Chapter 99: Country
Chapter 99 Returning to China
An incredibly fulfilling day.
Even while riding his bicycle, Lin Ze's attention wasn't entirely on the road. His mind was filled with what he had learned throughout the day. The excitement of acquiring new knowledge made him feel like he was basking in a spring breeze, and he kept reviewing what he had memorized.
Clinical experience is completely different from learning from textbooks or in a classroom.
Everything that experienced mentors teach you usually requires countless attempts to figure out on your own.
Lin Ze finally had a day when he wasn't so busy.
There's no need to worry about Kitagawa Ayane. Miyagi-kun has also taken leave. He declined Yamazaki Yu's invitation to play soccer again and planned to hurry home with his schoolbag on his back.
If I'm free tomorrow.
He planned to visit Shimazu Kazune, his senior, to ask about the questions in the books she had recently summarized, as well as another very important matter—knowledge about psychiatric medications.
Here I need to introduce what makes my senior sister so amazing.
Kazue Shimazu holds a doctorate in pharmacology and has served as the chief assistant to a senior professor in clinical research on "monoclonal antibody drugs for Alzheimer's disease" over the past few years. In the field of clinical medicine in Japan, she can be considered the youngest authority.
Although a qualifier was added, it still demonstrates its excellence.
Because her novel monoclonal antibody clinical drug won an international pharmaceutical award, her status has risen again and again. However, she declined many interviews and talks from reporters and focused on her research.
In her words, those empty titles are meaningless; they are not as valuable as observing white mice in the laboratory for half an hour.
The authority on mental illness is exactly what Lin Ze is currently working towards; it's a perfect match for his expertise.
Therefore, Lin Ze was actually quite hesitant about whether or not to reveal his current research on Kitagawa Ayane to her.
After much deliberation, I still couldn't make up my mind.
in other words.
Lin Ze didn't want to drag the other person down with him. After all, his senior sister's future was already limitless, while his was still in the realm of unrealized dreams.
I haven't been to the lab much these days.
Even the strongest person needs someone they can rely on.
When Lin Ze sees Shimazu Kazune, he can't help but express many of his worries.
This is one of the reasons why it is impossible to explain.
……
Soon.
Lin Ze arrived at "Lin's Fried Pork Chop Shop" and locked his bicycle.
He used to leave early in the morning with his lunchbox, but now he prepares it in advance and heats it up in the cafeteria. No wonder he was late one day and arrived at the classroom just before class started the other day.
But we went up the steps.
Lin Ze noticed that the neatly arranged green plants at the entrance of the store had been moved back, and there were no customers even though it was almost dinner time. Just like when he went to pick up the leash that day, the glass door was tightly closed.
Upon closer inspection, it turned out to be locked.
No wonder there are no customers.
Lin Ze's expression shifted slightly. He thought about it carefully. Lin Yuning hadn't mentioned anything yesterday, and the store was open as usual. Usually, his aunt would tell him in advance if she had any plans. It was indeed a bit strange that the store was closed today.
A crucial aspect of running a restaurant is being able to operate rain or shine. Dining is a habitual and repetitive activity for customers; many people regularly dine at the same place, visiting several times a month. They arrive full of anticipation for a delicious meal, and if they arrive to find the restaurant closed, their hopes are dashed.
Lin Yuning certainly understands this principle, so over the years, apart from the weekly Sunday holiday that her regular customers all know about, she tries to stay open as much as possible, and even stays open until 8 pm on New Year's Eve.
Lin Ze was puzzled by today's unusual behavior.
He took out a key from his bag that he hadn't used in ages, inserted it into the lock of the glass door, and pushed the door open.
The shop was completely empty.
He went up to the second floor.
As soon as I entered the living room, Lin Yuning's busy figure came into view.
In the center of the living room sat a rose gold suitcase, its belly open, filled with neatly folded clothes.
On the balcony, the clothes that had been taken down from the ropes were not yet folded, and some odds and ends were thrown on the sofa, including underwear and of course, the innerwear that Lin Yuning usually wore.
She doesn't shy away from it, after all, there are no perverts in her family, and she's always been this carefree at home all these years.
Lin Ze shifted his gaze away from the underwear without changing his expression.
He coughed twice.
Many, many years ago, he reminded his aunt countless times to be more careful at home, and not to just throw on a nightgown and walk around the living room, sometimes without even buttoning it up properly. In winter, because it was cold, she would often wear a thick fleece-lined bathrobe and a pair of cotton slippers, and then she would be completely naked.
Lin Ze didn't think that even blood relatives were different between men and women, or anything like that.
It's not that Lin Yuning is so casual, but that it's really inconvenient for him.
Especially women, they can't be judged by common sense. For example, Lin Yuning would buy different styles of underwear, some of which were simply awful, but she would never wear them.
So what's the point of buying them? Just to wash off the new clothes smell from the mall and then hang them on the balcony to deliberately get in the way? Perhaps this crude explanation is also superficial. Ultimately, even if a woman doesn't actually wear the clothes, buying them makes her imagine how she would look in them, thus maintaining a fundamental sense of "narcissism."
After the coughing stopped, Lin Yuning turned her face away.
"You're back?" She held a pure white sweater in her hand and urged, "Hurry up, come and help me fold the clothes."
"What's going on? The shop is closed and you've taken out your suitcase. Are you going on a trip, Auntie?" Lin Ze asked, blinking.
"Travel? I don't have time for that. Do you think I'm some wealthy woman who's financially independent and can do whatever I want?"
It is obvious.
Lin Yuning was in a bad mood and immediately gave him a disdainful look.
She tossed the clothes rack onto the sofa, waved, and gestured for Lin Ze to come to the bedroom with her.
After following his aunt into the bedroom, Lin Ze noticed that the sheets on her bed had been removed, revealing the bedding underneath. After Lin Yuning gestured for him to grab the other corner of the sheet, Lin Ze obediently helped her fold up the fleece-lined gray sheet.
"It's all your uncle's fault! Your cousin is getting married for the second time, and this time it's going to be a big celebration. I heard he's marrying the daughter of some bureau chief, who also has a child. I have to travel all the way back to attend the wedding."
"Are you in such a hurry?"
"The key issue is that they just notified me, and I couldn't even book a plane ticket! I can only get a connecting flight in China, which cost me an extra 800 yuan... and I still have to wait at the airport for three hours. Just thinking about it is torture."
After folding the sheets, Lin Yuning stood with her hands on her hips, her furrowed brows revealing her impatience.
Long-distance travel is tiring enough, and airports are often unreliable. It was predictable that the return trip would be delayed by an hour, followed by several more hours of delays during the connecting flight, leaving me completely exhausted by the time I got back. Then, with barely any rest, I would have to start preparing for the wedding.
Chinese weddings are complicated, and as an aunt, she certainly wouldn't be idle for a single second.
After the wedding, I rushed to catch a flight back.
Even Iron Man would complain about this whole process.
"So, we can't operate for the next few days either?" Lin Ze shrugged.
"It seems that's how it is. Lingzi can't possibly manage all this by herself, and I don't think you can help either. Let's close the shop for a few days and talk about it again when I get back."
What date is your flight?
"I'll leave tomorrow at noon."
Lin Yuning placed the bed sheet aside, sat down casually, crossed one leg, and looked somewhat dazed.
Before embarking on this hellish long journey, the foreseeable fatigue had already left her feeling mentally exhausted.
Her shoulders slumped, and she rubbed her cheeks for a moment.
"Ugh, so annoying... Why weren't they notified us of the wedding in advance? I'm really fed up."
Now all I can do is complain a few times.
"Remember to bring your ID card and other things. Keep your wallet and charger together so you don't cause any more trouble later. You're already stressed enough," Lin Ze gently reminded him.
Although he was cold and aloof to outsiders, he was always very gentle with Lin Yuning.
He continued, "Maybe I don't have to rush back, or I can rest for a couple of days after I get back. Business is ultimately not as important as health. Just like if I'm really tired from studying, I won't study anymore. Even just relaxing for a while is comfortable."
Lin Ze offered words of comfort, something he hadn't done before.
A moment later.
"Why did your cousin get a divorce back then?" Lin Yuning suddenly blurted out.
This stumped Lin Ze; how did he know?
"If he doesn't get a divorce, he won't remarry. If he doesn't remarry, I won't have to rush back to China, and I won't be so annoyed now." Lin Yuning scratched her hair frantically, making it look messy and like a ghost in no time.
Lin Ze thought about it seriously for a moment.
"If you think about it this way, there are many possibilities. For example, they might find that they are incompatible after getting married, or someone might not be faithful to the marriage. Ultimately, it's a result of not thinking things through and not having enough faith in the marriage—"
"Did I ask you to explain?" Lin Yuning glared at her and beckoned, "Come here."
Lin Ze had a bad feeling and blinked.
But when he actually sat down, the expected scenario of Lin Yuning taking her anger out on him didn't happen. Instead, she glanced at him and then took a small leather wallet from the bedside table next to her.
She pulled out a wad of banknotes and counted them with her fingers.
"Here, take this. This money should be enough for you. I'll be gone for about five or six days. You can buy some ingredients and cook for yourself if you want, or you can buy takeout if you don't. If anything happens, remember to call me. I'll leave the house to you."
Lin Ze nodded, put away the wad of banknotes without even counting them.
He knew that Lin Yuning would only give more, not less.
It's enough to cover expenses for more than ten days, let alone four or five days.
