Night Journey
Chapter 81 Accident
Chapter 81 Accident
The situation was urgent, and Bruce had a history of going crazy due to various strange experiments.
Before Cillian could even hear Bruce's amazing story, he grabbed the Boiling Sword and hurriedly left.
He jumped off the balcony.
Cillian arrived at the prison where Valerie was being held almost as quickly as possible.
In front of Valerie's cell, Cillian met Daelin and Anya.
"what happened?"
Cillian's tone held a hint of anger, "Wasn't Valerie always under our surveillance? How could she be dead!"
After the interrogation that day, Valerie was detained by the city guards, with guards on duty 24 hours a day to ensure that no accidents would happen.
But she still died, right under the noses of the city garrison.
"Valerie is not dead."
Anya added, "But right now, it's no different for her than if she were dead."
As she spoke, she moved aside.
Inside the cramped cell, a familiar figure was nestled on the cold bed.
Unlike the glamorous image she remembered, Valerie looked much more miserable now. No one knew how she had survived these past few days. She had lost a lot of weight, and her hair was dry and tangled.
She turned her back and buried her head in the corner of the wall.
Cillian opened the cell door and strode inside. Some staff members tried to stop him, but Daelin stopped them with a single glance.
Valerie.
Cillian called her name, but Valerie did not respond.
He carefully pressed Valerie's shoulders to turn her head to face him, but what followed was a piercing scream.
Valerie was pale, her eyes sunken, like a corpse drained of blood.
She screamed at the top of her lungs, clutching the only blanket she had tightly, wrapping herself up completely, and retreating further and further into the corner.
Are you faking your madness?
Cillian grabbed Valerie by the throat, but all he heard was her sobbing.
Tears streamed down his palms.
As she gradually tightened her wrist, the intense feeling of suffocation caused Valerie to slowly lose her voice and almost faint.
"Enough, Cillian!"
Daelin rushed in and stopped Cillian's atrocities.
Now that things have come to this, Daelin has realized that Ciri usually appears to be a gentleman, but once he gets involved in Chaos events, he becomes extremely violent, bloodthirsty, and insane.
What's worse, Daelin can't really criticize him. Cillian is righteous, but he's a bit... too righteous.
Cillian released Valerie, who gasped for breath and hid in the corner.
He frowned and asked, "What's going on?"
“I don’t know,” Dalin shook his head, “but the current situation is that Valerie has gone mad.”
"I don't think she's crazy."
Anya also walked in, looking at her former friend with a sorrowful gaze.
"I think she's more like...forgotten."
Cillian asked, puzzled, "What do you mean?"
“I reviewed the subsequent interrogation records, and initially, Valerie was able to glean some usable information.”
Anya picked up a record and casually flipped through a couple of pages. "But as time went on, when we questioned her, she always said she didn't remember."
“We conducted a lie detector test, and she was telling the truth. She had indeed forgotten many things, but how is that possible?”
Anya gradually found the burning fuse.
"How could Valerie's memory have deteriorated so much in just a few days? In the following days, she forgot even more things."
She didn't know who we were, or why she was there. She did remember that she was Valerie, but she said she was just a dancer.
Ciri listened quietly, his expression gradually becoming serious and solemn.
“A dancer?” Dai Lin murmured. “Her recent… no, her memories of the last few years have completely disappeared. Her self-awareness has reverted to the days when she was a dancer.”
"That's roughly the current assessment, but this isn't the end."
Anya turned a few more pages. "By now, Valerie's memories have completely evaporated; nothing remains."
She stepped forward and gently stroked Valerie's forehead.
"I don't know if Valerie's mind regressed to childhood due to memory evaporation, or if she was destroyed and left with only biological instincts."
But what we do know is that the 'Valerie' we knew is gone and will never return. Cillian remained silent, staring intently at Valerie, before finally speaking slowly after a long while.
"Did anyone approach Valerie while she was in custody?"
Anya flipped to the first few pages of the record. "Apart from the personnel conducting the normal interrogation, no one had contacted her, and the guards also said that there was nothing unusual."
Cillian continued, "Didn't Valerie's memory anomalies attract the attention of the interrogators? How did it take until now for it to come to light?"
"They discovered the anomaly and reported it, but..."
Anya hesitated for a moment, but still spoke up, "They reported it to Director DeKarl, but at that time Director DeKarl was busy arguing with other senators, not to mention that the Reverse Falcon also returned at that time, causing an even bigger uproar."
Cillian arrived outside the cell, his back pressed against the wall.
Boiling Sword hung low, its tip tapping the ground uneasily, producing a crisp sound like the ticking of a clock.
Cillian suddenly looked up. "What do you think caused this?"
“We examined her body and found no signs of poisoning or external injury.”
Dailin answered crisply, "Clearly, some extraordinary force acted directly on her brain."
Cillian was even more confused. "I don't remember any destiny possessing this power."
In today's civilized world, most of the mainstream superhumans are followers of the Three Sages, followed by the Six Giants.
Besides the six Colossi, there are many other hidden Colossi who still exist, but most of them have long since disappeared and are no longer active. Only occasionally do a few of them embark on the dusty path of destiny.
“There aren’t many records about the Six Giants in Hel City, and even fewer related to their destinies,” Daelin said with a headache. “Does this mean the investigation has to end here again?”
"Damn it!"
Cillian slammed his fist against the wall, blood seeping from his knuckles. He took a deep breath and then exhaled slowly.
He straightened up, his cold gaze sweeping over Dailin and Anya, then looking at the many guards and staff outside the prison.
Clearly, the person with the wicked claws within the city guard bureau could be a guard, an employee, or even...
Cillian first glanced at Dalyn, then turned to Anya.
The two men felt a chill run down their spines from Cillian's gaze, as if a bloodthirsty jackal were licking their necks.
"I go first."
Cillian left without looking back after saying those words.
They only breathed a sigh of relief when Cillian's figure completely disappeared from their sight.
Immediately afterward, the two realized that, in terms of both position and rank, they were Cillian's superiors, yet for a moment, they felt like they were the subordinates.
Dai Lin said in a low voice, "What do you think is going on?"
Anya closed the prison door and said worriedly, "Besides the invisible ones, who else do you think could do such a thing silently?"
The formless.
Upon hearing the name, Dai Lin felt immense pressure and worry, and mimicked Cillian's actions by forcefully pounding on the wall.
Suddenly, Daelin asked, "How's your assessment going? Do you think Cillian is a good candidate?"
"of course can."
Anya agreed, "His strong sense of justice and hatred of evil is evident to both of us."
She paused for a moment, then smiled wryly, "The only problem is that Cillian is a bit too righteous."
“You felt it just now, didn’t you? I’m sure that for a moment, Cillian’s dagger-like gaze made him doubt us, and even prepare to draw his sword and kill us… even though we’ve known each other for a long time and have lived and died together.”
"Isn't this great?" Dai Lin exclaimed.
“That’s true,” Anya said admiringly. “Only ruthless people can live longer and move forward without hesitation.”
“I’m planning to find the right time to tell him everything about the Invisibles,” Dalyn asked Anya for her opinion. “What do you think?”
Anya smiled. "Of course, and I think the time is very near."
Having spent so much time together, Dai Lin was very familiar with Anya's various reactions, and this smile aroused his curiosity.
"Anya, what have you discovered this time?"
"a lot of."
"A lot? I told you, you're more suited to be a detective; you're quite meticulous."
Dailin nudged her shoulder and asked curiously, "What exactly is it?"
Anya squinted and whispered.
"I'm pretty sure about Cillian's background now."
