Chapter 15 Devouring Beast?
Chapter 15 Devouring Beast?
Through the lens of her binoculars, Hong Kou could clearly see the skeletons of several Devouring Beasts scattered among the ruins. What shocked her even more was that, beneath several skeletons in the distance, embers of fire still lingered, flickering in the wind.
"Could there really be survivors on the ground?" Hong Kou raised her binoculars in disbelief and looked several more times. She turned to Dawn beside her and said, "The shape of that skeleton could only belong to a Devouring Beast."
"But...aren't Devouring Beasts invincible?"
In the past, when searching for supplies on the ground, the Devouring Beasts encountered would revive after a period of time, regardless of whether they were shot with machine guns or hit with grenades.
Every time they gather supplies, it's like a race against time; they must evacuate before the Devouring Beasts "revive."
But what she was seeing now was beyond her comprehension. The Devouring Beasts showed no signs of resurrection, and there was an unidentified black substance beneath their skeletons.
"Perhaps...perhaps the Devouring Beasts are killing each other?" Dawn hesitated for a moment.
As soon as he finished speaking, Dawn realized he had asked a stupid question. In the past, the Devouring Beasts he had encountered would even cooperate with each other, so there was no reason for them to kill each other.
"Let's keep going, finding supplies is the priority." Red Collar handed the binoculars back to Dawn: "As for those dead Devouring Beasts, we'll write them into the mission report when we get back to the Lighthouse."
Dawn nodded. They had been down there for three hours. If they didn't find the supplies soon, it would be troublesome if it got dark.
The hunters made no obstacles along the way, only encountering a few scattered supernatural Devouring Beasts, which were quickly dealt with under the firepower suppression of the Gravity Bodies.
Finally, after an hour, the group arrived at the mission location.
"Wow, this place doesn't seem that dilapidated."
Goggle, gun at the ready, scanned his surroundings warily. Apart from scattered bits of flesh and soil and vines sprouting from the cracks in the walls, the entire storage area was intact, the power system was still running, and the automatic doors even beeped when they sensed their approach.
"Yes, this is much better than where we stayed before," Xuefeng exclaimed.
Where we were before, once we got to the ground, there were not only many Devouring Beasts, but even if we found a place with supplies, we had to search in the dark. If we encountered a door lock that we couldn't open, we could only force it open.
"Stop lamenting, hurry up and let the Dust People in to move the supplies." Gao Ge patted Xue Feng beside him.
Xuefeng also took out a walkie-talkie and notified the Dust People who were guarding outside to come in.
Upon receiving the news, the common people quickly came in and began moving supplies. This mission was so safe that it was practically free contribution points.
You must understand that only the upper class can use weapons. If these commoners encounter the Devouring Beasts and are not rescued by the Hunters, they can only wait to die.
"The supplies here look like they've been taken."
Hong Kou looked at the area where supplies were stored, and it was clear that only half of it remained. But where did the other half go?
"Hey, don't overthink it, Captain." Gao Ge walked to Hong Kou's side. "Maybe they used some of the supplies here back in the Old World."
"Besides, the lighthouse hasn't found any survivors for so many years. Given the environment on the ground, how could anyone possibly survive? They would have turned into dust long ago."
Hong Kou simply nodded upon hearing this. Gao Ge, seeing this, said nothing more and went to the area where supplies were stored to see if he could find anything good to keep for himself.
"Still thinking about those dead Devouring Beasts you just saw?"
At dawn, seeing Hong Kou deep in thought, he walked over to her, took her hand, and their fingers intertwined.
"I have a gut feeling that there are still humans on the ground."
Dawn sighed: "If humans still exist, I can't imagine how they survived."
Even the lighthouse, flying high in the sky far from the Devouring Beasts, struggles to survive; how then can humans on the ground possibly survive? "Supplies inventoried. Six more boxes are needed to fill the transport truck." Kun Jie closed the inventory tablet and walked towards Hong Kou. "We've found fuel, but there's more food stored here than fuel."
"Captain, should we continue searching for the next location?"
More food than fuel? If there are indeed humans on Earth, don't they need food?
After a moment's thought, she said, "No need to search anymore. Let's leave now. We're not sure if there are a lot of Devouring Beasts in other locations. Maybe we're just lucky this time, and there are very few Devouring Beasts in this location."
Kunjie nodded and turned to walk towards the convoy.
Piloting a gravity-powered scavenger, the hunter easily lifted the last few boxes of supplies with its mechanical arm: "This trip was practically a vacation; even the Devouring Beasts didn't bother to entertain us."
"Say less," Xuefeng said, checking the securing straps of the transport vehicle. "You'll be unhappy if you're treated to a Devouring Beast later."
After loading the goods, the dust people boarded the transport truck, many with a rare look of relief on their faces. One young dust person even secretly hid an old-world comic book in his pocket.
Hong Kou also boarded the car and looked around one last time.
"Let's go."
As Hong Kou gave the order, the vehicles started up one after another and turned back towards the lighthouse.
As the convoy drove away, no one noticed two figures standing on a distant building, watching them depart.
"Looks like they came down to the ground to find supplies." Yang Chen squinted, watching the departing Hunter convoy. "What a coincidence."
Bai Yuekui glanced at the warehouse they had just searched: "I think we were here a few years ago, right?"
Yang Chen thought for a moment, then nodded and said, "Yes, there is fuel, and there is some food inside, but it's all about technology and tough jobs, so it's not very tasty."
Longgu Village has its own fields and orchards, making it fully capable of producing and selling its own products.
"Let's go, it's time to go back." Bai Yuekui chuckled and took Yang Chen's hand.
The two jumped from a hundred-meter-high building, their white hair and clothes fluttering in the wind.
After landing safely, I put on my helmet, got on the motorcycle, and the roar of the engine tore through the silence of the ruins.
Another long drive.
"Captain, something's wrong!" Xuefeng's alarmed voice rang out from the communicator.
Seeing the sandstorm rising in the distance, he immediately contacted Hong Kou through the communicator on the vehicle.
"There's a Devouring Beast in the distance, and it's moving very fast!"
Hong Kou immediately looked over, but the swirling dust made it impossible to see what it was.
"At this speed, could it be a new species of Devouring Beast on this continent?" Dawn couldn't see clearly even through the telescope: "But the Devouring Beast didn't come this way, so it probably hasn't noticed us."
"Tell the vehicles ahead to speed up," Hong Kou ordered.
If such a Devouring Beast discovers them, there will be no escape.
