Chapter 53 Renhetang

The two were arguing fiercely.

When the man with short, graying hair saw someone coming upstairs, he quickly pulled the person over to settle the matter.

Deng Guang and Qin Ziwu looked at Qin Ziwen at the same time.

Qin Ziwen didn't think there was anything to argue about: "If the contract states whose rooftop it belongs to, then it belongs to that person. If it doesn't, then it's a common area shared by all the residents of the community."

Seeing that there were many of them, the short, stout middle-aged man left sullenly, saying, "Hmph, fine, I won't lock it. There are so many people in this building, let's see how you divide it up."

After the person on the top floor left, the middle-aged man with gray hair greeted Qin Ziwen, "My surname is Zhao, and my given name is Pu."

"Hello, my name is Qin Ziwen, and this is my younger brother, Qin Ziwu." Qin Ziwen nodded politely.

Zhao Pu hesitated for a moment, then said, "I used to be a surgeon. If you have any symptoms like fever, cold, or sprains, you can come to me."

Qin Ziwen was somewhat surprised: "You're a doctor."

Zhao Pu said with shame, "That was true before."

After hesitating for a moment, Zhao Pu said, "By the way, do you have any extra food at home? I can trade you some medicine for it."

"Sure, do you want some water bamboo shoots?"

Qin Ziwen asked his younger brother to take off his backpack, which contained half a bag of water chestnuts he had picked.

He took out two sticks, and Zhao Pu took them, smelled them, and nodded: "These are quite fresh, okay, please wait a moment."

Zhao Pu turned and went into room 401. He came out a moment later with a small plastic bag in his hand, containing three boxes of medicine.

Ibuprofen, montmorillonite powder, loratadine, and a bottle of alcohol.

Zhao Pu said earnestly, "Ibuprofen is an anti-inflammatory and fever reducer, montmorillonite powder can stop diarrhea, loratadine can treat allergies, and alcohol can be used to treat and disinfect wounds. These are all commonly used here."

"Old Deng, do you want some?" Qin Ziwen looked at Deng Guang, who waved his hand. "I have some commonly used medicines at home."

Qin Ziwen opened his schoolbag, which was nearly half full. After thinking for a moment, he took out fifteen sticks and handed them to Lao Deng, which weighed about three jin.

Then there were about three pounds left in the bag, so I took them all out.

He then took out two pounds of kiwifruit from his bag, along with two large crabs from the bucket.

"May I?"

Zhao Pu quickly nodded: "Okay, that's enough, that's enough."

He never expected to get so much food in return, and his eyes were full of gratitude as he looked at Qin Ziwen.

After receiving the food, Zhao Pu's worries lessened considerably. He explained, "Before I transmigrated, I sprained my ankle and was recuperating at home. It's just me and my child at home. We couldn't go out to find food for the past few days, and we're almost out of food."

Qin Ziwen nodded in understanding. For the first two days after transmigrating, it would be appropriate to dig for wild vegetables, participate in crocodile hunting, or team up with neighbors to explore and pick fruits and vegetables in the surrounding area.

Although there are risks, the resources are also abundant.

Now, more than a week has passed, and the surrounding land has been scraped clean. It's not so easy to find food anymore.

There are fish in the river, but there are also crocodiles, so the danger is not over.

To venture deep into the forest, you generally need to form a team.

"Okay, then we'll head back now." Qin Ziwen waved his hand.

Watching their retreating figures, Zhao Pu hesitated, wanting to say something but holding back. However, the two were not familiar with each other, and he watched them go upstairs and close the door.

When Qin Ziwen got home that evening, he first opened the window to let the harpy eagle in, then put the crabs from the bucket into a basin of water to keep them alive, and then put the wild rabbits and field mice into the animal cage.

The herd inside is now growing larger, with five rabbits, three field mice, and one hedgehog.

The newly caught hare was a little nervous at first, but it gradually calmed down after entering the cage and interacting with the other four of its kind. Then, the remaining kiwis in the bag were taken out and piled up in a box to ripen naturally.

After dinner, Qin Ziwen and his younger brother went downstairs for a walk together.

As we walked, we arrived at the South Gate.

He hasn't been here for a while; lately, he's been using the east gate to enter and exit the community.

A large number of people gathered at the south gate, going in and out.

On the open ground outside the residential area, a circle was built with stones, and inside was burned soil. From a distance, it looked like a mound of earth, and thick smoke seeped out from the gaps between the stones and the soil.

There were several of these "mud mounds," and some shirtless men were working enthusiastically.

There were some people holding tools waiting to collect the soil nearby.

A tall, thin man wearing a hat was directing: "Take your time, take your time, everyone, don't rush, line up. Anyone interested in buying burnt soil or purchasing seedlings can come and find me. The price is preferential, it's a special offer now."

Qin Ziwen stood to the side and secretly learned the steps of burning soil. The steps were not difficult, but it was hard work. Several men who were shoveling soil kept adding firewood and then mixing the wood ash with the burned soil.

He recalled the process of picking out insects from the soil with his brother, which was tiring and troublesome, and they weren't even sure they could get rid of them all. For example, they couldn't get rid of some weed seeds in the soil. This method was much simpler.

After secretly learning, Qin Ziwen looked around and found that there were quite a few people observing him at close range like him.

The business of burning clay is unlikely to last long. It's physically demanding but not technically challenging, and it's easily imitated.

So, is the real purpose of this group to cultivate the habit of growing fruits and vegetables among the residents of the community?

No, even without them, some residents are actually planting crops. They are "catalyzing" and "accelerating" the process, so they must have other motives.

He shook his head inwardly; whatever his purpose was was none of his concern.

He has his own goals, as long as they don't conflict with his.

Back in the residential area, Qin Ziwen went to Building 9 and went up to the fourth floor. He found that one of the doors on the fourth floor was open. Above the door was a wooden plaque with the three large characters "Renhetang" engraved on it. However, judging from the condition of the plaque, it did not seem to have been engraved recently.

The room was filled with a faint medicinal fragrance.

Several earthenware pots are used to boil herbs.

The living room was arranged to resemble a simple consultation room.

Behind the table, a kind-faced, silver-haired old man was taking the pulse of a middle-aged woman.

"Are you here for a medical checkup?" A young man noticed Qin Ziwen standing at the door.

Qin Ziwen paused for a moment, then smiled and said, "I came here because I've heard so much about it, just to take a look."

"Haha, okay, feel free to look around." The young man seemed used to this and continued cleaning up the trash.

After watching for a while, Qin Ziwen went home.

After getting home, I lay in bed and tried to go to bed early and get up early, because I had to leave very early the next day.

The harpy eagle cautiously approached, making a cooing sound in its throat.

Perhaps because he's spent so much time with him, the harpy eagle has learned to lower its voice when interacting with people.

Qin Ziwen smiled and ruffled its hair. "Goodnight."

Wow, almost 10 monthly votes already! The three extra chapters will be released during the National Day holiday (October 1st, 2nd, and 3rd), three chapters a day. The release date is tentatively set for October 7th, and updates will definitely speed up after that. I know some comments are saying the pacing is slow, but I'll speed it up a bit without affecting the plot.

Of course, I think the main reason is that I'm updating too infrequently. If I were writing 1 words a day, you guys would probably be more forgiving, right? (ω)
