Chapter 65 The Basilisk is Dead
Chapter 65 The Basilisk is Dead
"Ho-ho-ho-ho-"
Harry's heavy breathing echoed in the spacious, quiet basement.
He subconsciously looked down at his bare feet—the flesh there was completely rotten, and the white bone fragments were vaguely visible.
Fortunately, he was not in pain at this time—his soles and ten toes had lost all feeling.
But he still tried to control his legs, struggling to move his feet forward to Livy's statue.
After confirming that it was intact, a slit appeared at the corner of his mouth, and the ferocity he had shown in his previous battle with the basilisk was gone; a pure smile appeared on his blood-stained face.
Harry casually tossed the bloodstained sword aside, picked up his wand again, and cast a levitation charm on the statue of Levy—and with that one strike, he felt his spell was different.
Even though he was so exhausted that he had no thoughts when he used the spell, the magic seemed to sense his emotions. Instead of rising stiffly and slowly as before, it lifted Professor Levi's statue quickly and steadily, like a pilgrim.
There was no sign of it floating; it simply remained stable in the air in the most balanced posture.
Those wrist movements that Hermione used to have to correct repeatedly now naturally blended into the flow of magic.
At this moment, Harry had no interest in exploring these things—after witnessing Levi's power in the face of the Basilisk and then following in his footsteps to kill it, he felt his heart suddenly harden considerably.
This is a good thing; he should have matured much earlier.
The thick stench of blood filled the Chamber of Secrets. Harry's nostrils flared, and he remained silent.
He tucked his wand into his waistband, slowly crouched down, and solemnly lifted the much lighter professor statue with both hands.
He ignored the Sorting Hat, the enormous basilisk corpse behind him, the sword that could cut through Professor Levi's A-level defense, and even his own invisibility cloak.
Harry walked out step by step.
He felt drowsy.
A sudden, intense ringing in his ears broke free of his control, like hundreds of golden thieves rampaging through his mind.
Or perhaps they were already there, but he just hadn't heard them before.
Harry resisted the urge to shake his head—everything around him seemed to be spinning, and he was afraid that if he shook his head, he would fall over.
But at this moment, he still had one most important thing to do and couldn't just collapse like this.
"Da da--"
The echoes of Harry's footsteps rang out as he moved.
The dark secret room, instead of becoming pitch black in his eyes, gradually became clearer.
Harry returned to the solid wall and uttered a soft remark.
"(Open)"
The two intertwined snakes began to move again, slowly sliding to either side—this time, Harry watched them without feeling any emotion.
Just then, sporadic sounds came from the other side of the wall.
Harry looked up, as if struck by a thought, and gazed at the slowly opening giant wall.
"Harry?"
"Potter?!"
"Child, what happened here?"
On the opposite side of the wall stood three professors familiar to Harry—Professor McGonagall, with a serious expression, at the front, followed by Professors Snape and Flitwick standing to her left and right.
Their faces were filled with shock as they looked at Harry, who was covered in blood.
Harry, hugging the Levi statue, was about to speak when Snape's voice beat him to it. "Levi—!"
"He's been petrified?"
Harry met Snape's gaze and saw the most disgusted expression Snape had ever shown him on the other's face.
"You idiot, explain what happened here right now!"
"Give him to me!"
As he spoke, Snape stepped forward to take the statue of Levi, but Harry followed his movement and took a step back, stubbornly holding it in his own hands.
Snape's lips began to twitch.
Judging from his expression, if there weren't other professors present, he would have loved to pour poison down Harry's throat right then and there.
But now Harry is not afraid of him at all.
He stared bravely at Snape with wide eyes, his bright green pupils appearing angry yet resolute against the backdrop of dried black blood.
Looking at him like that, Snape subconsciously thought of Harry's mother. Lily had looked at him like that after he angrily uttered those words he would regret for the rest of his life.
It was like being doused with a bucket of glacial water from head to toe.
Snape's anger vanished instantly, and he even felt a little apprehensive.
"Harry, what happened here?"
Professor McGonagall was already unhappy with his rude treatment of the students, but she didn't interrupt because of the tense situation.
Seeing Snape suddenly become dejected, Harry immediately took the initiative and walked further to Harry.
Her gaze fell on the petrified Li Wei, her brows furrowing slightly to conceal the fleeting panic in her eyes—even someone as strong as Li Wei had been defeated by the Basilisk. With Dumbledore absent, only they could protect the students' safety!
"Professor McGonagall."
Harry looked at the strict yet kind vice-principal and regained some of his composure.
He decided to say the most important thing first.
"Don't worry, the basilisk is dead, it's alright."
Harry's voice was exceptionally clear in the quiet corridor, but the professors' expressions seemed frozen, as if they hadn't heard him clearly.
The air seemed to freeze in that instant.
The next moment, the three of them gasped simultaneously, their expressions varying greatly.
Professor McGonagall felt relieved, her face even appearing somewhat weak—in fact, she had already smelled the stench of blood after the wall opened, though she hadn't been sure.
A flicker of undisguised shock and disbelief crossed Snape's face, but it was quickly replaced by disgust—he felt he had guessed the truth.
It's nothing more than the story of Li Wei discovering the secret chamber and deciding to defeat the basilisk alone, only to have this foolish boy rashly join in, resulting in Li Wei being petrified while trying to protect him—but when did Li Wei become someone who would sacrifice himself for others?
Snape's gaze went over Harry's shoulder and toward the Chamber of Secrets behind him.
Has Li Wei really changed? Why?
First it was because of Dumbledore, and now it's because of this mediocre, stupid kid?
Merlin, my child, are you alright?
Professor Flitwick sighed with pity—he noticed Harry's foot, which was almost half-separated from its flesh.
He walked quickly to Harry, looked up at the student covered in blood, and waved his little hand, seemingly wanting to check Harry's injuries, but not daring to touch him rashly.
Professor McGonagall and Snape then noticed the serious injury to Harry's foot, and their faces showed surprise again—they had been so focused on the petrified Levi that they hadn't noticed how bad Harry's condition was!
"We'll talk about other things later. You need to get to Mrs. Pomfrey right now!"
"Do not--"
Harry's fingers, cradling Levi's body, tightened slightly.
"I want to hand over the professor's body to Joey myself, and I'm not going anywhere until I do."
