Chapter 21 Something happened! ?
After briefly understanding the situation, the medical team gave Su Jierui a physical examination.
Knowing the chances were slim, director Sean Cable still held onto a sliver of hope. While the three medical advisors were meeting, he lowered his voice and asked:
"How is he? Is there anything wrong with his health? My God, we've been staying for far too long this time. We have to book plane tickets and bring our family to Yellowknife to spend the New Year. Fortunately, we can earn some overtime pay from the company during the holiday."
A medical consultant said speechlessly:
“Jerry’s weight has not only not decreased, but has actually increased by more than two pounds. It seems that the fish in Great Slave Lake are really plump.”
"...Living in this godforsaken place, how could my weight still bounce back?"
Director Sean Cable was speechless.
Another doctor, with gray hair and a full beard, took off his fogged-up glasses, wiped them, and added:
“I used to think Roland had a great chance of winning, but now that Jerry has more food, his advantage is much greater. Not only physically, but also mentally. It’s hard to imagine that Jerry didn’t roast the rabbit but instead kept it as a pet.”
Director Sean Cable nodded and said:
"I think so too. You know, he's still a master's student and lacks wilderness survival experience. I never thought he could persevere this long. The ratings for this season are sure to be excellent..."
The group was still discussing.
suddenly.
A cell phone rang from the security advisor's backpack—or rather, a satellite phone!?
When the sound came, everyone was stunned.
This satellite phone was specially prepared for the contestants. Once a contestant dialed the phone, it meant that they had decided to withdraw from the competition, leaving them no chance to back out.
Only two players remain for this season.
At that moment, Su Jerry was standing right in front of everyone, even taking out the little rabbits living in the rabbit hutch and showing them off to the camera, so the satellite phone call definitely wasn't made by him.
So the only remaining contestant can only be... Roland!?
Director Sean Cable was stunned, completely bewildered, and said in a blank tone:
"What's going on? Am I starting to get Alzheimer's and lose my memory? Didn't we just come from Roland's camp?"
A medical consultant also said:
"Yes, he even said that he wouldn't withdraw from the competition even if spring came. Why did he suddenly call and give up?"
After a brief period of confusion.
Director Sean Cable told the show's safety consultant to answer the phone immediately!
When the security consultant named Bert Rick answered the phone, all he heard was a painful scream from the other end, and there was also the sound of something falling and a pot being overturned!
Everyone's hearts skipped a beat.
"Something seems to have happened!? Quick, quick!! We need to get back right now!!!"
Director Sean Cable shouted in a panic.
During each season's filming, the production team receives many calls from contestants requesting to withdraw from the competition, but this is the first time such an emergency has occurred.
They were more than ten meters apart. Just now, the group had been discussing things away from Su Jerry, but now they hurriedly called the helicopter pilot and left Su Jerry's camp together.
Su Jerry was left completely bewildered, having no idea what had happened.
But he had just seen the security advisor pull a satellite phone out of his backpack and heard director Sean Cable shouting, and he had a vague premonition that this might be... a good thing for him?
……
Time goes back half an hour.
After the crew left Roland's camp, Roland was in a daze. He subconsciously clenched his teeth, and then his bad tooth started to hurt terribly.
The intense pain suddenly ignited a fire of rage in this tough guy who was a hunter's guide.
After enduring so many days, I really couldn't take it anymore. It was seriously affecting my eating, sleeping, and mental state. If I wanted to persevere and win the competition, I had to get rid of the bad tooth problem.
Roland hurried back to the camp, ready to do something he had thought about hundreds of times but had never done.
—Pull out this damn bad tooth! Living in the wilderness, the tools at hand are extremely limited, so Roland had prepared in advance a sturdy wooden stick of moderate thickness, plus stones he had picked up from the lakeside.
He took out a sealed and clean white gauze pad from the first aid kit provided by the program team, took several deep breaths, and prepared himself mentally.
Then, Roland took the flat end of the stick and pressed it against the root of his damaged molar, while using his other hand to strike the top of the stick heavily with a stone.
The excruciating pain caused the veins on Roland's face and neck to bulge! He couldn't help but let out a scream!
But he didn't stop, tapping it several times until he found the bad tooth was loose.
It had been a full 100 days, and they still hadn't won the game. Roland was furious, but he hadn't completely lost his temper.
He understood that if the damage to the tooth was too great, leading to excessive blood loss, or if the tooth root broke into the flesh, it could easily cause infection and inflammation, making the situation even more difficult.
Therefore, Roland's plan from the beginning was to first loosen the bad tooth, and then gradually remove it from his alveolar bone and gums by shaking it by hand, in order to reduce damage and lower the risk.
Before this, he had even considered using a red-hot steel wire to break the nerve in the tooth, but the risk was too great, so he ultimately chose to have the tooth extracted.
After experiencing excruciating pain, Roland's mouth was full of blood. He quickly drank some warm water to rinse his mouth. Fortunately, the bad tooth finally loosened, which brought a smile to his face. He even had the mood to show it to the moving camera.
After a short rest, Roland pressed on, putting his clean fingers into his mouth and wiggling the loose, bad tooth.
His teeth were loosening more and more, and despite the excruciating pain, the tough guy endured it.
Up until now, in his view, everything was proceeding smoothly and according to plan, and was developing in a direction favorable to Roland.
However, sometimes, accidents happen just like that.
The moment the tooth was pulled out, probably due to the pain and surprise that distracted him, coupled with the fact that the blood was particularly slippery, Roland's fingers slipped and he failed to hold onto the bad tooth that had already been pulled out. Then the tooth went down and got stuck in his throat!
He had clearly considered tying the bad tooth with fishing line beforehand, but felt it was unnecessary.
The teeth were so hard that they got stuck in Roland's throat, and with his uncontrollable, violent coughing, they went further down and blocked his trachea!
For a moment, Roland tried to use the Heimlich maneuver to save himself, slamming his chest against the edge of the wooden bed, but it didn't work.
In the midst of the panic, this tough guy forced himself to calm down. Between saving his life and the reward, he decisively chose the former, and without hesitation, he lay down on the bed, picked up the satellite phone, and dialed the number.
I'm unable to speak anymore.
Fortunately, he was already missing part of his bad tooth, so his trachea was not completely blocked.
As long as you lie face down on the bed, keeping your neck suspended in the air, leaving some space between your teeth and trachea, you can still breathe slowly.
Upon hearing the voice coming from the satellite phone, the only thing Roland could do was reach out and knock over the iron pot, deliberately making some noise to let the production crew know that there was an accident on his end, rather than a mistaken call.
While there was no immediate danger to his life, the thought that he had missed out on a million-dollar prize due to his carelessness filled Roland with despair.
In this life-or-death emergency, he absolutely hated the bad tooth in his mouth!
Now I finally understand just how important the regular dental checkups my dentist mentioned really are.
Roland never imagined that he would be forced to end this grueling 100-day competition prematurely in such an absurd and bizarre way.
This might have been his only chance to defy fate in his life, but he ultimately squandered it with his own hands.
But soon, Roland stopped thinking about the prize money.
After all, no matter how much money you have, you need to be alive to spend it. Right now, he only hopes to get help in time and survive...
