Chapter 71 The Perfect Person

Chapter 71 The Perfect Person
"Okay, I've finished asking my questions."

Cillian left the interrogation room. Dalin smelled the blood in the air and said wearily.

Did you still do it?

"No, I just took a few small items as souvenirs."

Cillian held up his cleaned teeth and examined them carefully.

"Valerie's oral health is quite good."

"You...forget it."

Dalin gave up trying to understand Cillian's way of thinking; saying anything more would only make things difficult for herself.

"Then I'll be going now, Dailin."

Cillian waved his hand, and Daelin hummed in agreement, letting him leave.

Back in the interrogation room, Valerie was covering her mouth and curling up.

Dalin wanted to ask her what Cillian had just said to her, but then she remembered her promise and Cillian's still unclear identity.

After a long while, Dai Lin turned and left, muttering to himself as he thought about the investigation he had conducted with Anya.

"There's already enough to do, so let's not create more trouble for ourselves."

……

When Cillian reached the street corner and was about to return to his apartment, he saw Maefuni sitting silently with her head down in an open-air café.

Meifuni held a cup of coffee in both hands, without taking a sip, her eyes vacant, as if she had been lost in thought for a long time.

"I thought you went back to the Centipede Merchant Guild. What, have you been waiting here all this time?"

Cillian sat down opposite her, suddenly intruding into her world.

“Cillian?”

Maefoni was startled by Cillian. Thinking of how engrossed Cillian had been when Valerie was being tortured, she instinctively moved her chair back.

"Haha, did I scare you?"

Cillian knew what Mafone was afraid of.

Meifuni tried to cover it up, saying, "It's nothing, I'm just not feeling well."

"uh-huh."

Without saying much, Cillian casually called out to the waiter.

"Hello, one order of fries, please."

Cillian ate while patiently waiting.

At this moment, countless thoughts were squeezing and screaming in Maefoni's mind. She couldn't bear it all and was just waiting for a certain moment to completely explode.

What was Valerie's fate?

Finally, Meifuni couldn't help but speak up.

"die."

Cillian answered crisply, "You've heard her testimony too; she was involved in multiple human trafficking, murder, and even chaotic events."

Maefuni had expected this answer, but when she actually heard Cillian say it, she still had a different feeling.

Cillian asked, "Are you sad for her?"

"Yes."

Meifuni lay on the table and buried her face in her arms.

“I am a member of the Love family. Everyone who approaches me has a purpose, and Valerie is no exception. I knew from the beginning that our friendship was not pure, but I always thought that as long as we kept the boundaries in mind, it would be fine.”

"I think I understand what you mean."

Cillian saw right through Maefuni's inner turmoil.

“Valerie has been with you for a long time, and you inevitably have feelings for this relationship, but you also understand that Valerie is a sinner and she should be judged.”

Cillian gently stroked Mefuni's back, beginning to analyze her inner thoughts.

"You can't let go of this emotion, and it's bothering you a lot."

"probably."

Meifuni raised her head slightly, revealing her misty eyes.

She looked so pitiful, like a stray cat soaked in the rain.

At that moment, Cillian suddenly realized that Maefuni was actually a few years younger than him and had always lived under the protection of the Love family, just like he had in the past.

Mefone recalled, "Valerie talked to me about her past. She said she was a dancer who became the mistress of a wealthy businessman by chance. She worked her way up from the bottom to achieve everything she has today."

“It’s alright, Mafoni,” Cillian comforted her. “It just shows that you are a complete person.”

This was the first time Meifuni had ever heard the word "perfect" used to describe a person.

“A correct sense of right and wrong makes you despise Valerie, and a highly emotional heart makes you confused and saddened by it,” Cillian affirmed. “These are all necessary conditions for a person to be human.”

"But……"

Cillian's tone hardened, and his pity for Maefuni turned ashen.

“Remember this, Mafone: pointless pity will only hurt everyone.”

Cillian described, "What if I hadn't discovered the Chaos tattoo on Valerie's body? What would have happened next..."

Following Cillian's words, Maefuni began to fantasize, unconsciously gripping her coffee cup tightly, causing ripples to spread across the surface of the water.

She took a stiff sip, then slammed it down.

"Cillian, you're amazing."

Mei Funi lowered her head and murmured, "She's only a few years older than me, but she's much more mature."

Cillian didn't take it seriously. "After experiencing similar things many times, everyone will become more mature, even hard-hearted."

Are you a heartless person?

"Meifuni asked timidly."

"Me? I'm passionate!"

Cillian grabbed the remaining fries and stuffed them into his mouth, then squeezed some ketchup into his mouth and chewed them in big mouthfuls.

Meifuni managed a weak laugh at his comical antics, but after the laughter subsided, a deeper sadness washed over her. "I've lost a friend."

Cillian wiped his mouth and replied, "I can be your new friend."

Mefuni was caught off guard by Cillian's reply.

"Well, thank you."

"You're welcome."

……

As Dai Lin grew drowsy waiting outside the interrogation room, the handover personnel finally arrived.

"You can rest now."

“Okay, it’s finally over,” Dai Lin complained. “This rare publicly funded event has been ruined just like that.”

The employee laughed and said, "Haha, there's nothing we can do about it."

"The rest of the work is in your hands," Dai Lin instructed. "The information in her head is very important; don't let anything go wrong."

"learn."

The staff watched Dalin leave, then took the still trembling Valerie out of the interrogation room and transferred her to the escort vehicle.

"Alright, you can drive now."

The employee sat in the passenger seat and spoke to the driver.

The vehicle slowly began to move, merging into the crowded streets of Hull.

"Sigh, does this count as working overtime? These Chaos believers are really something, always causing us trouble. Can't they just have a few days of peace and quiet?"

The employee cursed loudly at the blocked street.

"Ha ha……"

The driver chuckled awkwardly a few times.

Another voice said, "It's alright, it'll all be over soon."

“That’s true,” the clerk nodded. “After I’ve escorted her, I can go home.”

"correct."

The employee suddenly thought of something and excitedly turned his head.

"Want to grab a drink together later? Ah..."

The employee wanted to call out the name of a third person, but when the words were on the tip of his tongue, he couldn't remember the name, even though they had worked together for a long time.

No...that's not right...

The employee realized with a start that he and the driver were the only escorts. When did the third person arrive?
But why do I subconsciously feel that the appearance of a third person is reasonable?

"Something is wrong."

The employee reached for his service pistol, but then the voice drew closer.

"What's wrong? Think about it carefully again."

The employee's movements gradually slowed down, and something in his mind began to crumble.

"What...what are all these?"

The employee looked at the strange metal structure in his hand with confusion, and was horrified to find himself trapped inside a steel beast.

He forgot about the so-called "guns" and "vehicles," and soon, even the events that had just occurred disappeared from his mind.

Without any context, the employee sat helplessly in his seat, even his own name gradually fading and disappearing.

"Danger... Danger."

The employee, barely managing to maintain his composure, tried to warn the driver beside him, but the driver had already slumped over the steering wheel, his eyes completely white.

"Relax, you'll be fine."

The sound quickly faded away and disappeared; the employee closed his eyes.

After dealing with the staff and driver, the visitor unlocked the door and came to Valerie.

Valerie did not recognize the person in front of her, but the person's calm and smiling expression made it seem as if he knew her quite well.

"Yes... it's you..."

For some reason, Valerie subconsciously guessed the identity of the visitor.

The newcomer spoke, "Valerie, you have disappointed me greatly."

“I…I tried my best, but there was nothing I could do,” Valerie pleaded. “I didn’t reveal the secrets of the Claws, I just gave them some trivial information. After all, those people were meant to be sacrificed, weren’t they?”

"Don't be so afraid, I'm always very kind."

The newcomer lifted Valerie's chin and said gently, "Don't worry, I won't kill you."

Valerie's tense nerves relaxed, her muscles loosened, her pupils dilated, and she let out a series of meaningless low moans before collapsing into the carriage.

The visitor vanished without a trace.

The piercing honking came from all directions, waking up the staff.

The employee opened his eyes and saw a stranger standing outside the car window, banging on the window.

"Drive! The traffic is completely blocked!"

"Oh, oh, sorry, sorry," the employee woke up and gave the driver a hard shove. "How could you fall asleep? Wake up!"

"Ah, am I asleep?"

The driver also looked dazed, and hurriedly started the vehicle, moving it clumsily.

"Damn it, were we both asleep just now?"

The employee rubbed his head, trying to recall what had just happened. He only remembered exchanging a few words with the driver, and then his memory became hazy.

“It must be,” the driver said, oblivious to anything amiss, and joined in the grumbling, “It’s all because of that tidal night; we’ve been working overtime for days now.”

The employee sighed helplessly, "Sigh, stop talking and let's go."

As the vehicle moved forward, Valerie, who had collapsed to the ground inside the swaying carriage, slowly awoke, opening her eyes to a blank and bewildered look.

The blaring of horns rose and fell, and countless vehicles merged into the congested streets, like the city's blocked blood vessels.
