Night Journey

Chapter 86 The Invisible Ones

Chapter 86 The Invisible Ones

Cillian had considered many possible developments, but he never expected that Daelin would reveal the origin of his White Cliff Town in a single sentence.

Is it some kind of strange, destiny-related force?

It is said that some scholars in the Society of Moghan possessed the ability to reverse time and thus recreate the past.

Scholars use this method to restore the text on damaged ancient books, bringing back to life history that has been buried by time.

Or perhaps some powerful stargazers, following the great web of fate woven by the fate weaver, trace back to the source, thus peeking into a person's past.

Cillian hesitated for a moment, then rejected all the possibilities one by one.

He didn't believe that Hull City possessed such powerful supernatural abilities. Even if top-tier supernatural powers existed, based on Hull City's history, they should have been the spirit craftsmen led by Rolf.

"Oh, did I hit the nail on the head? That's quite a murderous intent."

Daelin sensed the hostility coming his way, but Cillian had no intention of hiding it anyway.

"If I say something wrong next, you're prepared to fight me, aren't you?"

Daelin glanced at Cillian's sword, which was wrapped in layers of bandages. He had never seen its true form since the day he met Cillian.

Perhaps this is Cillian's trump card: a Source Pact weapon whose true form has yet to be revealed, or a sacred relic from before the beginning of time.

After a brief standoff, Cillian picked up the Boiling Sword and placed it across his knees, his tense expression melting away into a relaxed demeanor.

“When you showed me the information about the Reverse Falcon, I could tell that you were testing me.”

Cillian sighed, feeling a sense of déjà vu about the scene before him, as if it were the same when Daelin recruited him.

“Now that you’ve come this far, if you really intend to arrest me, you should have brought Director DeKarl with you. But you came alone, and you even helped me resolve my promotion crisis, though I could have handled it myself…”

Cillian sat up straight and questioned him.

"Stop beating around the bush, Dailin, just say what you want."

Dalin nodded, but said nothing. He got up and walked to Cillian's kitchen, opening the refrigerator.

"Don't you have any alcohol here? Why is it all milk?"

He looked at Cillian in surprise, while Cillian sighed and just wanted him to get lost.

"Oh, I forgot, you never drink alcohol, which is a good habit."

As he spoke, Dalin took out two cartons of milk, one for him and one for Cillian.

"So, Cillian, you're admitting that you come from White Cliff Town?"

Cillian remained silent.

Dai Lin continued, "What exactly caused the destruction of Baiya Town, and what was the source of that malevolent power?"

Cillian remained silent, then simply closed his eyes and carefully sensed the changes in his body after the advancement.

With the concentration of soul essence in his body reaching 10%, as long as Xilian slightly activates the source energy, they will smolder wildly, turning themselves into a living furnace.

His physical abilities were also further enhanced, and most importantly, it gave Cirion a brand new trait: Flame Hand.

With this trait, Cillian no longer needed to cut his wrists and use the blood to ignite; instead, he could directly concentrate the heat in his body onto his hands, melting through everything he touched.

And only by possessing the Flame Hand trait did he truly gain the ability to wield the Boiling Sword.

"Don't you want to talk?"

Dalyne felt as if she were facing a closed wall in response to Cillian's silence, unable to breach it in the slightest.

"Alright alright."

Dailin shook his head helplessly, thinking that he should have brought Anya with him.

Anya didn't want to face Ciri, whose noble bloodline always made her feel suffocated.

Instead of using rhetoric, Dalyn spoke to Cillian sincerely and earnestly.

"Don't worry, Cillian, only Anya and I know about what happened to you, and we've already taken care of things for you after we found out."

Dai Lin gave an example: "We deliberately concealed the relevant information about the survivors in Baiya Town. At the scene of the return of the Reverse Falcon, the remnants of soul essence power were attributed to the chaotic power remaining at the purification site."

"You're safe now."

Cillian stared into Daelin's eyes.

Dalyn Morrison.

Cillian had always placed a certain degree of trust in him, and after learning about the Reverse Falcon through Daelin, neither of them explicitly said anything, but they had maintained a strange tacit understanding.

The current conversation is more like clarifying this tacit understanding. They each have their own purposes, but fortunately, their positions are aligned.

Cillian asked curiously, "How did you deduce my origins?"

"It was Anya who deduced it; I've always thought she was very suitable to be a detective."

Hearing Cillian's tacit admission, Daelin breathed a sigh of relief. "Anya is a Torchbearer, and the Torchbearer clans have gradually developed different mutations over the long process of bloodline changes."

“The mutation in the bloodline of Anya’s clan allows her to sense the purity of the bloodlines of other torchbearers.”

Cillian said knowingly, "When we first met, she injected me with the Soul Essence Potion..."

"Yes, it was at that moment that Anya sensed the nobility of your bloodline, followed by a series of speculations about your identity."

Dai Lin smiled awkwardly, "As you know, the outer border has been quite unsettled lately. The evil forces of chaos are more active than ever before, and it is said that the Holy City of the White Sun is also going to get involved."

I naturally assumed you were a spy from the Holy City of the Sun, while Anya, after a series of investigations, deduced that you were a survivor from White Cliff Town...

In short, Cillian, if you're unwilling to speak, we don't care what happened in White Cliff Town or where your bloodline comes from.

Dai Lin's tone turned serious. "I've come to you today because I hope you'll join us."

Finally, they got to the main point, and Cillian's attitude became serious as he asked with a puzzled look.

"So all of that before was a test you and Anya were giving me?"

"Probably... What we're planning is very dangerous."

"What are you going to do?"

Dailin took a deep breath and said, "We can be fairly certain that the Claws have planted spies within the City Guard Bureau, who have been obstructing our operations."

The past touched a nerve with Dai Lin, and she said sadly.

"After realizing this, we had fewer and fewer employees we could trust. Everyone seemed like a potential traitor. So we recruited a group of interns who were young, passionate, and full of ideals... Unfortunately, these lovely idiots still died."

Dai Lin clenched his fists, hiding his anger.

"Their deaths yielded no useful intelligence. From beginning to end, we found no trace of the traitor, and we didn't even know whether it was one person or many people."

Therefore, we call him the Invisible One.

Daelin pleaded, "Cillian, I hope you can join us in the investigation of the Unseen Ones, find this traitor, and eradicate the Wicked Claws."

Cillian said calmly, "That's it?"

"Gone."

Cillian was silent for a while, then suddenly, he laughed nervously.

"My God, Dalyn, in the end, is it all for this?"

Cillian leaned back, covering his forehead as if he had heard the biggest joke in the world.

Dalin felt a chill run down her spine from Cillian's reaction, recalling all that had happened before.

"Cillian, was what happened in White Cliff Town tragic?"

After hesitating for a long time, Dai Lin asked cautiously, "You are so young, yet your mind is so twisted. The only thing I can imagine is that some huge blow caused your life to take such a turn."

After laughing enough, Cillian looked at Daelin as if he were a fool and shook his head.

“You’re only half right, Dalyn.”

Cillian took the initiative to talk about the past, "A tragedy did happen in White Cliff Town, which almost destroyed my life and shattered everything that was good to me."

But unlike other tragedies, this tragedy didn't corrupt my heart; on the contrary, it liberated me.

Cillian describes his bright and beautiful inner self as someone who loves himself to the extreme, like a narcissistic selfish person.

“Dailin, everyone lives under the scrutiny of others, just like you live under Anya’s gaze. In order to avoid disappointing Anya and ruining your image in her eyes, you often do things that are contrary to your own wishes.”

As if he had found a kindred spirit, Cillian revealed the darkness in his heart.

"Similarly, I realized my bad nature a long, long time ago. I am afraid of other people's eyes. I am more afraid of the disappointment in their eyes than of them thinking I am a freak or a pervert."

But all of this vanished with their deaths...

Now, I am free.

Cillian took the initiative to grasp Daelin's slightly cold hand and spoke.

"I hope we have a pleasant working relationship, Dailin."
