Warhammer: The Time Traveler

Chapter 63, Part 4: Cloud Movement

Chapter 63 Clouds Rise in All Directions (Fourth Update)
"The Black Wall?" Logagia frowned. Although he wasn't in charge of technology, he knew what that term meant. "Are you sure?"

“We are more than 85 percent certain.” The technical expert took a deep breath, trying to keep his voice steady. “The packet signatures, the transmission priority, and the characteristic that cannot be intercepted midway… all point to the Black Wall.”

"Sir, this means... the hacker who launched this attack is no ordinary expert. He... he's essentially holding a 'cyber nuclear bomb.'"

He looked around at his shocked colleagues and explained further: "Think about it, all of us, everyone connected to the network, need the protection of the black wall to keep out the roaming AI outside the wall."

Now, some people are able to bypass or even exploit the Great Firewall itself to force information to our doorstep.

This means that, theoretically, he could just as easily hack into any one of our terminals, access our confidential information, and even...

It sends overload commands directly to our neural processor, burning out our brains.

In his presence, we have no secrets or security on the internet whatsoever.

These words sent a chill down the spines of all the attendees.

They are not afraid of business competition, street violence, or even government investigations, but this indefensible threat from the deepest part of the internet made them feel real fear for the first time.

"Find him!" Logagia practically spat out the words. "Find this hacker who can manipulate the Black Wall at all costs! We need this technology!"

The company's crisis, in a way, revealed a much larger and more attractive opportunity.

Whoever masters this power will be invincible in the future.

Just as the biotechnology industry was in chaos, two encrypted communications that came in almost simultaneously made the situation even more complicated.

The first call came from the new US President, Rosalind Myers.

Miles' holographic image appeared in the conference room, her expression serious and direct: "Mr. Logagia, on behalf of New America, I express my concern about the current predicament your company is facing."

Logagia's heart skipped a beat, but she remained calm: "Thank you for your concern, Madam President. This is just a despicable tactic by our competitors, and we are capable of handling it."

“Let’s not beat around the bush,” Miles interrupted him. “The media storm surrounding this incident will be difficult to quell in the short term on your own.”

We can help. The media resources controlled by the new America can assist you in guiding public opinion and diverting public attention elsewhere, such as... potential foreign forces undermining stability.

"And the conditions?" Logagia asked bluntly. He knew all too well that politicians' promises were never free.

“Two conditions.” Miles held up two fingers. “First, biotechnology needs to provide the new United States with more… preferential treatment and support in resource development projects in New Alaska.”

My team will contact you later to discuss the specific details.

Secondly, and most importantly, once you find the hacker hiding behind the scenes, you must share all the information with us immediately.

Logagia narrowed his eyes: "New America is also interested in this hacker?"

“A person who can exploit the black wall poses a threat beyond that of an ordinary cyber terrorist,” Miles argued eloquently. “This concerns the cornerstone of global cybersecurity, and the new America has a responsibility and obligation to ensure that this power is not abused.”

Of course, if possible, we would also like to 'study' the principles behind this technology.

Her words revealed the eagerness of military technology, which has close ties to the new United States, for this technology.

Logagia pondered for a moment.

While sacrificing interests is painful, it seems acceptable compared to the possibility of gaining control over the Black Wall technology.

Moreover, leveraging the power of the new America would indeed stabilize the situation more quickly.

"...Okay, we agree to cooperate."

Almost immediately after the communication with New America ended, another communication came in, this time from network surveillance.

The representatives from the internet monitoring agency also got straight to the point, expressing their extreme concern about the incident of broadcasting using the Great Firewall and hoping that the biotechnology company could provide all the clues they had to cooperate with the internet monitoring agency in tracking down the hacker.

"The Black Wall is the last line of defense we helped build and maintain; any misuse of it is a threat to all of humanity," the internet surveillance representative said, his tone carrying the "sense of justice" of a technology defender. However, Logagia, which had just reached a secret agreement with the new United States, rejected the internet surveillance's request for cooperation almost without hesitation.

"Thank you for your attention, but this is an internal matter for our biotechnology company. We have our own cybersecurity team to handle it."

We have not found any conclusive evidence that this matter is related to the vulnerability of the Great Firewall; it may simply be some kind of new virus that we do not yet know about.

If any further findings are discovered, we will notify the relevant authorities according to established procedures.

What a joke! The internet regulators want to "fix vulnerabilities" and "catch hackers," while biotechnology and New America want to "control the technology."

With such completely different goals, how could they possibly cooperate?

Involving internet regulators will only increase uncertainty and may even lead them to destroy or monopolize the technology.

The internet monitoring representative, who was decisively rejected, frowned in the holographic image.

He sensed the secrecy surrounding biotechnology, but there was nothing he could do about it.

Although internet surveillance is special, it does not have the power to force multinational companies to cooperate.

They could only secretly increase their efforts, trying to find the audacious ghost that dared to manipulate the Black Wall on their own.

Inside the abandoned town workshop, Chen Yu calmly observed the ripples stirred up by the pieces he had casually placed in the outside world through multiple channels.

He witnessed the plunge in biotech stock prices, the surge of public opinion online, and through some covert surveillance, he gained a general understanding of the tense atmosphere within biotech internal meetings, the opportunistic actions of New America, and the anxiety and helplessness of internet censors.

Everything is expected.

The response from the biotechnology sector has been lackluster, amounting to little more than the public relations tactics and blame-shifting strategies commonly employed by business giants.

The involvement of the new United States exposes its underlying desire for absolute control over cutting-edge military technology, especially at the cyber level.

The internet monitor's response was more like that of a dutiful "administrator," eager to fix the fatal bug that appeared in the system.

"The response was swift, but the methods remained confined to the existing framework," Chen Yu commented. "They were trying to use so-called rules to deal with new challenges."

He doesn't care about the fate of biotechnology, nor does he care whether Sasha's "revenge" is perfectly achieved.

For him, this incident was more like a "stress test" of the local forces' technical capabilities and adaptability, as well as a practical test of the technology used by the Black Wall.

The new America and military technology's desire for "manipulating the Black Wall technology" piqued his interest.

They clearly recognized the strategic value of this power and were willing to pay the price to acquire it.

This may mean that they possess certain related or equally valuable technological reserves or research materials.

"Hopefully, it will bring some surprises." Chen Yu's scarlet optical lens flickered slightly. "If it's just these existing crude technologies, it would be too boring."

He did not take any further action to provoke the parties involved, nor did he attempt to mislead or interfere with their investigation.

He was like an detached experimenter, quietly observing the stress response of microorganisms in the petri dish, waiting for potentially valuable mutants to emerge.

His main focus remains on in-depth research into the dimensional teleporter, the transformation plan for the Mann team, and the analysis of the newly acquired biotechnology data.

The current turmoil is merely a small episode in his long research process, part of his efforts to gather information about the local world.

He was curious to see what kind of amazing feats biotechnology and military technology could come up with to find him, under the pressure and support of the new America.

And can the internet monitors who are dedicated to maintaining the Great Firewall use their professional abilities to find even a trace pointing to him?
"Let me see just how far the 'top' power in this world can go." Chen Yu's whisper echoed in the workshop, then was drowned out by the hum of the equipment.

He turned around and threw himself back into endless data analysis and technical cracking, waiting for the next scene to unfold.
