Chapter 52 Chlorin
Chapter 52 Chlorin
Klorin joined the Formless Heavenly Domain six months ago through Peyton's introduction.
As a descendant of Grand Marshal Galicia, Klorin is now the deputy director of the Third Directorate of the "Grey Forest," a special intelligence agency in Surna, with the rank of lieutenant colonel.
This suited Caesar's needs perfectly. Although the Peyton family was wealthy, few of its members worked in government agencies, so they had very little access to high-level classified information. Therefore, Caesar chose to contact Clorin in the hope of obtaining more classified information from him.
After Peyton secretly sent someone to contact him, he obtained a small amount of Clorin's blood through the medical examination department. Caesar thus confirmed that Galicia had also passed on his right to inherit the mantle to his descendants, and the heir to this day is Clorin.
Compared to Peyton's heartfelt loyalty to the Empire, Clorin's loyalty was more based on Caesar's identity as a "resurrected ancient emperor." Someone of his high position would surely not refuse to establish a connection with a legendary emperor who was about to ascend to godhood.
During Caesar's previous interactions with him, Clorin also acted with great caution.
He had always kept this family tradition his biggest secret, not even telling his wife and children. Now that this tradition has been acknowledged, he is even more cautious and avoids showing any abnormality in his work or life.
He knew this was a once-in-a-lifetime turning point in his life, so he was extremely loyal and devoted to Caesar.
Three months ago, an earthquake struck the Sinama Mountains, exposing the entrance to a tomb that is over 600 years old. Archaeologists speculate that the tomb's owner was Elias Sot, one of the seven elders of the Fata of the Eldaria Empire.
This elder was in charge of the emperor's sacrificial rites during the reign of Rean II, but disappeared after the empire's collapse in the Shattered Moon Incident. It is rumored that he was instructed by Rean II to accomplish something.
Elias is widely regarded as a key figure in unraveling the truth of the Shattered Moon incident, and the discovery of his tomb means that this historical mystery will soon be solved.
Moreover, as an elder of the Fata, Elias would certainly possess a great deal of magical heritage. This magical heritage from before the Great Destruction is extremely valuable and could even change the level of a nation's power.
However, when archaeologists attempted to explore the tomb, they discovered it was sealed by a high-level protective spell. Furthermore, breaking the seal involved ancient Hermog script, a long-lost cryptic language known to virtually no one today.
Another point is that the Sinaman Mountains, where the mausoleum is located, are situated at 67 degrees latitude, which is an internationally shared area. This means that it is not owned by any single country. Whoever breaks the seal first will own the ancient heritage contained within the mausoleum.
Upon receiving this news, Clorin immediately thought of Rean, the ancient emperor, and requested an audience, handing over the cryptic text of the tomb's spell to Caesar.
As luck would have it, Caesar learned of the news from the newspaper and was just wondering how to get his hands on the cipher, when Clorin delivered it to him.
He knew that being able to decipher Hermogorin was an essential skill for becoming a great hero-level sorcerer back in the day, so he couldn't possibly be unaware of it.
He spent a day deciphering the seal that had troubled the entire magical world for months and handed it over to Chlorin.
Clorin used some means to hand over the deciphered cipher, which brought him immense honor and prestige.
Upon returning to the Realm of No Form, he bowed to the emperor with genuine loyalty, while also hinting at whether he needed to pay a price for Caesar.
In his current identity, Caesar couldn't make any material demands. He only asked that after breaking the seal, he immediately hand over the coordinates of the tomb and collect more research data on modern magical theories. Chlorin readily agreed. But a problem arose at this point: when the sorcerers of Surna were breaking the seal, they discovered that to unlock it, they needed a person of the Moonlight physique as the key.
The so-called Moonlight Body refers to an individual who has no magic power and cannot become a sorcerer, but can bear a large amount of magical elements.
In the past, people with this constitution were often used as vessels for certain rituals, and were more valuable than hero-level sorcerers.
However, nowadays, there are very few sorcerers, let alone Moonlight Bodies; it's estimated that you couldn't find one in the whole world.
But after a large-scale investigation, Surna still found one.
That is Uriel, one of the leaders of the Freedom Front.
The Freedom Front has a bad reputation internationally because they are known as anarchists.
However, in order to break the seal on the tomb, Surna secretly contacted Uriel, who was in Fein, and tricked him into going to Surna to cooperate with the operation.
This matter was handled by an agent from the Third Directorate of Klorin, who also had full authority over the operation and was responsible for liaising with Uriel.
However, Clorin still didn't understand Uriel enough. With such ideas, how could he possibly cooperate with Surna?
When he was taken to the church in Stream Town, Oran Kingdom by Agent Sulna "The Lampman" to be escorted back home, he secretly revealed his location to the outside world, intending to incite conflict between Sulna and Fein, so that they would fight to the death.
However, he also completely underestimated Fein's methods.
The Kingdom of Fein already knew that Surna was about to obtain the key to unlock the tomb's seal and was searching for him with all its might. When they learned of the location, they were unaware of Uriel's scheme; they only knew that Surna was about to obtain the key. By then, it was too late to send people to stop him.
Therefore, they chose a more efficient processing method.
Even if it results in heavy civilian casualties, the deaths of so many innocent people, and public condemnation, it cannot be surpassed by Surna in the field of magic.
"Uriel's body was not found at the explosion site. We speculate that he did not die, but escaped in the chaos. Now the Grey Forest has sent more people to search for his whereabouts."
"This time it was an intelligence failure on our part, and we have failed Your Majesty. I beg Your Majesty to give me another chance, and I will certainly make amends for my sins." Clorin's voice was squeezed out with some difficulty.
From the moment he first met the emperor, he understood that although the other party did not seem to exist in the real world, he must have some way of knowing what was happening in reality, and any deception or concealment would be futile.
