Chapter 43 New Gun Seminar
Chapter 43 New Gun Seminar
Chen Chang spent four whole days painting this picture in his cave dwelling.
The most time-consuming part was the new rifle he designed based on the MAS36 rifle.
In this process, simply replacing the barrel is not enough.
First, he has to consider the weight of the entire gun.
This is the rifle he designed.
Without affecting performance and safety, and without significantly increasing processing difficulty.
The entire gun was controlled to weigh less than four kilograms.
Although his gun was 70mm longer than the Type 24 rifle, the overall weight of the gun was basically the same as that of the Type 24.
Secondly, there's the design of the center of gravity.
Because the new gun uses a tapered barrel, it greatly reduces the gun's weight.
It also shifted the center of gravity of the entire gun significantly backward.
In this way, when soldiers move quickly while holding their rifles, the rifles won't feel uncomfortable due to an unstable center of gravity.
Moreover, when shooting from a standing or kneeling position, because the center of gravity is shifted backward, the center point of gravity is exactly at the midpoint of the three positions: the shoulder, the trigger, and the left hand supporting the gun.
That is, a little in front of the trigger guard.
However, the use of a tapered barrel makes the front of the gun lighter.
When a rifle fires a bullet, it will bounce upwards because the muzzle is relatively light.
Therefore, Chen Changzai made an upper slanted cut at the muzzle of the gun.
The gun muzzle cut out like this, viewed from the side, looks like a tube that has been cut off at a 45-degree angle.
This is the simplest muzzle suppressor.
It is the moment when the high-pressure burning air generated by the propellant of the bullet bursts out of the barrel.
Change the direction of the gas injection to make more gas move upwards.
This gives the muzzle a downward force, which is used to suppress muzzle rise.
However, this incision wasn't made arbitrarily.
It requires careful calculation.
He needs to consider factors such as the weight of the gun, the torque from the muzzle to the center of gravity, and the gas pressure generated after the ammunition burns before he can choose the cutting angle.
Otherwise, if the cut is too small, the muzzle won't be able to be controlled.
If the cut is too large, the gun will nod when you fire, and the bullet will hit the ground.
Whether it's choosing the center of gravity or designing the muzzle suppressor, a lot of calculations are needed to come up with a feasible solution.
Apart from this rifle.
During these four days, Chen Changzai also drew up blueprints for a submachine gun.
Before assault rifles dominated the world.
Submachine guns are the best weapon to fill the firepower gap between machine guns, rifles, and pistols.
After considering the British Sten submachine gun, the American M3 Grease submachine gun, the German MP45 Waterpipe submachine gun, and the Soviet PPSh-41, Chen Changzai...
In the end, he chose the domestically produced Type 54 submachine gun, which was derived from the PPSh-43 and was produced by the military factory where he worked in later generations.
This submachine gun has stable performance, few parts, simple structure, and uncomplicated manufacturing process.
Chen Changzai was very familiar with the overall manufacturing process of this submachine gun because he had personally handled it.
It can be manufactured using only stamping and riveting processes.
Without electricity, it would be virtually impossible to apply welding techniques to gun manufacturing.
The strength achieved by oxygen welding is insufficient to meet the requirements for firearm use.
Besides, the speed of oxygen welding is so slow it's frustrating, and it's completely unacceptable for industrial production.
On this submachine gun, Chen Changzai eliminated the wooden stock and adopted a foldable metal bipod stock.
This reduces the weight significantly.
It fires the Mauser 7.63×25mm pistol cartridge, which currently has the largest capacity in China.
This type of bullet is used in the Mauser C96 pistol, also known domestically as the "box cannon."
It is also the most widely used handgun in China today, and it has the highest appearance rate in old war movies.
Li Xiangyang, the Double-Gunner, uses this very weapon.
On the fifth day, Chen Changzai summoned Director Zhao from the headquarters gun factory, Director Liu from the ammunition factory, Master Liu from the machinery manufacturing factory, Master Zhang from the smelting, casting and forging factory, Master Wu from the precision parts and mold factory, Master Wang from the woodworking factory, and Master Li from the machine tool manufacturing factory.
A large group of people gathered together to analyze and formulate the manufacturing process and procedures for the two guns designed by Chen Changzai from their respective perspectives.
This is very important in industrial manufacturing.
Before the meeting, Chen Changzai first introduced the basic design performance of the two guns he designed to the factory managers and masters.
"Factory managers and masters, what you see now are a rifle and a submachine gun that I designed. Now, let me give a brief introduction to the rifle."
This rifle is 1170mm long, has a wooden stock, and a two-piece barrel handguard.
The barrel is 700 mm long and uses a rear-locking bolt structure. The chamber has four right-hand rifling grooves.
It uses 7.92×57mm full-power pointed bullets and can also fire round-nosed bullets. The magazine capacity is ten rounds.
According to my calculations, under the action of a 700mm barrel...
The initial velocity of the bullet will be between 700 and 880 meters per second.
If using a light-pointed bullet, the initial velocity should be between 800 and 880 meters per second.
If a heavy-pointed bullet is used, the initial velocity should be between 750 and 780 meters per second.
Its maximum range can reach two kilometers.
When using the adjustable peep sight, its effective range is between 400 and 800 meters.
If we can successfully manufacture our own simple optical sight in the future, its effective range will reach one kilometer after installation.
I've already reserved mounting positions for an optical sight on this gun.
The muzzle of this gun has been treated to suppress muzzle rise.
For the bayonet of this gun, I adopted a three-edged needle-type bayonet with a blade length of 500 mm and a hollow handle with screw-on locking tenons at the front and back.
After the bayonet was attached, the gun's total length reached 1670 mm.
Its overall length is basically the same as that of the Type 38 rifle.
This submachine gun has a caliber of 7.63 mm.
It can use Mauser 7.63×25mm pistol cartridges, or Soviet 7.62mm pistol cartridges.
Actually, they have the same caliber; it's just that the old Mauser originally called its bullets 7.63, and that's what it stuck with.
Chen Changzai laughed when he said this. There were many other interesting things involved, but he wouldn't go into them here.
After taking a sip of water, Chen Changzai continued, "This submachine gun uses a folding stock."
With the stock extended, the length is 840 mm; with the stock retracted, it is 630 mm.
The gun weighs approximately 3.6 kilograms.
It uses a blowback mechanism, with a muzzle velocity of 426 meters per second and a theoretical rate of fire of 900 rounds per minute.
Effective range: 250 meters.
The magazine uses a long magazine with a small arc and double-row feeding.
Magazine capacity: 35 rounds.
This is what I designed; these are the basic specifications for these two guns.
Do you all have any other opinions?
After Chen Chang finished introducing the specifications of the two guns and looked at the blueprints of the complete guns on the wooden board in front of him, he was impressed.
Before anyone else could react, Director Zhao of the headquarters gun factory gasped in shock.
He exclaimed in surprise, "My goodness! I only brought you a Zhongzheng (a type of Chinese military weapon) to see if you could copy it."
I never expected you to produce two guns that are even better than the Type 24 rifle.
If these two guns were manufactured, fighting the Japanese devils would be as easy as beating their grandsons.
"We absolutely must get this gun out! We absolutely must get it out!"
By the end, Director Zhao was gritting his teeth.
It was impossible not to feel a surge of rage. As a former technician at the Jinling Machinery Manufacturing Bureau, he had witnessed his family members being hacked to death by Japanese ronin.
But in the end, those two Japanese devils were released without any consequences.
But he ended up in court.
How could he not hate?
Everyone sitting here today has their own hatred and resentment.
Now they share the same ideal.
That's what brought them together.
They are all veterans who have fought many battles.
When they first saw the blueprints for the two guns, they knew they were both good guns.
At this moment, the already fervent flame in their hearts ignited once again.
Thank you to all my friends who have supported me.
I had something to do at home this morning, so I'm late. Sorry.
