Warhammer: The Time Traveler
Chapter 43 Leap
Chapter 43 Leap
"What are we going to do?! Are we just going to watch Sasha die here?!" Rebecca abruptly shook off Mann's hand, her green prosthetic eye brimming with tears of despair and rage.
Like a trapped cub, she flailed her claws in vain, screaming in a hoarse voice, "Tell me! Mann! What the hell are we supposed to do now?!"
This almost devastating question, like a clear trigger signal, was precisely transmitted to the suspended "Experiment No. 1" audio receiver.
The blue light in the eye socket of test subject 1 suddenly became extremely bright and stable, even taking on a sharp quality.
Its jaw opens and closes rapidly, producing a series of increasingly dense binary clicking sounds that almost exceed the limits of human hearing, as if a storm of calculations is taking place inside.
"A high-priority rescue request has been detected." Its synthesized voice remained steady, but the pace of speech was noticeably faster, carrying an undeniable logical force. "Analysis of the current situation: The target is trapped on the 27th floor of the Biotechnology Building and faces an immediate threat to their life."
External rescue routes have been blocked by physical and air forces. The success rate of conventional infiltration methods is less than 0.3%.
He paused slightly, and then the blue light flashed sharply.
"Initiate an unconventional solution: directly infiltrate the biotechnology's local security network and seize control of the system."
"Procedure Steps:"
"First, use the established weak communication links as a springboard to reverse locate the main network node."
"Second, inject customized cracking programs to dismantle firewalls and proactive defense systems."
"Third, seize the highest authority over drones, internal security robots, and environmental control systems."
"Fourth, create an entry window for the rescue team and open up an escape route for the target."
"Estimated completion time: three to five minutes. Risk: May trigger enemy backup contingency protocols or attract the company's cyber countermeasures team. Proceed?"
This series of calm, almost cold, analyses and suggestions plunged the carriage into a deathly silence.
Mann, Dorio, Falco, and even the irritable Rebecca stared in disbelief at the mechanical skull that seemed to have suddenly come to life and was displaying astonishing aggression.
Directly hacking into the internal network of a corporate giant? Seizing control? That's simply a pipe dream!
Even top-tier cyber hackers require extensive preparation time and external support, making it extremely risky!
"You... what did you say? You can do it?" Pila stammered, as if he were seeing this "iron lump" that he had just been casually fiddling with for the first time.
"Based on existing data connections and built-in algorithms, the success probability is estimated at 72.4 percent," Experiment 1 calmly responded. "The adaptive learning module and efficient data processing protocol integrated by the creators have significant advantages for this type of task."
Rebecca wasn't interested in the technical analysis; she only heard keywords like "probability of success" and "creating an escape route."
The flame of hope instantly reignited in her eyes, burning even more fiercely than before.
"Then what are you waiting for?! Hurry up! Execute! Execute immediately! Kill all those damn drones and robots! Rescue Sasha!" She practically pounced on Experiment 1, roaring in a commanding tone, as if she were directing a guardian deity with infinite power.
"Command confirmed. Highest priority: Rescue target 'Sasha'. Initiate network intrusion protocol execution."
Test subject number 1 said no more, and the blue light in its eye sockets became as solid as a tangible substance.
It silently floated to the center of the carriage, its entire skull seemingly trembling slightly, and the deep hum of the internal processor running at full speed could be faintly heard even through the outer shell.
-
Offices on the 27th floor of the Biotechnology Building.
Sasha leaned against the cold wall, breathing heavily.
The office door had been completely destroyed, and three massive security robots blocked the entrance, their crimson optical sensors locked onto her.
Scattered on the ground were the remains of several robots, melted and even partially vaporized by the terrifying power of the plasma pistol. The air was thick with the pungent smell of ozone and burnt metal.
The data upload progress bar finally reached its limit—100%. She quickly disconnected the connection, smashed the data board to pieces, making sure there were no remnants.
Mission accomplished.
My mother's injustice may soon be redressed.
That's enough. She glanced out the window; dozens of meters above, below was hard concrete.
Rather than being captured by robots and subjected to endless interrogation and torture by biotechnology, it's better to choose your own fate.
She took a deep breath, struggling to suppress her guilt toward Mann's team and her fear of death, and prepared to rush toward the broken window.
At this critical moment!
A sudden change occurred!
The three "predator" robots that had been pressing forward at the door suddenly froze at the same time!
Their scarlet optical sensors flashed wildly a few times, then suddenly went out for a full second. When they lit up again, they had turned into a gentle blue that indicated standby or neutral status!
Their raised net launchers and stun batons drooped limply, their massive bodies frozen in place as if electrified, no longer posing any threat.
Not only that, the drones hovering outside the window, which had been locking onto Sasha with red aiming lasers, also seemed to have gone mad, flying erratically and crookedly in the air, some even colliding with each other and falling down while emitting black smoke.
The distant roar of the hovercar's engine was replaced by a sudden explosion and a crash!
Within just a few dozen seconds, the security system of the entire biotechnology building was strangely and completely paralyzed!
Sasha was stunned, completely unable to comprehend what was happening before her eyes.
How is this going?
Just then, Rebecca's familiar, anxious roar blared through her communicator again, her voice exceptionally clear thanks to the strong signal: "Sasha! Sasha! Did you hear that?! The flying skull is done! It's done! How's it going on your end?! Is the robot ceasing to move?!"
Sasha immediately understood.
It was Mann and his team! They used some incredible method to interfere with the biotechnology system!
A surge of hope for a desperate escape welled up inside me, but it was quickly replaced by a deeper sense of worry.
Even if the system crashes, she is still in danger, and doing so would expose Mann's team to the opposite side of biotechnology.
“Rebecca! I…I’m alright! The system seems to be down! But you guys go! Don’t worry about me! Biotechnology won’t give up!” she shouted urgently into the communicator.
"Go my ass!" Rebecca's roar nearly shattered her eardrums. "Listen, you idiot! We're already downstairs! That skull is guiding you out! You stay right there and don't move! Wait for us to come get you! That's an order!"
Downstairs? Sasha's heart sank.
They really came! They broke into the company's core area for her sake!
She rushed to the window and looked down.
The streets appeared to be in chaos. One of the hovercrafts that had blocked the airspace was crashing and burning, and drones were running around like headless flies.
On the edge of chaos, she vaguely spotted that familiar Goodwood SUV.
We can't... we can't let them go any further! The danger here is far from over!
Nobody knows what backup plans biotechnology might have! I've already dragged them down enough!
A resolute thought arose in her mind.
Perhaps... perhaps only by "disappearing" can the biotechnology lose its target, and only then can Mann and the others have a chance to escape.
She glanced at the height outside the window again, and the chilling feeling of death enveloped her once more.
But this time, the coldness carried a hint of relief and a desire to protect his companions.
She spoke into the communicator, trying to sound as calm as possible, "Rebecca... thank you! Really! Tell Mann, tell everyone... I'm sorry! And... please keep your gun safe for me."
Before Rebecca could respond with a roar filled with confusion and even greater unease, Sasha abruptly cut off the communication.
She took one last look at this cold world, then at the blurry silhouette of the car below that represented "home," a flicker of longing in her eyes that was quickly replaced by a resolute determination.
Without hesitation, she turned around, took a running start, and with all her might, leaped into the shattered glass window that led to nothingness!
The sound of the wind instantly filled her ears, drowning out all other sounds in the world.
I talked to the editor, and it'll be available around the 11th of the month. It's a bit rushed than expected, but it's alright. So please add it to your favorites, follow it, and vote with your monthly tickets! I'll be offering a bonus chapter reward; as long as you meet the requirements, I'll add as many as you can, with no upper limit. I've prepared 100,000 words in reserve, but I wonder if you guys can challenge my limits?
