Chapter 59 Late Night Meeting
Chapter 59 Late Night Meeting
Final exams are all over, and the heavy weight that has been pressing on my chest has finally been lifted.
Lu Zhizhou also let out a long sigh of relief. He felt that the final exam was much more difficult than the team test in Maranello, and by a significant margin.
However, Lu Zhizhou was not in a hurry to take the next step. He planned to convince Jiang Mo with facts after the final exam results came out.
During this time, Lu Zhizhou played the role of a good son with a well-behaved expression, helping out at home to prepare for the Lunar New Year.
Everything was calm and peaceful.
Lu Zhizhou and Jiang Mo didn't mention Ferrari's youth training program, and Lu Cheng didn't mention Maranello either. The family returned to peace, as if that experience had never happened. But everything was just on the surface. The more peaceful it seemed, the more turbulent the undercurrents were, as if a storm was brewing.
They all understood that a formal conversation was needed sooner or later; however, everyone was looking for the right opportunity but had not yet found one.
For the past few days, Lu Zhizhou had been unable to sleep soundly. Because of something on his mind, he had dreams all night long, bizarre and strange dreams. When he woke up in the morning, he would forget them completely, unable to recall the specific details, only a colorful halo that he could never grasp.
Startled awake again, Lu Zhizhou glanced at his phone; it was 2:33 AM.
He hesitated for a moment, wondering whether he should close his eyes and continue to sleep, but in the end he sat up straight and prepared to drink some water, his throat was so dry.
Pushing open the room door, I was surprised to find that the pendant light above the dining table was still on, the soft light slightly glaring.
Lu Zhizhou rubbed his eyes and immediately saw Jiang Mo busy at the dining table, which was covered with documents and almost obscured its original appearance.
Jiang Mo noticed the sound and looked up. "Why are you awake?"
Lu Zhizhou scratched his head. "Drink water."
Jiang Mo responded but didn't say anything, continuing to work with his head down.
Lu Zhizhou's gaze never left Jiang Mo. He drank water while observing him. In the dead of night, when all was quiet, Jiang Mo was completely immersed in his work.
It seems to have always been this way, from childhood to adulthood. Not only Jiang Mo, but Lu Cheng is the same.
Lu Zhizhou still remembers the early years when the auto repair shop was just starting out. There were no apprentices or helpers, and Lu Cheng had to take full responsibility for everything, big or small. Sometimes, in the middle of the night, when a customer's vehicle broke down, Lu Cheng would hurriedly get up and go to help with the repairs, often working until dawn before returning home.
The life they have now is the result of Lu Cheng and Jiang Mo's hard work, which they have built up little by little.
Lu Zhizhou paused slightly. "Mom, aren't you asleep yet?"
Jiang Mo didn't look up. "Okay. Soon. You should go to sleep. Children shouldn't stay up late, or they won't grow tall."
Lu Zhizhou had heard these words since he was a child, and he knew them all too well. He also knew that Jiang Mo would not go to sleep immediately, and it was not uncommon for him to work through the night.
After a moment's hesitation, Lu Zhizhou made up his mind.
Jiang Mo could hear Lu Zhizhou's footsteps returning to his room, but she didn't expect him to come out again. When she looked up, she saw her son standing across from her at the dining table, holding a laptop in his hand.
Jiang Mo looked slightly surprised. "What's wrong?"
Lu Zhizhou sat down opposite Jiang Mo. "Mom, there are some things I'd like to talk to you about formally."
Jiang Mo was taken aback. Then she took a deep breath, put down everything she was doing, closed her laptop, and looked over solemnly.
No words were spoken, but the actions spoke volumes. Lu Zhizhou neither evaded nor dodged, looking directly into Jiang Mo's eyes. His heart pounded instantly, and an indescribable, complex emotion surged within him. A thousand words seemed to echo in his ears, and for a brief moment he wanted to turn and flee, but he forced himself to calm down.
Then, all the chaotic thoughts came together. "Mom, I want to try racing."
The words were spoken softly, neither grand pronouncements nor desperate pleas, but rather calmly and even somewhat plainly, delivered in a straightforward manner.
Jiang Mo's expression didn't change. She thought she would be angry or annoyed, but in fact, she wasn't, because she saw the calmness in Lu Zhizhou's eyes.
It was a power born from unwavering conviction that made her willing to give Lu Zhizhou a chance, and also give herself a chance, to continue listening.
Lu Zhizhou let out a soft breath. He placed his computer on the desktop, turned it on, and faced Jiang Mo. On the screen was a picture—
PPT.
Jiang Mo was taken aback, and couldn't help but smile, "When did you prepare this?"
Lu Zhizhou looked slightly embarrassed, "Just these next two days. I was thinking that if my final exam results are lower than expected..."
Jiang Mo raised an eyebrow slightly, "I thought you were a shoo-in for the exam."
Lu Zhizhou straightened his back slightly. "I did my best, really."
Jiang Mo remained noncommittal, gently raising her chin to signal Lu Zhizhou to continue. She had never imagined that she would be watching a PPT presentation at home.
Jiang Mo looked at his son quietly; clearly, he had made thorough preparations.
At first, he solemnly apologized and admitted his mistake. Lu Zhizhou did not intend to gloss over the fact that he had secretly gone to Rome to race without telling his family. He knew the seriousness of the matter, and he also knew that only by realizing this and facing it honestly could he turn a new page.
Lu Zhizhou then shared his experiences in Maranello, his understanding and knowledge of motorsports, and his future plans to continue challenging himself in motorsports.
Then, Lu Zhizhou explained his academic plans, stating that even while racing, he would not completely leave school and would prepare for the college entrance examination next year.
Lu Zhizhou even described his vision for the future. He is interested in mechanical engineering and artificial intelligence, and may choose related majors in the future to go to university for further studies, combining his interests and future plans to explore different possibilities for life.
At the very end, Lu Zhizhou revealed the bombshell, mentioning the ART contract and its conditions. He stated that he wanted to give himself a year to try it out.
In a long and detailed manner, Lu Zhizhou presented all his considerations, plans, and dreams to Jiang Mo, proving that he was not just acting on impulse.
In the stillness of the night, only Lu Zhizhou's words echoed in the air. He was beaming with joy and happiness, which flowed naturally from his face. But after the PPT presentation was finished, he quickly calmed down and looked at Jiang Mo with a hint of unease in his eyes.
Jiang Mo did not interrupt or offer any opinions. He listened patiently with a blank expression throughout, and remained silent until all the speakers had finished.
The air fell silent again, an unsettling stillness, so quiet that one could almost hear the pounding of a heart against a chest.
On the last slide of the PPT, Lu Zhizhou put up an emoji: a golden retriever with a flower in its ear staring straight at him, looking incredibly cute.
It was obvious that this was Lu Zhizhou's elaborate plan. Jiang Mo's lips twitched slightly, but she hid the smile as she looked up at Lu Zhizhou.
Finally, breaking the silence, Jiang Mo revealed a deep worry in his eyes, "Xiao Zhou, you should know that racing is a dangerous sport, a real danger to life."
