Chapter 78 The Foolish Basket Governor
Chapter 78 The Foolish Basket Governor
lavish and frenetic music echoed in the empty, luxurious bar, creating an absurd contrast with the deathly silence outside. Three people sat on high stools, savoring a fine wine that had been sealed away for centuries, the amber liquid reflecting a mesmerizing light in crystal glasses.
Just then, a series of heavy, dragging footsteps suddenly came from deep inside the bar.
The sound wasn't like human footsteps; it was more like something wet and heavy rhythmically pounding the ground. The liquid in the three people's glasses even rippled slightly with the vibration.
"Snapped!"
Almost simultaneously, the three men slammed their wine glasses down on the bar and gripped their laser guns, which were resting against the bar.
Sure enough, the next second, a deafening explosion rang out!
"boom--!"
The wall between the backstage and the bar, made of precious wood, crumbled instantly, as if struck head-on by an invisible battering ram! Countless wood chips and dust mixed with fragments of the wall formed a gray shockwave that swept towards the three of them.
Fortunately, the three reacted extremely quickly, rolling over the moment they heard the strange noise. The shockwave grazed past their helmets, and apart from some wood chips hitting their armor with dull thuds, they suffered no real damage.
However, under the special effects of the giant unicorn's tape recorder, "Bohemian Rhapsody," the smoke and dust that should have spread rapidly instead rolled and dissipated slowly to both sides like a stage curtain, in an exaggerated, cartoonish manner. When the intruder's appearance was finally clear, all three of them froze on the spot.
The giant unicorn exclaimed in a tone of utter disbelief, "Holy crap, this looks so bizarre!"
The monster was about two meters tall, its body twisted and grotesque, completely beyond the realm of normal creatures. Its main body was hollowed out, resembling a bizarre fishing net woven from countless blood-red and bluish-purple "threads." These "threads" writhed slightly, unconsciously evoking images of nerve bundles and blood vessel networks forcibly ripped from a living person's body.
This mangled skeleton, forcibly stretched and twisted by external force, was assembled into a gigantic harp dripping with viscous fluid. From the twitching "strings" and the human face stretched to its limit and blurred at the top of the frame, it can be determined that the person who made this "instrument"... is still alive throughout the entire process and even now.
Having played this game for so long, the three players were already used to firing at vital points like the enemy's heart. But faced with this sudden monster that had crawled out of their nightmares... they couldn't find any part that could be called a "vital point" for a moment.
With a tentative mindset, the moth casually fired two shots. The clumsy monster couldn't dodge them, and the two scorching laser beams hit precisely, instantly melting the two flesh threads on its "body".
What followed was not the scream of a flesh-and-blood creature, but a high-pitched, teeth-grinding scraping sound, like someone frantically scratching glass with fingernails, or the piercing wail of countless violin strings snapping simultaneously. This was probably the monster's scream.
“Oh,” the moth immediately realized, “it’s all show and no substance, all looks and no use.”
Fear stems from the unknown; once you see through the opponent's true strength, there's nothing to fear. The three players immediately aimed their guns at the monster, and a dozen laser beams formed a crisscrossing barrage, precisely covering its area.
The monster collapsed with a thud amidst increasingly piercing and high-pitched scraping sounds. Its strange, soft substance began to dissipate rapidly, like snow exposed to the scorching sun, releasing a bone-chilling cold in the process. A visible frost spread quickly across the floor from where it fell, freezing the surrounding air.
When the three players cautiously approached, there was no trace of the monster on the ground. Only an ordinary, broken harp with cracks all over its body lay quietly in the center of the frost.

[Note: Friedrich Peyton was Peditia's finest harpist, and he was always proud of his musical talent. Until one day, the governor invited a strange musician to perform, and the music was the most beautiful Friedrich had ever heard. Upon returning home, Friedrich found that all the pieces he played were unbearably jarring, so he decided to ask the musician for advice… and the musician readily agreed.]
“Now it seems that the situation of the upper nest and the top nest is quite clear,” Moth put away his gun, looked at the item description, and calmly speculated, “Governor Silly Basket invited a Slaanesh guy to perform... maybe a demon, or maybe something else, anyway, the result is what we see now.”
Moth turned its head and looked at the giant unicorn through the helmet visor: "Judging from the description, the reason it was brought out should be music."
So the giant unicorn hurriedly and clumsily turned off the recorder on its waist. The name couldn't help but complain, "The special effects on your recorder almost killed us! When this monster suddenly rushed in, everything was covered in dust, we couldn't see anything. There wouldn't have been so much dust."
The giant unicorn scratched the back of its helmet and smiled sheepishly: "I didn't know this monster only appeared because it heard music."
He thought for a moment, then asked, "But is it really definitely a Slaanesh? I think the Dark Eldar or something could also be one. They're highly skilled in art and love to torture their prey in all sorts of ways... and they've appeared in game background cinematics!"
“Yes, if that’s the case, then the Dark Eldar are indeed possible, and perhaps even more likely than the Slaanesh.” Moth first agreed with the Great Horned Beast’s words, then changed the subject and squatted down, “But you’ve overlooked one piece of information.”
He pointed to the lone harp on the ground: "Read the description carefully: [After returning home, Friedrich found that all the pieces he played were unbearably jarring]."
The name seemed thoughtful: "Pleasure threshold?"
“Yes, this is a method of the Slaanesh.” Moth stood up, her tone certain. “After enjoying a higher level of pleasure, trying something lower would feel like eating shit and drinking urine… even if, from a realistic point of view, the lower level is already a rare delicacy.”
"With this information, the Dark Eldar become an impossible option. Our enemy can only be the Slaanesh... we just don't know if they are demons or fallen space marines."
“Besides, we don’t know their location,” the great unicorn said, looking around the desolate city. “Upper Nest is so big, how are we supposed to find them?”
“No, we know,” Moth retorted, turning his gaze through the huge hole in the wall to the towering spire of the governor’s mansion in the distance, a symbol of the planet’s highest power. “Is it possible for a Slaanesh to be in a place other than the most luxurious, decadent, and desire-indulgent place?”
"That's right!" the giant unicorn exclaimed in realization.
“It’s time to report,” Moth said, opening the communicator. “Let’s first use massive firepower to destroy the Governor’s Mansion, then we can talk about other things.”
