Chapter 6 End of the Exercise

Chapter 6 End of the Exercise
The drill is over.

Deputy Director Zheng Hongyi was the first to leave by car, handing over the remaining follow-up work to Ding Lingfeng, the political commissar of the Criminal Investigation Detachment.

Today is the last day of the drill. Apart from him, Ding Lingfeng is the highest-ranking leader present.

There was a lot to pack up. These new police officers, who were about to join the force, would have been the best workforce, but Ding Lingfeng considered that the training over the past few dozen days had been very arduous, so he let them all go, which was quite humane.

The outcome of the drills for the new recruits wasn't that important to the command center; the winners received no reward, and the losers were not punished.

The purpose of drills is to identify problems, improve shortcomings, and gain experience; this is the core value of drills.

Han Ling, however, is a variable that is destined to leave a deep impression on the leaders, whether it is a good or bad impression is a matter of opinion.

Some might think: winning is winning, the winner takes all, the process and method don't matter, which shows that Han Ling is more intelligent than Zhang Yunhang and the other six.

Some people might think that Han Lingjian's unorthodox approach of exploiting loopholes in the rules and showing off his cleverness is suspicious and constitutes an unstable factor.

Ding Lingfeng is the latter. He is in charge of ideological construction. Compared with the willful Han Ling, he still prefers the rule-abiding Zhang Yunhang.

Police officers who follow the rules are easy to manage and won't cause major problems in their work.

The tents had been dismantled, and several leaders stood nearby smoking, their conversation revolving around the final criminal investigation drill.

Seeing that Wu Bin was still looking in the direction Han Ling had left, Ding Lingfeng couldn't help but say, "Hey Wu, you don't actually have a crush on Han Ling, do you? He just used a little cleverness, there was nothing outstanding about the whole process, and the crime scene setup was terrible."

Wu Bin flicked his cigarette ash and said, "It's not that I'm interested, it's just that I haven't met such an interesting new cop in a long time."

You just mentioned the setup of the crime scene. If it was intentional, it means we didn't see his full capabilities.

Ding Lingfeng turned his head: "You asked him, and he denied it."

Wu Bin laughed and said, "Maybe he lied? Anyone with a bit of emotional intelligence wouldn't admit it. Otherwise, Zhang Yunhang and the other six would be even more embarrassed. They're all watching, so they have to give him some face."

Upon hearing this, Ding Lingfeng shook his head helplessly, then looked at Ji Bowei, who had remained silent throughout the process.

Ji Bowen, 34 years old, is the deputy captain of the Criminal Investigation Brigade of the Gu'an District Branch. He is in charge of several squads and is considered relatively young.

These past few days have been a criminal investigation drill, so many leaders from the criminal investigation team have come.

The Wanglou Police Station, which Han Ling applied to, is a subordinate unit of the Gu'an District Branch.

Wu Bin was formerly the deputy captain of the Criminal Investigation Brigade of the Gu'an District Branch. Later, due to his rich experience in criminal investigation, outstanding leadership ability and professional skills, he was directly transferred to the position of deputy captain of the Criminal Investigation Detachment of the Municipal Bureau, where he remains to this day.

At that time, Ji Bowei was working in Wu Bin's squadron.

Superior-subordinate relationship.

Strictly speaking, there is also a teacher-student relationship; they are both teachers and friends.

Therefore, Ji Bowei's case-handling style and approach to things are somewhat similar to Wu Bin's.

Seeing that Ding Lingfeng was staring at him, Ji Bowei quickly raised his hand to show his innocence: "Political Commissar Ding, I didn't say a word. You know, I've never had any ulterior motives."

How could Ding Lingfeng possibly believe him? They were in cahoots.

"Alright, I'm going to the restroom, you guys chat." He was quite sensible.

Wu Bin glanced back and, seeing Ding Lingfeng walk away, said, "Han Ling is from your jurisdiction. Find an opportunity to see his case-handling abilities. Something feels off about him. This kid is definitely not simple."

Ji Bowen nodded: "Okay, Captain Wu, speaking of which, Zhang Yunhang is pretty good, isn't he? He got first place overall, he's got talent." Getting into police academy is already excellent, and to get first place in the police recruitment exam, you can't do it with just hard work, you need some talent.

Wu Bin remained noncommittal: "Being smart is a good thing, but it's dangerous to think you're smart. After discovering the footprints, Zhang Yunhang should have chosen to break down the door to verify and judge the situation immediately, instead of standing at the door mocking him and giving Han Ling time."

Overall, in terms of ability, personality, and mental fortitude, she was weaker than Han Ling; grades don't tell the whole story.

Ji Bowei agreed: "Yes, he's a bit arrogant."

Wu Bin: "What I want to say is that if Han Ling also takes Zhang Yunhang's arrogance into account, then that's quite something. After all, when he was making the plan, he couldn't be sure whether Zhang Yunhang would break through the goal directly."

Ji Bowen thought it was unlikely: "Really? The two don't seem to know each other very well."

Wu Bin: "You don't need that much time to understand a person. Facial expressions, body language, and language are all enough, as long as you don't deliberately hide them. One meeting is enough."

Ji Bowei remained silent; he hadn't expected Wu Bin to have such high expectations for Han Ling.

Everything depends on the outcome.

Whether it's a mule or a horse, we'll find out once we take it out for a spin.

……

On the other side, some of the new police officers were waiting for a bus.

Those who were able to leave have already taken taxis, such as Zhang Yunhang and Peng Yao.

Han Ling's victory by escaping the film studio didn't cause much of a stir. At most, it made people remember the name Han Ling. For the new police officers, they didn't see the issue as deeply as Wu Bin. Due to their different perspectives, they just watched the show.

At most, one can admire Han Ling's courage and wisdom, and gloat over Zhang Yunhang's failure, which will become a topic of conversation in the future.

A bus is coming.

"Hey, Han Ling, well done! I just... uh, I can't stand Zhang Yunhang's arrogant attitude. So what if he got first place?" The young man said to Han Ling before getting on the bus, then waved, "I'm off. Let's get together sometime."

Han Ling nodded and waved goodbye in return.

He remembered that the man's name was Sun Yujie. He had applied to the Criminal Investigation Brigade of the Gu'an District Branch, majoring in criminal science and technology. If nothing unexpected happened, he would join the technical squadron and do trace evidence work.

In this criminal investigation drill, Sun Yujie and his team played the role of a suspect who was trying to mislead the public. Their testimony was full of loopholes, and they were rendered speechless by Zhang Yunhang's rebuttal. It seems that they were a little resentful and quite dissatisfied.

It must be said that among all the new police officers, Zhang Yunhang is indeed outstanding. Given time, he should be able to become a qualified criminal police officer. As for how high his potential is, it's hard to say.

Soon, the familiar No. 56 bus arrived, and Han Ling and another new police officer boarded the bus, ready to go home.

Children who come out of welfare homes naturally can't have homes or houses; what they want is a rented room.

After starting the job, I'm considering giving up my current apartment and moving into the dormitory provided by the police station to save on expenses.

After years of working and studying, Han Ling only has two thousand yuan left, so she should be careful with her money.

The original owner of this body transmigrated after taking a nap. Whether it was bad luck or good fortune, there's no point in thinking about it now; it's time to face a new life.

As his memories resurfaced, Han Ling recalled the scene before his death, couldn't help but laugh self-deprecatingly, and sighed.

When an advantage is seized upon by the enemy and exploited, it becomes a fatal weakness.
