Chapter 4 The Dragon's Daughter in Peril
Chapter 4 The Dragon's Daughter in Peril
In the dense forest on the outskirts, the giant zombie cockroaches had already lain in their nests, their corpses sinking deep into the mud.
The town of Swamp is built on a high earthen slope, surrounded by low-lying wetlands and mudflats. If you accidentally wander into it, you can sink up to half your calf with one step.
Ellina recognized this place.
During her time, the various races of the continent made heavy sacrifices and finally wiped out all the White Walkers who had invaded other places, leaving only the tropical wasteland of the rainforest peninsula, covered with trees, swamps, and torrential rains, which greatly hindered the Allied forces' annihilation and extermination efforts.
The indigenous lizard people of the rainforest peninsula include many members of a cult that worships the Others, making them a mixed and difficult group to identify.
Sometimes, while the warriors were fighting fiercely at the front, the towns behind them were ravaged by the zombie cultists who brought in White Walkers, who killed the wounded and burned supplies, causing the allied commanders a great deal of trouble.
Queen Berthalia of the Dark Elves points out that even if lizardman civilians claim not to believe in the cult of corpse worship, they are often sympathizers and potential supporters of lizardman believers.
It would be better to slaughter them all.
Over the years, the number of lizardmen on the rainforest peninsula decreased by two-thirds. The survivors were gathered by the allied forces in a centralized base deep within the rainforest peninsula, where they were regularly interrogated, tortured, and disposed of. The corpses were roughly dumped outside the base, and due to their sheer number, the swamp was stained with blood, hence the name "Blood Swamp Town."
Ellina looked around. At this time, many military fortresses from the Bloodswamp Town era were still preserved in the Swamp Town, but most of them were now just ruins.
The town was littered with the corpses of lizardmen, almost all of whom had died recently and whose bodies were not even stiff yet.
Ellina glanced at Raine.
Whoever you came here to find, they are probably in grave danger by now.
Renn crouched down beside the body to examine the shape of the wound.
There are remnants of necromantic magic.
His gaze swept across the scene, landing on the cemetery on the outskirts of the town, where there were numerous signs of earth breaking through the ground.
Clearly, someone had used necromancy this morning to resurrect a large number of lizardman skeletons from the tombs and then commanded them to slaughter the entire town—just half an hour before I arrived.
It was likely the work of a cult of corpse worshippers.
Based on the White Walker attack at Dawn Outpost last night, Raine can be fairly certain that he has been targeted by the Cult of Corpses.
The reason they attacked the town was likely because they deduced that the giant cockroaches were heading there by observing their movement patterns. In other words…
Suddenly, the chirping of sea cockroaches filled the air, rising and falling, rapidly approaching.
“This is a trap,” Ellina said calmly. “Someone slaughtered this town before we arrived, using the scent of blood to lure nearby White Walkers. We have to get out of here quickly.”
Raine ignored her and strode into a nearby house.
Start the search.
Dia awakened her bloodline in the Horn Temple of Dragon Valley City, and at this stage, it is impossible for anyone to know that she is the daughter of a dragon.
The entire town had been slaughtered, so the Corpse Worshippers had no reason to spare her. Even if she died, it didn't matter; they could just revive her with a Grand Resurrection spell.
Ellina followed Rein as they searched the house, her expression growing increasingly serious as she listened to the approaching buzzing of cockroaches in the distance.
She wouldn't mind dying again, but she absolutely didn't want to be scalded to death by sea cockroaches that would inseminate her with their eggs. The egg cases would fall down the esophagus into the stomach, where they would hatch into multiple larvae that would devour the victim from the inside out.
Until their hearts are bitten through, victims can only watch helplessly as they are eaten alive, enduring immense fear and pain.
After searching the inns and houses, Raine quickly arrived at the herbal medicine shop next door and kicked open the half-closed door.
There are no bodies here... huh?
He noticed clear drag marks on the floor near the cabinet in the corner.
Many hidden locations in the game leave traces outside as clues, leading many gamers who are keen on exploration to develop an "eye of Leeuwenhoek."
Quite coincidentally, Raine had also specifically studied dungeon terrain identification and immediately determined that someone must have hidden in the secret room behind the wall and then pulled the cabinet over from the inside to cover the entrance.
"Go," he commanded Ellina, "move the cabinet away."
Ellina stepped forward, picked up the cabinet, and moved it aside.
Sure enough, there was a depression at the bottom of the wall, and a little girl was curled up inside.
The girl looked to be only fifteen or sixteen years old. She was hugging her legs and trembling, staring at the outside world with a terrified look in her eyes. She seemed to have completely lost the strength to run away or resist.
Ryan's gaze swept across her face.
She had an oval face with baby fat, as delicate and adorable as a porcelain doll. Her rare silver hair was tied into braids and draped down her back, but it wasn't the weathered, snow-white hair of Ellina; instead, it was a brighter, more lustrous silver.
His eyes were a deep, brilliant purple, filled with clear, fearful tears.
Without a doubt, such a distinctive appearance belongs to Dia, the Dragon Princess. Elrina silently gazed at Dia, long-buried memories surfacing from the depths of her mind:
In the distant past, at some point in her life, she forcefully pulled open the wardrobe door and saw a little girl curled up inside, her face still wet with tears, her eyes filled with fear and sorrow.
A few minutes earlier, Ellina had personally killed her parents: two rebellious human slaves.
Suppressing slave rebellions requires ruthlessness, for the survivors will continue to sow hatred. This human child will forever remember who killed her parents and will incite more human slaves to rebel against the rule of the elven nobles.
But Ellina still couldn't bring herself to do it.
In the countless sleepless nights to come, she sincerely hoped that this human girl... and the millions of lives she had slaughtered, would reappear before her.
They dragged her to the depths of hell to atone for her incomparably heavy sins.
“Dia Scarlett?” Renn’s somber voice snapped Ellina out of her thoughts.
Dia was too nervous to answer. She stumbled to her feet and suddenly leaned against the wall, vomiting.
Raine watched her quietly. At this moment, the Dragon Girl had no social experience whatsoever; she was just a village girl who grew up in a remote village—she couldn't even read.
"Take her away," he ordered Ellina.
"Do you need me to carry you?" Ellina asked gently.
Dia stared blankly at her, finally realizing that this beautiful elf sister was not in cahoots with the murderers who had slaughtered the town.
"Mmm..." She bit her lip hard, unable to hold back her tears.
Ellina carried Dia on her back and followed Renn quickly out of the house.
The chirping of cockroaches around us had completely disappeared at some point, leaving only a deathly silence.
Dia held her breath in fear.
She saw that the nearby rooftops, walls, and ground were densely covered with sea cockroaches of all sizes, their antennae twitching, their eyes rotating, all pointing their filthy whites at the three people who had just come out.
Ellina silently gathered her magic, preparing to unleash the Thunderstorm spell again, when she saw Rein suddenly clasp his hands together and activate his magic.
Almost simultaneously, violent explosions erupted one after another from the surrounding swarms of sea cockroaches.
Corpse Explosion Technique!
One of the most insidious methods of necromancy is the ability to transform recently deceased corpses into "flesh bombs" filled with poisonous gas. The scattered lizardman corpses in the town had somehow become Renn's explosives.
The Corpse Explosion spell requires injecting necromantic magic into the corpse beforehand... When did Raine do that? When he entered the town?
The continuous explosions of countless fleshy corpses spread throughout the White Walker horde. Many sea roaches were instantly killed, only to rise again a second later, transforming into zombie roaches controlled by Raine.
Ellina had killed many necromancers in her lifetime, including high-ranking members of the Corpse Worshippers. But she had never seen a necromancer with spellcasting skills as exquisite as Rein's, skills that were almost like art.
The moment a White Walker dies, its corpse is violently pulled up by necromancy and added to the undead army on the front lines.
Despite the White Walkers' overwhelming numerical and combat advantage, they were unable to break through the corpses' crumbling lines thanks to Raine's superb micro-management and the replenishment of his forces.
With the motionless Dia on her back, Ellina quickly followed Rein out of town.
The scene was in complete chaos, with zombie cockroaches and sea cockroaches forming a jagged, interlocking formation, and ghouls and white ghosts fighting and killing each other everywhere.
Occasionally, a few would try to attack the three from the side, but they were either blown up by Ellina's lightning spells, controlled by Raine's curse, and then pounced on by the nearby zombie cockroaches.
Finally reaching the location of the giant cockroach mount, Renn simply raised his hand, and the massive, hill-like corpse rose again, carrying the three of them as they swiftly broke through the encirclement of the sea cockroaches and sped away once more.
Ellina finally breathed a sigh of relief, put Dia down, and gently comforted her.
Renn, however, remained expressionless, his gaze constantly scanning his surroundings.
come on.
If you don't use your killer move soon, I'm leaving.
Just then, a huge object suddenly burst out of the ground ahead, instantly blocking the giant cockroach's path.
Ship maggots!
Bronze-level White Walkers are enormous and adept at digging and burrowing, making them a powerful weapon for attacking castles and walls.
Its sharp, multi-toothed mandibles snapped shut on the giant cockroach's head. At the same time, its body coiled and tightened, enveloping the giant cockroach like a giant python, brutally squeezing it.
Dia was caught off guard and stumbled forward, but was stopped by Rein's arm, which prevented her from falling.
Ellina strode forward, conjuring a torrent of lightning in her hand, aiming at the ship maggot's massive head.
