Chapter 44 Wild Kiwi

Qin Ziwu gripped the wooden stick tightly, eager to try. "Brother, I really want to poke its ass hard with my stick."

Looking in the direction the wild boar had left, Qin Ziwu said, "That wild boar didn't seem that big."

Deng Guang advised against provoking the wild boar: "This kind of thing weighs at least 200 pounds. Don't be fooled by its sturdy build; it's all meat. There's a saying that goes, 'First the boar, second the bear, third the tiger.' It doesn't mean that wild boars are the most powerful, but rather that they are single-minded and become very aggressive when injured. Their first reaction is to charge straight at you."

Qin Ziwen suppressed his urge to attack, knowing that his current weapons and equipment were not suitable for hunting wild boars.

Qin Ziwen calmly analyzed: "Since it appeared here, it means this area is its activity range. If it can appear once, it can appear a second time. Let's find a way to set a trap. As long as we can use a trap to restrict it, it will be convenient."

Qin Ziwu whispered, "I think the three of us can take it down. It weighs 200 jin, and I'm not bad either, I weigh 170 jin. You and Uncle Deng together weigh at least 300 jin. Our weight is more than twice that of it."

Qin Ziwen gave him an annoyed look: "Can you guarantee you won't get hurt? What if you do get injured?"

The probability of bacterial infection from its bite is at least 60-70%, if not 100%. We don't have iodine or alcohol to disinfect it, and there are only three of us. Even if we injure it, we might not be able to catch it. Let's be safe first.

Qin Ziwu remained silent. Although he felt he might not get hurt, he thought it was fine for his older brother to be cautious. "Okay, I'm just worried that someone else might discover it first."

Qin Ziwen shook his head and chuckled: "If they're gone, they're gone. Other things in this forest might be less, but the animals won't be less."

"These things aren't easy to kill. We know a few people in our neighborhood who've killed wild boars before, but nobody here has experience. I'll go back today and get a sturdier rope, then we can hunt slightly larger animals."

Deng Guang said, "The cables in the community should be fine."

Qin Ziwen thought of the climbing net in the children's playground in the community, and he really liked the mesh of that net.

That net would be perfect for catching wild boars, but unfortunately it was taken away by Huang Tao and his group after the last crocodile hunt.

The three walked along the path the wild boar had taken. The boar had come from that direction and seemed relaxed, indicating that it had not encountered any ferocious beasts in its direction.

Compared to other directions, that direction has a higher probability of being safe.

"There are mushrooms here." Qin Ziwu squatted down; some gray mushrooms were growing beside the tree roots. "Are they edible?"

"do not know."

The three looked at each other, then picked some and put them into the small compartment of their backpacks.

They don't know them, but maybe someone in the neighborhood does, and they can take them back and ask them.

After walking for a while, there was a small, gentle slope ahead. Upon reaching the top of the slope, the surrounding trees were sparse, and the light was much more abundant.

Qin Ziwen saw many vines climbing on the tree in front of him, and the vines were full of brown fruits.

The fruit was small, and he almost didn't recognize it at first glance.

It wasn't until I picked one, peeled it, saw the familiar color, smelled it, fed it to a field mouse and hedgehog to test for poison, and then tasted it myself that I confirmed it was a kiwi.

Unlike those sold in supermarkets, these wild kiwifruit are very small, and there is usually only a small bunch hanging on a single branch.

Most of them are brownish-yellow, but a few are greenish and hard, seemingly unripe.

Qin Ziwen began picking, saying, "I've heard that kiwifruit is rich in vitamins, and this can supplement the elements we need."

(Wild kiwifruit)

Wild kiwifruit that are close to the ground are relatively easy to pick, but some of the higher ones are not so easy to harvest.

Qin Ziwen asked the harpy eagle for help, and the three of them worked for half a day to finally harvest most of the wild kiwifruit in this area.

Only some unripe fruit remained.

Of course, the main reason was that their backpacks were all full. All three backpacks were stuffed with wild kiwis, weighing at least 70 or 80 pounds in total.

The hedgehog and field mouse in the backpack were put into the bucket.

Qin Ziwen remembered that kiwifruit had a relatively long shelf life, and with a cellar at home, it should be fine to store it for a month.

Uneaten food can be traded with others for more durable food, such as modern processed items like cookies and instant noodles.

It was afternoon, and the three, exhausted from a long day's work, sat down to rest on a rock. Deng Guang considered for a moment and said, "Why don't we head back? We've had a pretty good harvest today; what if the kiwis in the bag get crushed?"

Qin Ziwen readily agreed; in fact, he had the same idea. "Okay, Xiao Diao, go and check the location of the neighborhood."

The harpy eagle flew into the sky, then came down a moment later, nodding in a certain direction.

The three of them descended the gentle slope, using tree trunks and vines for support, until they reached the bottom. Then they headed back in the direction indicated by the harpy eagle.

After walking for about half an hour, we heard intermittent barking from the dense forest ahead.

"It seems to be just ahead."

"Be careful."

"It's not a stray dog, is it?"

Deng Guang suggested, "Why don't we go around there?"

“Okay.” Qin Ziwen nodded. In the wild, fellow human beings are just as dangerous as wild animals.

Regardless of whether it was a wild animal or not, they were prepared to avoid it.

The three of them walked a short distance to the side.

Suddenly, a brownish-yellow figure rushed out from the dense forest.

"Wang Wang Wang."

Looking at the dirty, dark brown golden retriever in front of them, the three men gripped their weapons tightly.

"Someone takes care of it."

"Woof woof woof." The old golden retriever didn't attack. After barking at the three of them a few times, it turned its head to look behind it. It took a few steps back, and seeing that the three of them didn't move, it turned its head again and barked at them.

Qin Ziwu frowned: "It seems to be calling us over."

Qin Ziwen glanced at the golden retriever. "Ignore it, let's keep going."

The three walked for more than ten meters when the golden retriever caught up from behind, but it did not approach, instead maintaining a safe distance of two or three meters.

It lay down on the ground, whimpering with a trembling sound, "Woo woo woo~"

The golden retriever lay on the ground with its rump raised and its tail wagging violently.

It seemed to know who was in charge of the group. It looked at Qin Ziwen, carefully crawled over, and gently tugged at Qin Ziwen's trouser leg with its paw.

As the golden retriever got closer, Qin Ziwen noticed that it had injuries and bloodstains behind its ears.

"Woooooo~"

Qin Ziwen narrowed his eyes. "Are you asking for help?"

The golden retriever seemed to understand. It stood up, stuck out its tongue, and stared longingly at Qin Ziwen.

Qin Ziwu looked at his older brother: "Brother, are we going?"

Qin Ziwen remained silent for a while, then said, "How many people are there on your master's side? If there's one person, call out once; if there are two people, call out twice."

"Woof!" the golden retriever barked.

After a long silence, Qin Ziwen said, "Let's go take a look."

Seeing Qin Ziwen walk over, the golden retriever excitedly turned and ran away.

Qin Ziwen and his group moved slowly, remaining on guard the entire time, and letting the golden retriever run in the lead.
