Chapter 40 Dorio's Transformation

Chapter 40 Dorio's Transformation

In the desert night, the stars, like shattered diamonds, are coldly embedded in the dark velvet curtain. The wasteland town is silent, with only the wind and sand tirelessly traversing the broken walls and ruins, playing an eternal lament of desolation.

As Mann's team's vehicle entered the town, the workshop's modified, heavy metal door slid open silently, as if it had foreseen their arrival. The steady light shining through the door cast neat patches of light on the dim, yellow sand.

Chen Yu's tall, dark red figure stood at the center of the halo, like a mechanical behemoth that had guarded this place since ancient times. His old servo skull, perched on his shoulder, hovered quietly, its eye sockets glowing with blue light. After several days, the workshop seemed to have gained a greater sense of order; the humming of various machines mingled harmoniously, exuding a vibrant energy of efficient operation.

"Boss, the goods are here." Mann got out of the car first, his voice loud and clear, filled with undisguised pride. He personally carried the heavy metal box forward, placed it on the workbench designated by Chen Yu, and opened the lid.

Inside, in a container that has been kept at a constant temperature, several liquids and crystals with strange colors and emitting weak biological energy are clearly visible.

"There is also a batch of dioxin wheat seeds, which is an important raw material for making dioxin fuel. Biotechnology companies are selling it for a high price."

Chen Yu's crimson optical lens swept across the materials inside the box, and the sensor emitted a barely audible hum.

Instead of immediately examining the seeds, he focused entirely on the reinforcing materials.

A mechanical tentacle deftly extends, its precision probe rapidly scanning the contents of the container.

"Bioactive catalyst, purity 98.7%. Gene-modified serum sequence intact, no signs of degradation detected. Myofibroblast inducible concentration meets theoretical optimal value..." He read out a series of data in a low voice, a rare hint of clear satisfaction in his steady synthesized tone, "Very good. The quality and preservation status of the materials both exceed expectations. Mann, your efficiency deserves recognition."

The praise made Mann's smile widen, and Pila puffed out her chest proudly. Rebecca, on the other hand, looked around curiously, trying to find out what new changes had occurred in the workshop.

"So, boss, about Dorio's modification..." Mann couldn't wait to steer the conversation to the core.

“The conditions are met.” Chen Yu withdrew his tentacles and turned the optical lens to Dorio, who was silent but couldn’t hide her anticipation. “Based on these materials and your existing physical condition, I can perform a complete biochemical enhancement.”

The process will last 36 to 48 hours and involves deep metabolic remodeling, neural pathway optimization, and muscle tissue regeneration. The success rate is estimated at 94.3%. Are you ready?

Dorio took a deep breath, stepped forward, and said with a firm look in her eyes, "We can start anytime, boss."

“Very good.” Chen Yu nodded slightly, gesturing for Dorio to walk towards the specially modified medical chair, which was covered with interfaces and robotic arms. “Mann, you can wait in the rest area outside the workshop. The process requires absolute concentration; any distraction could affect the final result.”

Mann and the others nodded quickly and consciously retreated to the rest area that had been set up on one side of the workshop, where there were a few simple but sturdy metal chairs and a constant temperature drinking water device.

They watched as Dorio calmly lay down on the medical chair, and Chen Yu's mechanical tentacles, like living metal vines, slowly reached down, the cold tool tips glowing with calibration light. Their hearts were filled with anticipation and a hint of unavoidable tension.

The lights in the main workshop area were dimmed slightly, focusing on the area around the medical chair.

Various monitoring instruments lit up, and data streams began to scroll on the secondary screen. The enhancement process had begun; in the silence, only the low hum of the equipment and Dorio's gradually steady, deep breathing could be heard.

The wait is long.

Rebecca couldn't sit still any longer and moved closer to Falco to watch him fiddling with the data on his tactical terminal.

Pila then began to examine the newly optimized prosthetics on her body, muttering to herself.

Mann leaned against the wall, his gaze never leaving the direction of the medical chair, his fist sometimes clenching and sometimes loosening.

Time passed by minute by minute.

Occasionally, the medical chair may vibrate slightly or make a faint sound of some kind of liquid flowing.

Dorio's body surface would occasionally flash with a barely perceptible glint, a sign that the enhancement drug was taking effect. Chen Yu stood beside the chair like a statue, only his optical lens, which was constantly adjusting its focus, and his nimble mechanical tentacles indicated that he was performing extremely precise operations.

About two hours later, Chen Yu temporarily stopped the main operations and turned to the rest area: "The first stage of metabolic reconstruction is complete. She now needs to absorb energy and rest. You can come and check on her, but please keep quiet."

Mann and the others immediately moved stealthily to surround them.

Dorothy was lying on the chair, seemingly asleep, her face rosy and her breathing long and strong.

The most obvious change is that her figure seems to have expanded, her exposed skin seems to have become firmer, her muscle lines seem to have been perfectly sculpted, and she exudes a restrained sense of power. Even her height seems to have increased slightly.

"My God..." Pila exclaimed in a low voice, "The effect... is too obvious!"

“This is just the beginning,” Chen Yu explained calmly. “The real transformation will come after the subsequent nerve and muscle optimization is completed. Now, let her rest.”

The group looked at the sleeping Dorio with awe, then at the mysterious "boss" before them, their desire for power intertwined with their awe of the unknown.

Just then, Chen Yu paused his operations and signaled to the team that he could go check on Dorio's condition. At the same time, Rebecca quietly approached Mann, her voice extremely low:

"Boss... I'm still worried about Sasha. The mission has been going on for so long and there hasn't been a single signal transmission. Something's not right."

Mann frowned, turned to the side and quickly operated the communicator a few times, but only intermittent static came through the receiver. He clicked his tongue and patted Rebecca's shoulder casually: "Don't scare yourself. The internal shielding field of biotechnology is always very strong. She probably hasn't found a safe window yet."

Even so, the fleeting hesitation in his eyes did not escape Rebecca's notice.

Although their conversation was barely audible, it was clearly captured by Chen Yu's highly sensitive audio receiver. He turned his crimson optical lens toward them and slightly adjusted the focus.

"Sasha...can't get in touch?" Chen Yu's synthesized voice smoothly interrupted their whispers.

The conversation between Mann and Rebecca reminded him of the original story he had read before he traveled to the Warhammer world.

Sasha discovered the truth about her deceased mother's death during an infiltration of biotechnology to steal data, and died in order to reveal this information.

He turned to Mann and asked directly, "That hacker on your team? Didn't she come with you? What mission did she go on?"

“We took on a last-minute job to steal data from a biotechnology company,” Mann explained. “Sasha said she could handle it by herself, so she went alone. But we can’t get in touch with her now.”

Beneath Chen Yu's visor, the core team quickly assessed the current situation: Dorio's transformation had entered a stable phase, eliminating the need for everyone to be present. However, Sasha's disappearance did pose a risk that needed to be confirmed.

“There’s nothing here that requires your assistance for the time being,” he said calmly. “If you determine that you need support, you can go and confirm it yourself.”

"Thank you, boss!" Rebecca replied immediately, her tone urgent.

“Take this with you,” Chen Yu gestured for the servo skull floating to the side—“Experiment No. 1”—to move forward. “Based on the data you brought back last time, I upgraded its reconnaissance and anti-jamming modules. This mission can serve as a test in a real combat environment.”

Mann took the silently floating skull and felt the stable energy fluctuations emanating from within it. He looked at Chen Yu and nodded heavily: "Understood. Let's set off now."
