Chapter 55 Long Time No See, Your Majesty
Rean shifted his body and leaned against the damp wall, looking at the handsome young man with soft blond hair who was locked up with him.
He remembered that the man's name was Sothos, and he seemed to be a nobleman, but his family estate had been burned down, his parents had died, and he had been sent to the church to fend for himself by indifferent relatives.
Sothos also had several bruises on his face, and his mouth was swollen.
"Why did you help me?" Rean asked.
“Chivalry,” Sothos said, tilting his head back.
"Then you're someone of importance."
“Hey, actually I wanted to go and deliver the message from the beginning, but I was afraid you would get killed along the way, so I had no choice but to lend a hand,” Sothos said, shaking his head.
“Even if I’m fragile, I wouldn’t be beaten to death by a little kid,” Rean muttered.
"She's quite stubborn."
The two looked at each other and chuckled.
“Actually, there’s one more thing,” Sothos suddenly raised his head, his pale blue eyes staring unblinkingly at him.
"I think you're no ordinary person. Out of so many people, you were the one who made a move. You also have a chivalrous spirit."
"Thank you for the compliment. I've always felt that when we're eating, we should kick that fat guy off the top table and sit on him instead." Rean nodded.
“That’s not what I meant,” Sothos said, his expression turning serious.
"I have something to tell you. I've always wanted to run away, but I'm missing a companion. Do you want to run away with me?"
"Run? Run where?" Rean asked. "There's fighting everywhere, and bandits everywhere. If we're this big, we'll die on the roadside after only a few steps."
“I have an uncle in Red Orchid City who is the lord’s quartermaster. We can go there and ask him to take us in and do odd jobs for us,” Sothos said.
“Isn’t it the same as here?” Rean said.
"So you're content to stay here for the rest of your life? At least if we leave here, we'll have a way out in the future. It's better to fight our way out before we die than to stay here and be beaten to death by the nuns or starve to death someday." Sothos stared intently at him.
Rean opened his mouth, looked at him, and finally said, "How do I know if you're trying to trick me into going there to sell me?"
"Huh? Are you alright? I went through all this trouble to sell this to you and you only got a few copper coins?" Sothos covered his head and lay on the ground.
“Just kidding.” Rean chuckled and shrugged.
Sothos glanced at him and said, "So, are you going to run or not?"
"When?"
“Let’s prepare more rations next month,” Sothos said.
Rean thought for a moment, then nodded and said, "Okay, but before that, I have to do something."
"doing what?"
“Let’s teach that fat nun a lesson.” Rean chuckled and held out a hand to Sothos. “Would you like to help me?”
Sothos looked at him, a smirk playing on his lips, and reached out to shake his hand: "With pleasure."
“By the way, I still don’t know your name?” Sothos asked.
“Rean, Rean Tandin, I grew up without parents, and I chose this name myself,” Rean said.
“Rean Tandin, Rean, what a strange name,” Sothos muttered.
He smiled slightly at Rean and squeezed his hand firmly:
"Then, Rean, we'll be comrades from now on."
"No, you mean you want to saw through the latrine planks so she falls down when she sits on them? You're really ruthless."
"Rean! Look! Once we get past this mountain, we'll reach Red Orchid City! We've finally arrived!" "Wake up, buddy, we have over a hundred sets of armor to farm today."
"Hey bro, got your bounty tonight? Want to grab a drink at the tavern?"
"Seriously, boss? You really want to buy all this top-of-the-line equipment? We'll end up losing money after this job!"
"My lord, I've said it so many times, it's simply unrealistic to expect every soldier to receive their full monthly pay. And what about your so-called Eight Military Disciplines? Do you really intend to implement such a thing in the army?"
"Your Majesty, if we want to ensure our logistical supply, we must take control of the three southern cities. We absolutely cannot let them fall into enemy hands first. What do you mean you have no objections? Can't you at least argue with me?"
"Your Majesty, the entire army is assembled and awaits your inspection."
"Your Majesty, I swear to defend this land to the death, and await your rebirth ten years from now."
The white light before Caesar filled his entire vision, and flashbacks flickered before his eyes, eventually pulling his memories back.
A familiar, blond figure appeared before him. The man was in his thirties, with a youthful spirit on his face, just like Sothos when they first possessed their own city and embarked on the road to domination, making grand pronouncements.
"Sothos" Caesar was momentarily dazed, unable to distinguish whether it was an image of Sothos or the real him standing there.
"It's been a long time, Your Majesty." Sothos opened his pale blue eyes and looked at him.
After staring at Caesar for several seconds, Sothos's lips twitched twice, and then he couldn't hold back and burst into laughter in front of him, clutching his stomach.
"Haha, no, not you, you really have turned into a little devil! Haha. Oh my god, you've become so cute and lively, you, you don't tell me you've become a baby all over again?"
Caesar stared at the guy who couldn't stop laughing, all the emotion he had felt earlier vanished. His eyes twitched, and he forced out a sound through clenched teeth:
"Laugh, laugh, laugh until you laugh yourself to death!"
"Hey, sorry, I really am dead right now. The one talking to you is just a wisp of my consciousness." Sothos shrugged, then reached out and ruffled his head vigorously, messing up his black hair.
"But you didn't expect it, did you! I'll run into you even after I'm dead!"
"Hey, did you leave this thing behind just to mess with me?" Caesar said, twitching his eye.
“Of course not, of course it’s still to give our Emperor an explanation.” Sothos released him and said with a smile.
"Then hurry up, say what you have to say."
Sothos was about to say something when he waved to him, gesturing for him to move over.
"Hey, make some room for me. I've never sat on your throne before. I'll have to enjoy it today."
"Tsk."
Caesar moved aside to let Sothos sit down, while he himself sat on the armrest.
Sothos leaned back on his throne, took a deep breath, and exclaimed, "We were standing down here before, but it's a completely different view from up here! Now I know why you were so smug."
"Should I go down and kowtow to you?" Caesar said.
“Okay, it would be even better if there were some lines,” Sothos said smugly.
Seeing Caesar's look, he smiled and shrugged: "Just kidding."
He looked around the magnificent hall and asked, "How many years have passed outside now?"
“Over six hundred years,” Caesar said, “a lot has happened in those six hundred years.”
“Six hundred years,” Sothos nodded, “a little earlier than I initially expected.”
"So what exactly happened back then? What went wrong with the Cocoon of Origin that made it take so long for me to be resurrected?" Caesar couldn't help but ask.
Sothos leaned back on his throne, his gaze lowered, and he said in a low voice:
"In reality, the Cocoon of Origin cannot revive you at all; it was a mistake from the very beginning."
