Trench Bolts and Magic

Chapter 13 Reserves, advance!

Chapter 13 Reserves, advance!

When another platoon leader from the 3rd Company heard that Morin seemed to have other options besides a direct assault, he also spoke up and advised, "Sir, a frontal assault would result in too many casualties. Perhaps we could try Lieutenant Morin's method!"

Time ticked by, and the screams of the survivors from the 1st and 2nd companies ahead, along with the intermittent bursts of fire from the Vickers machine gun, lashed at everyone's nerves like whips.

A few seconds later, as if he had made up his mind, Captain Hauser waved his hand sharply.

"Alright! Morin! Take your men and attack from the left flank! If your plan fails, I don't care how well you fight, you must immediately move towards the main force! Understand?"

"Yes, sir!" A huge weight was lifted off Morin's shoulders.

Without the slightest hesitation, he immediately turned to face his subordinates.

"All three rows! Follow me!"

Without uttering any unnecessary words, he took off running along the edge of the bushes toward the more complex terrain on the left.

Sergeant Klaus was the first to react, and he roared, "Follow the platoon leader! Quick! Get moving!"

The four corporals and the squad leaders immediately urged their soldiers to break away from the main force of the company and, following Morin's figure, plunged into the complex terrain on the left flank.

Upon entering the forest, Morin immediately issued his first, truly meaningful, combat order in this world.

"Attention all platoons! Advance in squads, spread out! Maintain social distancing and do not crowd together!"

These commands were naturally completely unfamiliar to the Saxon soldiers.

Fortunately, Morin's voice was clear and decisive, and with Sergeant Klaus and four other corporals quickly understanding his meaning and repeating the order repeatedly, the soldiers, though somewhat flustered, still complied.

"First squad, stop at that earthen slope fifty meters ahead! If any enemy approaches the main force from other directions, open fire to cover us!"

Morin pointed to a spot and called out to a corporal.

"Yes, sir!"

The corporal quickly led two squads of soldiers from the first platoon to the earthen slope, where they set up their rifles, using the trees and the slope as cover.

"The rest of you, follow me! Cross the riverbed!"

Molin took the lead and slid down the dry riverbed, which was more than a meter high.

The other soldiers followed closely behind, moving quickly forward under the cover of the riverbed's depressions.

The roar of the Vickers machine gun continued to rage on the right, but its attention was completely drawn to the frontal battlefield, and it did not notice that this small unit was quietly approaching from its blind spot.

After running swiftly for nearly 150 meters across the riverbed, Morin glanced at the minimap. Just as they were about to reach the flank of the village, they suddenly heard gunfire erupting from the earthen mound where the first squad was located.

He gestured, and the entire group stopped and lowered their bodies in the riverbed.

Sergeant Klaus, who was with him, didn't even need his orders to climb to the other side of the riverbed and cautiously peek out.

"Lieutenant, a small number of enemies are approaching us from the direction of the village. The first squad is firing on them and has suppressed them."

"it is good!"

Morin nodded, then looked solemnly at his platoon of soldiers.

"Sergeant Klaus, you and the second squad will establish a foothold here. If we are repelled, you will cover our retreat back to the riverbed."

"Lieutenant, you stay here! Attacking is too dangerous!" Sergeant Klaus hesitated, clearly not wanting Morin to put himself in danger.

"Stop talking nonsense, this is an order!"

Sergeant Klaus stopped hesitating and immediately led two squads of soldiers to quietly climb the gentle slope by the riverbed.

Meanwhile, Morin led the remaining two squads of more than 40 soldiers, keeping their bodies low, and continued to advance along the riverbed.

Perhaps the cover provided by the first squad was effective, as the subsequent advance was not interfered with by anything else, so Morin quickly led everyone to the point where the riverbed met the village.

The two-story farmhouse, which served as a machine gun emplacement, was now exposed to their side and front, less than 100 meters away according to the map.

"Sergeant Jonah!"

Morin beckoned to one of the two remaining corporals beside him, who immediately came over with his rifle in hand upon hearing his voice. "See that two-story farmhouse?"

"I saw it, Lieutenant!"

"I'll lead the third squad to launch the assault. You take the fourth squad and keep an eye on the doors and windows of this farmhouse facing our direction. If there's any movement, open fire immediately to suppress the enemy and prevent them from attacking us! Can you do that?!"

"Don't worry, Lieutenant!"

Morin nodded and led the last corporal and two squads of soldiers up the riverbed, charging toward the farmhouse.

The enemy quickly discovered this commotion.

When Sergeant Jonah, who was keeping watch on the farmhouse, noticed a figure in a second-floor window, he immediately raised his Gew.98 rifle, aimed at the window, and pulled the trigger first.

"Second-floor window of the farmhouse! Free fire! Open fire!"

"boom!"

First, a crisp gunshot rang out.

Immediately afterwards, the twenty rifles around him opened fire simultaneously.

The Gew.98 rifle is renowned for its high accuracy, and Saxon soldiers have strict requirements for shooting accuracy in their daily training.

So all twenty bullets hit the second-floor window of the farmhouse, sending splinters flying and the figure inside disappearing from sight.

It's under control!

Corporal Jonah was overjoyed and immediately shouted, "Seventh Platoon, keep firing! Don't give them a chance to catch their breath! Eighth Platoon, keep an eye on the other doors and windows!"

He pulled the bolt, the hot cartridge case ejected, and another bullet was pushed into the chamber.

On the other side, Sergeant Klaus, who was lying on the gentle slope of the river, watched Morin and the others' actions and was still somewhat puzzled as to why the new platoon leader was leading his men to guard this position himself.

Before he could figure it out, he saw some soldiers dressed in black 'Kingdom Army' uniforms rush out from the other buildings on the right side of the two-story farmhouse and run towards Morin and the others.

"All units, aim at the enemy in the direction of the farmhouse, open fire!"

A burst of gunfire erupted, and the soldiers Morin had positioned there used their precise and sustained rifle fire to rout the charging 'Kingdom Army' soldiers.

At that moment, Sergeant Klaus finally understood Morin's intention.

vision!

The location of this gentle slope of the riverbed is just right to bring the two-story farmhouse and several surrounding buildings into the field of fire. If the enemy were to launch an attack on Morin and his group, they would definitely have to pass right in front of their guns!

Therefore, as long as they remain here, it will be difficult for the enemies in the village to threaten Morin and his men's attack.

On the other side, Morin led two squads of soldiers and charged unimpeded to the edge of the farmhouse.

"Corporal Bowman, you and the 5th Platoon keep watch on the village! 6th Platoon, come with me, grenades ready!"

After giving the order to the last corporal, Morin rushed to the farmhouse gate and stood against the wall.

The soldiers of the 6th Platoon, along with two messengers who had always followed him, also followed suit and posted their orders on both sides of the gate.

"Throw a grenade through the second-floor window! And someone brave enough to throw one into the machine gun firing window!"

Two of the 6th squad members, who had even less rifle ammunition but carried four ball grenades, immediately threw the grenades through the second-floor window on Morin's orders.

One of the more skilled and daring soldiers peeked out from around the corner to make sure there were no enemies, then slipped to the bottom of the machine gun firing window, pulled the safety pin, and accurately threw a grenade inside.

"Boom! Boom! Boom!"

Several explosions rang out on the second floor of the farmhouse, and the red soldier tag representing the enemy machine gun position on Morin's minimap was marked with a red cross.

And the chilling roar of machine guns on the battlefield finally ceased.
