Jiangcheng City, the seventh satellite city.
A faint sobbing sound echoed from a quiet little building in the suburbs. The sky was already dark, and the surrounding trees created an eerie atmosphere.
With a sputtering sound, a white electric scooter pulled up downstairs and parked neatly in an empty parking space. The young man on the scooter got off, took off his helmet, and tossed his hair.
He had short, choppy hair, with bangs falling between his arched eyebrows, which couldn't hide his high brows and made his eyes appear deep-set and star-like. In addition, his nose was straight and his features were smooth, with no flaws whatsoever.
If a person is handsome and has attained a certain level of cultivation, then that person is at least at the Great Perfection of the Yanzu Realm.
The young man looked up and saw a middle-aged man in a suit waiting downstairs. He raised his hand and greeted him, "Hello, boss. I am Yue Wen, the manager of 'Yue's Cultivation Agency'."
"Master Yue... Master Yue."
The middle-aged man was not tall, with a buzz cut and a receding hairline. His suit was wrinkled inside and out, and his face bore the weariness typical of cattle and horses.
After greeting the young man, he asked with a hint of suspicion, "You think you can handle evil spirits all by yourself?"
"Just call me Xiao Yue," the young man named Yue Wen said with a smile. "Our firm may charge low fees, but we are absolutely reliable. You can rest assured if you leave it to me."
"That's good." The middle-aged man nodded, but he was still a little hesitant.
It's no wonder he was worried, since the "Yue Family Cultivation Agency" charged much less than other Qi Refining organizations—he only tried calling after seeing a small advertisement on a telephone pole.
The one sent was an excessively handsome young man—not the kind of appearance that would convince an employer at first glance.
However, Yue Wen seemed quite confident. He casually walked downstairs and said, "I didn't explain things clearly over the phone. Please give me a more detailed explanation of the situation."
"Uh, okay." The middle-aged man followed behind him, cautiously glanced upstairs, and introduced himself: "My surname is Chen, and I am the real estate manager of '69.com'."
“This building is a new property that our company has acquired. Companies don’t usually acquire properties on their own, since there are risks involved. But the previous owner was eager to sell and offered a very low price, so I suggested that the company buy it… thinking that we could renovate it and then sell it slowly, which would yield much higher profits.”
"I didn't expect to discover something was wrong when we started renovations. This building is haunted at night! I always came to see the apartment during the day before, and I never noticed this." Manager Chen looked distressed. "My boss is putting pressure on me. If I don't resolve this within a week, I'll be fired."
Yue Wen nodded. No wonder he had come to him.
It seems the leadership didn't allocate much of a budget.
The "Yue Family Cultivation Agency" is unknown in Jiangcheng City, but it is cheap, making it the first choice for working people.
"The workers didn't get a clear look at the evil spirit; they only knew it appeared and disappeared without a trace, suddenly attacking people. If there hadn't been so many people around, something terrible might have happened. But because there haven't been any injuries or fatalities yet, our case is already in the queue at the traffic management bureau, and it might take a month for them to process it..."
“After all, this place is almost in the wilderness, and it's not a major mysterious case. The Super Management Bureau is very busy, so it's bound to be on the back of the list.” Yue Wen nodded, then asked, “Have you visited the surrounding neighbors?”
Manager Chen pointed to the distance, "Before buying the property, we would normally visit the neighbors to check if there were any unusual circumstances. However, on the one hand, the residents here are all far away, and the neighbors don't know much about it; on the other hand, we later learned that the original owner had given some fruit to the nearby neighbors in advance, asking them not to say anything bad about it."
"So it's the fruit-delivery technique?" Yue Wen smiled.
“But since none of the neighbors know anything about it, it means the evil spirit is staying in the house quite peacefully. It doesn’t seem like a demon; it might be a nightmare.” He turned his head and said, “We have to go in and take a look.”
"Do I want to go in too?" Manager Chen was startled.
……
"I need to close the doors and windows tightly later, otherwise I won't be able to keep an eye on you if you stay outside," Yue Wen said.
"Well..." Manager Chen stood at attention for a moment, then said weakly, "I'll go in with you."
It was already dark, and it was quite eerie to see someone standing downstairs all by themselves.
Who knows if evil spirits might escape outside?
He stepped forward, unlocked the door with his key, and then immediately slipped behind Yue Wen.
Yue Wen strode in without a care in the world, and looked around at the furnishings. They were all solid wood furniture and carved decorations, giving off the vibe of a nouveau riche family from twenty years ago.
"Close the door and don't turn on the lights, or you'll startle it," Yue Wen said.
Manager Chen leaned against the wall and whispered, "How do you find evil spirits in the dark?"
Driven by human instinct, he felt safer when the lights were on.
"Don't worry," Yue Wen said, taking out a pair of sunglasses from his pocket and putting them on.
Manager Chen was taken aback. The room was already dark, and this kid was wearing sunglasses.
Are you a rapper?
"These glasses look like sunglasses, but they're actually a demon-revealing mirror," Yue Wen explained. "In the darkness, they can detect the aura of evil spirits, see through their origins, and expose them." Manager Chen's eyes immediately turned to awe upon hearing that it was a magical artifact.
The windows in the house were covered with thick curtains, and once the door was closed, there was absolutely no light; it was pitch black and silent.
After Yue Wen put on the "demon-revealing mirror," fog began to rise from the entire first-floor lobby in his field of vision. He slowly walked deeper into the building, and everywhere he looked, there was a thick, gray fog-like gas.
Manager Chen stood at the doorway, hesitant to step forward. He couldn't see the surrounding gray mist, and asked in alarm, "Where is the evil spirit?"
"I don't know yet," Yue Wen shook his head and said, "This is a nightmare with strong spiritual power, and its yin energy is everywhere."
"What should we do then?" Manager Chen asked in a panic.
"Don't worry." Yue Wen raised his left hand, revealing a watch on his wrist. "What looks like a watch is actually a spirit-finger needle that can track spiritual fluctuations. As long as that nightmare is active in the house, I can pinpoint its location!"
As he spoke, he seemed to activate the watch, and a thin layer of light appeared on its surface. Amidst the hazy light, the hands spun rapidly.
Whoosh whoosh—
After spinning a few times, the pointer pointed to the stairwell, then quickly moved towards the main entrance.
"Do you know the location of the evil spirit?" Manager Chen asked in a trembling voice.
"I understand." Yue Wen glanced at him and replied, "Behind you."
"Huh?" Manager Chen was taken aback.
Immediately, a dark shadow suddenly emerged from beside him, instantly extending several tentacle-like things that gripped Manager Chen's body and neck.
Bang!
Suddenly, his throat was gripped, and he was lifted into the air. Suffocating, his limbs began to struggle wildly, and his right hand flailed at Yue Wen, crying out, "Help...help me..."
"Heh, don't worry." Yue Wen smiled wickedly, revealing the silver bracelet on his right hand, and said, "What looks like a bracelet is actually a flying sword. It can slay demons and monsters as easily as cutting melons and vegetables. Now that this evil spirit has revealed its true form, it can't escape."
"You..." Manager Chen's veins bulged, and he uttered a few words from his throat, "Hurry up... fuck... be quick."
"With sword heart as the guide, the spirit commands the nine heavens!"
Yue Wen pointed his right hand forward, and sure enough, the bracelet turned into a streak of silver light and shot away into the sky!
laugh--
Although the hall was spacious, it was only a fleeting moment for the extremely fast sword light. The dark figure that was controlling Manager Chen didn't even have time to react before being pierced by the sharp light.
"Ah—" it howled miserably, and the inky black light around it exploded, vaguely revealing a tree shadow and spreading out a hundred or so vines.
The main body appeared briefly before exploding.
boom!
"It turns out to be a century-old tree. It must have been felled just as it was about to take human form, when construction started on this site. No wonder it harbors such deep resentment; its remaining spiritual energy could transform into such a powerful nightmare."
Yue Wen saw through the origin of this evil spirit and said leisurely.
Manager Chen fell to the ground with a thud, landing face down, and weakly stretched out one hand, saying, "Help me... call... an ambulance."
"Don't worry." Yue Wen stepped forward, picked him up, and walked out the door to his electric scooter.
"What looks like an electric car is actually made from the skeleton of a spirit beast, the White Dragon Steed. When it's running at full speed, it's incredibly fast. It won't take more than five minutes to get you to the nearest hospital."
"Even if it's too late, you can still rest assured."
"I know a good funeral supplies store. They offer high-quality products at reasonable prices and can guarantee to provide you with a complete one-stop service."
A new book is out!
The six-month holiday has passed in the blink of an eye. Looking back on this period, it feels like half a year has gone by.
Every time I start writing a book, I feel nervous, just like when I'm writing my first book, not knowing what kind of experience it will be like.
If you enjoy this story, you're my brothers and sisters; if you spend a penny, you're my bread and butter; if you can contribute some reading data every day, you're practically my grandparents.
(These three are not subordinate to each other; we will discuss each one separately.)
(rigorous.)
Hey.
I'm kowtowing to everyone.
