I am an industrial worker during the War of Resistance
Chapter 35 is complete, it's complete.
Chapter 35 is complete, it's complete.
A whole month has passed.
The factory was built in a secluded mountain valley not far from the machinery factory, nestled against the mountainside.
After the last scaffolding was dismantled.
The 150-ton forging press, which Chen Changzai had painstakingly worked on, was finally completed.
The reason for building this factory here.
It was mainly prepared for air defense.
Just like all the factory buildings and workshops of the Wujiabao Arsenal.
They were mostly built in mountain valleys.
Moreover, they would stay as close to the mountain as possible.
All the factory buildings had walls plastered with yellow clay, and even the roofs were plastered with yellow mud.
The main goal is to make all the factory buildings the same color as the mountains and land.
Of course, when building the factory, the possibility of landslides on the mountain will also be taken into consideration.
Therefore, rubble stones are used to build retaining walls along the mountainside that shelters the factory buildings.
In this forging workshop, besides this forging press, there is also a heating furnace not far away.
Used for heating and annealing steel.
"Teacher, can we test the machine now?"
One of Chen Changzai's students asked.
"We can test the machine now. Let's ignite the steam engine."
After letting out a long sigh, Chen Changzai said to his students.
If you say you're not nervous, you're lying.
It took several months and used up so much money and resources.
It took mobilizing so many people to create this forging press.
If he fails, Chen Changzai will not be able to forgive himself.
"Yes, prepare for testing, ignite the steam engine."
Chen Changzai's students began to relay his orders.
"Changzai, don't be nervous. I believe you will succeed."
At this moment, the headquarters leader who had specially come over and was standing behind Chen Changzai spoke to him.
"Yes, thanks to your kind words, I think we will definitely succeed."
Chen Changzai nodded firmly.
Political Commissar He looked at Chen Changzai, patted him on the shoulder, and said, "We all believe in you."
Deputy Factory Director Xu also said, "Factory Director Chen, we all believe in you."
Chen Changzai looked around.
The masters, workers, and his students who had worked together for months on this forging press all looked at him with unwavering eyes.
At this moment, Chen Changzai suddenly laughed and said loudly, "I believe we will definitely succeed in one go."
"Success after success."
Everyone was shouting loudly, encouraging themselves and others.
As the boiler pressure gradually increases, reaching the operating pressure, the exhaust valve begins to release air.
Chen Changzai arrived at the control panel.
He first pushed up the mechanical lever that controlled the speed of the steam engine.
As the lever was pulled, the steam volume regulating valve on the steam engine was already in a slightly open position.
Once the gas flow control valve is opened, high-pressure steam rushes into the cylinder, pushing the piston to start moving, and the steam engine flywheel begins to rotate slowly.
At this moment, Chen Chang pushed the second control lever, engaging the gearbox clutch, and the oil pump driven by the gearbox began to supply oil.
When the high-pressure oil fills the oil pipes and cylinders, hydraulic oil begins to emerge from the vent.
This indicates that the air in the hydraulic oil lines has been expelled.
The vent is blocked.
At this point, Chen Changzai began to accelerate the steam engine, and when the steam engine speed increased by one-third.
Chen Changzai began to push the push rod of the forging press control valve.
When the joystick is pushed.
The hydraulic cylinder of the forging press began to slowly descend, and the slide beam in the middle of the forging press also descended along with the hydraulic cylinder.
There is only a gap of 100 micrometers, or 0.1 millimeters, between the bronze bushings in the four guide holes of the sliding beam and the four columns.
The gap contains basic mineral oil extracted from petroleum through high-temperature cracking and fractionation, which is then synthesized and blended to produce guide rail oil for lubrication.
The reason why Chen Changzai did not use the more common yellow glycerin in later generations was because...
That's because the raw materials needed to produce yellow glycerin are animal and vegetable oils.
In this day and age, when people can barely afford a few ounces of oil.
Where would you find so many animal and vegetable oils to make glycerin?
Extracting synthetic glycerol from petroleum is an extremely complex process that consumes a lot of energy and produces very serious pollutants.
So Chen Changzai simply had his students extract basic mineral oils from petroleum.
By using different additives, various types of lubricating greases and oils, such as guide rail oil and rolling bearing oil, can be produced.
Although these oils still have many drawbacks, they are perfectly adequate for the current situation.
When the hydraulic cylinder slowly descends to the limit switch, it stops.
At this moment, Chen Changzai moved the control lever back to the up position.
Subsequently, the hydraulic cylinder and slide beam began to rise.
After repeating this several times, his student, at his signal, opened the vent again, and another gust of air was expelled.
This is residual air inside, which can only be forced to the vent position through repeated movements of the hydraulic cylinder.
After his students plugged the vent again with bolts.
Chen Changzai then pushed the push rod that connects to the energy storage flywheel control valve.
At this time, the oil in the cylinder is maintaining pressure, while the control valve has sent the hydraulic oil pumped out by the high-pressure oil pump into the flywheel pipeline through the diversion hole.
The piston-type hydraulic motor that drives the flywheel has now started to power the huge flywheel.
A hydraulic motor is essentially the reverse application of a hydraulic pump.
When you turn the hydraulic pump's inlet into an outlet and the outlet into an inlet.
The hydraulic pump thus became a hydraulic motor.
This is similar to a generator; when the poles of a generator are reversed, the generator becomes an electric motor. The power output changes to the power input.
The principle is basically this.
When the flywheel starts spinning rapidly from slow to fast, the hydraulic motor that powers the flywheel actually receives much less power.
The one-way clutch starts working.
A one-way clutch, like the foot brake on an old-fashioned bicycle, causes the outer and inner wheel hubs to separate due to the speed difference when the vehicle is traveling too fast.
They will reconnect when their speeds are close.
Now that the flywheel speed has increased, it doesn't require as much force.
Because when a flywheel is spinning at high speed, its inertia is enough to keep it spinning at high speed.
It only requires a very small force from the outside to maintain its rotation.
It's like those fitness machines with a rotating disc that you see in many fitness plazas nowadays.
All you need to do is get it spinning quickly.
Then you only need to use your fingers to gently apply a little rotational force to it from the outside, and it won't stop.
This is also due to the inertia of the flywheel.
The large rotating flywheel now also carries a hydraulic pump, but it is currently in a self-returning state.
In other words, the hydraulic pump is currently unloaded.
When the control spool valve changes the direction of the oil pump outlet flow, it causes the hydraulic oil to rush into the hydraulic cylinder at high speed and high pressure, giving the hydraulic cylinder a huge pressure.
The hydraulic cylinder and hammer, driven by this pressure, can apply an instantaneous pressure of 150 tons to the workpiece on the worktable.
As the pressure is released, the flywheel speed decreases, the flywheel one-way clutch engages, the hydraulic spool valve resets, and the flywheel is then driven by the hydraulic motor to rotate at high speed.
The next process then begins.
This process is repeated, and this is the principle behind hydraulic flywheel energy storage.
Later, the United States used flywheel energy storage on its subpar catapult-equipped aircraft carriers, except that the medium was electricity.
After repeated operation, the entire forging press ran smoothly without any jamming or abnormal noise.
This demonstrates that the forging press was very successful in its design and assembly.
At this moment, Chen Chang reset the piston to the upper part, the slide valve locked the pressure, and the transfer case clutch was disengaged. The flywheel was also slowly reducing its speed.
The opening of this forging press is 800 millimeters, which means that the distance between the highest point of the piston's lower plane resetting and the anvil of the ground beam is 0.8 meters.
The piston stroke is 600 millimeters, which means that the piston can extend to a maximum of 0.6 meters.
After resetting, Chen Changzai shouted to his students: "Insert the safety pin and prepare the barrel steel pad."
Prepare forging gun barrel steel.
"is teacher."
Several students stepped onto high stools and connected the slide beam in the middle of the forging press to the four safety rods hanging from the top beam via safety pins.
This is basic safety protection when shutting down to replace the pads.
The students quickly fixed the pads for forging gun barrels onto the anvils on the ground beam.
The hammer head of the hydraulic cylinder was also replaced with a special hammer head mold.
These two molds are two steel blocks with U-shaped grooves, one facing forward and the other backward.
After the students finished installing the mold, they removed the safety pins from the sliding beam.
Chen Changzai restarted the machine and slowly lowered the hammer until the two molds were aligned.
He personally inspected the mold fit.
It matches perfectly.
Because all molds have their own positioning holes for positioning.
At this point, Chen Changzai returned to the operating position.
He shouted to his students, "Load the steel billet for the gun barrel."
His students answered, "Yes, the gun barrel blank." Then...
He quickly ran to the high-temperature furnace not far away and took out a gun barrel blank that was already red-hot.
It was pushed over using a tracked cart.
After two students, using special long iron pliers, clamped the blank and placed it onto the mold.
The forging hammer controlled by Chen Changzai had already fallen.
Under the high pressure of the forging hammer, the gun barrel blank deformed rapidly like dough.
The oxide layer on the blank kept falling onto the workbench, and a student was using a broom to sweep it all off.
In no time at all, a steel billet for a gun barrel nearly two meters long was forged.
This was forged in one go, producing the length of two Hanyang rifle barrels.
The forged gun steel blanks were placed on an open ground for "air cooling," which is natural cooling.
Now, everyone has stopped.
Everyone was waiting for the steel in the gun to cool down.
Only naturally cooled gun steel can be used to determine its quality by listening to its sound.
Time passed by unnoticed. After Master Zhang touched the steel to check its temperature, he nodded to everyone and then picked up the blank with his bare hands.
With the blank suspended in the air, Master Zhang first struck the middle of the gun steel with a small iron hammer in his hand.
A crisp sound rang out.
He then tapped the lower middle section again, making the sound even more melodious.
Finally, he tapped the tail again, and the sound was like that of a great bell.
The voice was extremely pleasant to hear.
Master Zhang listened intently until the sound completely stopped.
He shouted loudly to the headquarters leaders, Chen Changzai, and everyone else: "It's done! It's done! This gun steel is several grades better than any gun steel we've ever produced before!"
Haha, we did it! We did it!
Master Zhang's shouts were like an earthquake that triggered a tsunami.
The entire workshop instantly erupted in a frenzy, like a tsunami tearing through the sky.
"It's done! It really worked! Hahaha, that's great! It's really a success!"
The headquarters leaders couldn't help but burst into laughter.
At this moment, Chen Changzai let out a long sigh of relief and murmured, "Finally, we succeeded."
Unbeknownst to him, two tears had silently slid down his cheeks.
Thank you to all my friends who have supported me.
