Chapter 48 We can fight them all day long
The data stream briefly distorted in the air, and the figures of Nightingale and Silent solidified out of thin air beside their respective third squad leader.
After nearly twenty days of gameplay, the game planner with the ID "Bit" finally finalized the current resurrection rules on the official forum and pinned them as an update announcement: "[Dead players will resurrect next to their immediate superior officer. For example, a regular soldier will resurrect next to their squad leader, and a squad leader will resurrect next to their company commander.]"
The players then realized why they hadn't understood the resurrection rules for so long: because even the game designers hadn't figured them out yet, and the resurrection rules kept changing.
However, it's a good thing that things are now stable. The two resurrected scouts immediately reported everything they had discovered in great detail to Nguyen Van Bo. After listening, Nguyen Van Bo's face darkened, and he immediately ordered them to report their coordinates to the Fifth Squad via their walkie-talkies.
The fifth squad is the squad that is currently operating that bipedal flying dragon self-propelled mortar.
The sectarian wizard couldn't possibly die from the explosion of just two high-explosive grenades, but he would at least be injured, and his formation would inevitably fall into chaos. If he had been careless and remained in place, the wyvern's quadruple rapid-fire mortar might have sent him flying. Although mortar shells are expensive, the firepower fired is what matters, and now is clearly not the time to save money.
Upon receiving the order, the fifth squad immediately began operations. They skillfully referred to a hand-drawn firing table—thanks to the third squad, who were using the vehicle for the first time and had drawn a remarkably accurate table based on their experience, greatly reducing the learning curve for subsequent squads. After further improvements by later squads, this firing table had become a fully qualified professional tool.
The gunner quickly adjusted the mortar's elevation and traverse mechanisms, and the loader unhesitatingly loaded four shells into place before pulling the firing lever sharply.
"BOOM! BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!"
Four muffled cannon shots echoed through the passage, followed by a series of explosions in the distance. Ruan Wenbo immediately asked into the walkie-talkie, "What are the results?"
The fifth squad commander's voice quickly came through: "Reporting, Company Commander, we've earned over a hundred merit points and killed quite a few scoundrels, but we didn't see any kill notification for that cultist wizard in the system battle report... We're a step too late. Sigh, that damned No. 4 shell jammed a bit during reloading, otherwise we could have been three seconds faster!"
The commander added, "But speaking of which, one of my cunning thieves is worth about one merit point. This is after our three-person team splits the profits. In the end, one cunning thief can actually be worth about three merit points... which is four to five times that of those cultists in the lower nest."
“You’ve done very well,” Ruan Wenbo comforted. “It’s expected that you’ll receive a lot of merits for being cunning. In fact, I think you’ve given them too few—according to the original Warhammer books, their fighting spirit and organization are at least nine or even ten times that of ordinary cultists.”
Putting down the walkie-talkie, Ruan Wenbo watched the player ranks begin to advance again, lost in thought. The Genestealer Cult—a threat more insidious and deceptive than the Chaos Cult. They presented themselves as symbols of truth, packaging their distorted doctrines as liberation and freedom, precisely striking at what the Nest Workers desired most. The entire cult was united as one, firmly believing that they would extend this "great cause of liberation" throughout the universe.
Unfortunately, the Genestealers are no different in essence from the Chaos Cult and the upper-class nobility they despise. This too is a path leading humanity down the path of self-destruction. When their worshipped "Lords of the Void," the all-consuming Tyranids, descend, all liberation, freedom, and unity will be utterly devoured as biomass, leaving not a trace.
Ruan Wenbo clenched his fist and issued a command into the walkie-talkie.
"Forward! The dying must destroy them before they destroy more people!"
Players reacted enthusiastically, with various opinions echoing in the team chat.
"Wow! This massive battleground game even has pre-battle mobilization?" "Let's get this fired up! For humanity! For the Emperor!"
"Get out of my way, I'm going to grind for merit points! Each point is worth three! I can fight them all day long!"
Meanwhile, on the other side, in the gathering square that had just been ravaged by artillery fire, a figure calmly watched the scene before him engulfed in flames.
He was the cult wizard, Mas Kyle. The two players' self-destruction had indeed injured him, but he quickly recovered, ordering his cult members to extinguish the flames and collect the bodies.
He himself left the spot—his story about preparing for the celebration with the two players wasn't a lie. The old Kyle was a silver-tongued man, best known for lying. But since joining the cult and learning the truth, he no longer lied and treated everyone with sincerity.
After all, everyone will eventually fall into the arms of the Lord of the Void. At that time, everyone will be the same person, so why lie to yourself?
The hybrid aliens around him wore expressions of sorrow and pain, and many believers were kneeling on the ground, whispering prayers for their fallen brethren.
“There is no need for sorrow,” Kyle said softly, but his voice clearly pierced through the crackling flames and reached the ears of every believer. “They have merely freed their souls from the prison of their decaying bodies ahead of time. When the Lord of the Void arrives, they will join us in embracing that great will.”
A four-armed hybrid said bitterly beside Kyle, "Mentor! We sincerely invited them to join our great cause, yet they resorted to such despicable means to ambush us!"
“It’s alright,” Kyle said in an almost benevolent tone. “They rejected the path to liberation, and that is their loss. The coming of the Lord of the Void is an indisputable cosmic truth, which cannot be altered by the choices or will of any mortal.”
He opened his arms as if embracing the souls of his deceased compatriots.
"The Lord of the Void embraces all and treats all souls equally...whether base or noble; whether believer or unbeliever."
Kelton paused for a moment, then turned his gaze toward the direction from which the suicide squad had come, his eyes replacing the kindness with a cold fanaticism.
"However, the more people accept the faith, the less unnecessary suffering and resistance will occur when the Lord of the Void arrives."
"Fellow countrymen, let us act! Let us utterly destroy those stubborn unbelievers! So that more brothers and sisters may gain freedom and liberation!"
