Chapter 4: The role of newcomers is to transition between scenes.
Some time later, at the town's police station.
"Yes, yes, if we recall any other important information, we will inform you all immediately. Until then, please allow us to stay here for a while."
Suzuki bowed deeply to the town's police officer, and only after the officer left, leaving the break room to him and several other new recruits, did he cautiously raise his head and breathe a sigh of relief. As a Japanese man living near Yokohama, he always held a subconscious sense of awe towards American police.
"Hoo..." He exhaled softly.
"Is this all? Suzuki-kun?" Another newcomer looked at him cautiously, at the only one among them who knew the plot. "If we stay here, we'll be able to complete that mission, right? Aren't we supposed to board that helicopter?"
“It’s not necessary to board the helicopter.” Suzuki adjusted his glasses. He said confidently, “Didn’t you see the mission details? The penalty for failure is none. In other words, even if we don’t board the helicopter, we’ll just face a mission failure without any penalty. As long as we can avoid the final nuclear explosion, we can stay wherever we want.”
"Yes, is that so?" The newcomer who asked him was a mature office lady. She patted her chest, and her full bosom shook deliberately. "That's amazing, Suzuki-kun. But if that's the case, why don't we just escape from this city? Right now, there shouldn't be any troops mobilized yet."
Suzuki was about to speak.
“We can’t do that,” another middle-aged office worker spoke first, half a step ahead of Suzuki. “I’ve seen several Alien movies, and I’ve also seen the previous one. And as Suzuki-kun said earlier…” He nodded slightly to Suzuki.
Suzuki made a shrugging gesture, and their eyes met for a fleeting moment.
"It all started yesterday when the Predator's ship crashed from the sky, from which Predator Xenomorphs and many Facehuggers escaped..."
Suzuki pursed his lips slightly, avoiding the meaningful gaze of the office worker. He was quite certain that he hadn't mentioned the exact time of the spaceship crash when he vaguely explained the plot. And this meant that he wasn't the only one who knew the plot of this work.
He's not special; he just couldn't keep his composure.
The invisible confrontation was thus defeated, and the tone of the office workers rose slightly as a result.
"The spaceship crashed outside this town, and coincidentally, there's a promotional poster for it right here." He pointed to the wall of the lounge, where a concept image of a town surrounded by forest was right at his fingertips. "Outside the town is a forest, a forest perfect for hunting. There's definitely no shortage of large animals there for the Xenomorphs to parasitize and hunt. And if we try to leave this town directly without taking the main road, we'll probably run into these Xenomorphs in the forest."
“It’s also possible that there isn’t an alien hiding in the forest at all. That Predator would…” Suzuki gritted his teeth.
However, the office worker interrupted him once again.
"The only thing the Lone Wolf cares about is the Predator Xenomorph, because it is a disgrace to their kind. And given the Xenomorph's intelligence, after completing their initial parasitism, they certainly won't choose to gather in one place to act."
Lone Wolf is the name, or title, of that Predator. This is something that wasn't revealed in the show; it can only be found in peripheral materials and factual accounts outside the show.
“So we can’t leave right away. At least not now.” The office worker spoke up, revealing a plan that Suzuki had roughly outlined, but which was not comprehensive. “We have to stay here until the atmosphere in town becomes more tense. Only then can we use intelligence as a pretext to persuade the police to escort us to the outskirts of town. Even if we encounter National Guard blockade forces on the way, having a police escort will give us much more room to maneuver.”
The office lady's eyes lit up.
"Amazing!" The woman cupped her hands in front of her chest, looking on with admiration. "We have to be very careful about the timing of leaving town. I never expected there to be another level like this!"
"It's just a bit of life experience," the office worker chuckled and waved his hand. "Compared to that, the whereabouts of those two seniors, and that strange yet powerful Chinese guy who said he was going to take the initiative—their actions might have a significant impact on us. There's still time to adapt, so we need to be on our guard."
"Is that so... I've learned something new." The office lady blinked, and no one knew when she had applied light makeup to enhance her cuteness.
However, the next moment, in the corner of the break room, the last man in overalls who had been silent from the beginning let out a mocking sneer.
"Ha—" He must be a car mechanic; only when he rolled up his sleeves did others notice how muscular he was.
"Those 'seniors'? They're a bunch of useless trash. Fatty's a weak-willed, indecisive NEET. The woman's a parasitic vine that can't survive without relying on a strong person. I've seen plenty of people like that. You think they didn't come along because they had other plans? Wrong. They just didn't know whether to listen to that Chinese guy or come with us. And if I'm not mistaken, they're probably still hiding on the rooftop of that hospital."
He continued speaking.
"As for that Chinese man, I can tell he's both arrogant and haughty. He doesn't take anyone else seriously at all. Someone like that will probably suffer at the hands of the aliens soon. After all, he looks like the type who would jump straight into the sewers and fight the aliens one-on-one—I just don't know if the aliens in the sewers would be willing to fight him one-on-one."
Suzuki finally found another opportunity to interject.
“My great-grandfather went to China in the last century and fought against the army there. He said that the people of that country were uncommunicative barbarians. And now it seems that he was right.”
"You don't look like someone with a family crest, Suzuki-kun." The man in overalls chuckled, the mockery in his voice undiminished. "Judging an individual by impressions of a group is foolish. Even if you're not wearing the University of Tokyo uniform, you should still understand this basic principle."
He changed the subject.
“But you’re right, that man is indeed impossible to communicate with. But that’s fine too. Since he wants to take the initiative, he’ll definitely cause some big trouble. If he dies early, that’s fine, but if he really makes a big fuss, wouldn’t that be more beneficial to us? The police will pay more attention to the intelligence we have, and they will provide more protection for our personal safety.”
He makes a very good point.
His conclusions went even further than those of middle-aged office workers. And when he gently clenched his fist, the muscles in his arm tensing, he became the backbone of this small team.
The office worker's eyes twitched almost imperceptibly, but a smile still appeared on his lips.
The office lady quickly and naturally changed her object of admiration, her eyes practically sparkling with admiration.
Suzuki, however, suddenly felt a stomach ache.
"Excuse me, I need to use the restroom." He covered his mouth and turned to leave. "I have some toilet paper here, do you want some—" the office lady held out her hand as he left.
Of course, he didn't stop.
The gazes of the remaining three met briefly in the air.
"What an impatient kid," the man in overalls chuckled, characterizing Suzuki's behavior. Amidst the office workers' agreement, the group immediately began discussing their next move.
Ten seconds later...
'Bang—' Suzuki punched the bathroom windowsill—he originally intended to smash it hard, but when he actually did it, he subconsciously withdrew nine-tenths of his strength.
"Damn it, damn it..." she gritted her teeth, but kept them firmly in place.
He took a deep breath, suppressing the turmoil and emotions surging within him. What had already happened could not be undone, but at least future opportunities could still be grasped.
There's still a chance; there's still room for redemption. I've finally entered a new environment; I can't go back to how I was back in school…
Exhale.
Some of the old bruises on my body started to ache again.
He patted his face and took several deep breaths. Just as he was about to return to the lounge…
Something seemed to be crawling in the corner of my eye.
He instinctively turned his head—
........................
'puff--'
The steel pipe was thrown.
Si Ming raised his eyebrows.
A tiny creature crawling in the shadows was precisely struck by the weapon enveloped in the aura of the night, pierced through, and pinned to the ground, twitching slightly.
— [Defeat the facehugger and earn 50 reward points.]
The voice rang out.
The divine report echoed in Si Ming's mind the instant the kill occurred. Almost simultaneously, he realized the unexpected oversight implied by the divine report.
No! This isn't right!
It's already the second day, how could there still be facehuggers active in the sewers that failed to successfully parasitize and reproduce?!
My thoughts raced.
Its body had already taken action.
Si Ming, who had been holding his breath and guarding the sewer entrance without venturing deeper, suddenly sprang to his feet. His body moved vertically with lightning speed. And the instant he leaped out of the sewer, he heard and saw something crash into the spot where he had been standing!
It's an alien.
But there shouldn't be facehuggers.
The reproductive Predator Xenomorphs use a parasitic method of directly injecting eggs. However, at this moment, a tiny detail from the original film quietly and clearly caught Si Ming's eye!
That was later in the story, when the aliens had spread widely and the National Guard had been wiped out. At that time, a surveillance image appeared on the screen showing red dots of crisis rapidly covering the entire town!
too fast.
Even if the time it takes for a ruptured creature to develop into an adult is shortened, this is still too fast. Unless, from the very beginning, the number of Xenomorphs was greater than expected.
Si Ming thought of the crashed spaceship. He knew all the facehuggers originated from a leak in the containment chambers. The crashed hull clearly belonged to a small research vessel. Therefore, as research samples deliberately left behind, these individuals trapped in the containment chambers most likely possessed something special!
—The Queen's Facehugger.
The thought suddenly changed.
The toes touched the ground again.
His internal fighting spirit erupted, and his physical strength increased dramatically. The moment he touched the ground, his body rapidly shifted to the side, narrowly avoiding a swift tailbone strike.
Were the traps detected? — No, they weren't. The counter-traps failed to encircle them; it was simply the aliens' predatory instincts that made them cautious.
The next moment, the Samurai Blade pistol was in Si Ming's hand. He precisely pulled the trigger towards the second alien that had appeared in the shadows of the bridge arch.
'Bam—! '
