Mystery: The Last Shepherd
Chapter 8 Blackthorn Security Company
Chapter 8 Blackthorn Security Company
After saying those words, Dunn got off the train, leaving Lu Ze standing there in a daze.
After regaining his senses, Luze carefully examined the details of his body. Sure enough, just as Dunn had said, his nails and hair had been meticulously trimmed. Sirius hadn't sent any servants to take care of them, and the original owner of this body was constantly insane, so it could only have been his sister who did it.
Looking at her clean nails, Lu Ze felt a warm feeling flow through his chest. He couldn't tell if it was the gratitude the original Lu Ze felt for his sister, or his appreciation for the beauty of humanity as a modern person—but whatever it was, it filled him with affection for that lovely and persistent little girl.
Once this incident is over, if I can still live with Cecilia, I must treat her well.
Lu Ze said to himself.
Looking up, he saw passengers disembarking from another carriage. The brown-eyed night watchman walked ahead, followed closely by Cecilia and the policewoman. Luze noticed that the young night watchman held a burning candle with great care, the candlelight flickering, and faint murmurs echoing around him.
"Klein, how are you?"
Dunn asked meaningfully.
“No problem,” Klein, with his brown eyes, replied, gently blowing out the candle.
When the candle went out, Cecilia jolted, looking around in surprise, as if she had been lost in thought and was only now realizing that she had gotten out of the car.
Sure enough, she was also checked in another car.
The policewoman who accompanied them got into the car and left. The two groups gathered together, and Dunn pushed open the door of Blackthorn Security Company and led them inside.
The first thing you see is a reception room furnished with classic sofas, upholstered chairs, and a light wood coffee table. A partition behind the furniture blocks the view into the distance. Directly opposite is a table, behind which sits a brown-haired girl, her head drooping, nodding off sleepily.
Are all night watchmen this lax? Anyway, it is indeed almost midnight.
Lu Ze thought to himself.
"Rosanne".
Seeing this, Dunn raised his voice and said with some helplessness.
"No! No, Captain!"
The brown-haired girl immediately woke up, her body stiffening like a spring. "I wasn't sleeping, I was just spacing out!"
No, no, no, girl, you haven't wiped the drool from the corner of your mouth.
Lu Ze thought to himself.
“Haha, that’s right, Captain, I can testify. Rosanne didn’t sleep; she just went for a stroll in the goddess’s kingdom, contemplating life,” Leonard teased with a smile, holding the peculiar badge in his hand. The girl named Rosanne glared at him, but he didn’t seem to care, still grinning.
"Alright. Go prepare some tea, and wipe your mouth while you're at it."
Dunn dismissed the girl, then turned to the other two team members, "You two go down to Charisgate and return [Goddess's Gaze] and [Silent Candle]."
"Ok."
Klein and Leonard exchanged a glance and responded, but their feet didn't move.
Dunn thought for a moment and then said:
"Also, Leonard, call out Luo Yao and Fry from the entertainment room."
"Yes."
The two nodded, but still didn't move.
Seeing this, Dunn frowned and rubbed his temples. "By the way, the Chanis Gate is too dangerous tonight. Let's not put those two sealed items in there yet. Let's leave them in my office until dawn."
Seeing how hard he was thinking, Klein and Leonard finally started moving. But after taking a few steps, they kept looking back, as if afraid Dunn would forget something again.
Are you that forgetful?
Luze and Cecilia exchanged a glance, both somewhat surprised. From the moment they met, the Night Watch captain had left them with an extremely deep and reliable impression. But that impression seemed to have faded slightly after their interaction.
"You guys sit down first."
Dunn, oblivious to the situation, gestured for the brother and sister to sit down. Just then, Rosanne, who had been dozing off, brought over some black tea. The teaware was exquisite and the tea leaves looked quite high-quality, but the two siblings were filled with unease, and even the finest tea couldn't taste its sweetness.
"Mr. Dunn, what should we do next?"
Lu Ze took the initiative to ask.
“Stay here and accept our protection.” After sitting down, Dunn subconsciously took out his pipe again. But seeing Cecilia sitting opposite him, he put the pipe back and took a sip of tea instead. “And we will move out immediately to arrest Sirius’s accomplices, interrogate him, and stop their madness until the matter is completely over.”
That's not what I'm asking. I want to know what will happen to me after this incident is over.
Lu Ze thought to himself, but since the other party didn't seem to have any intention of saying it now, he wisely refrained from asking any further questions.
After taking a few more sips of black tea, Leonard soon emerged from behind the partition with two other night watchmen.
“Leonard and Frye, come with me. Luo Yao, you stay here and protect our guests. Klein, are you going home? I can have the carriage take you along the way.”
Dunn quickly gave the instructions, stood up, put on his hat, and then asked Klein.
"No need, Captain. Catching the person is more important. If I go back now, I'll wake up my family," Klein said with a yawn. "I'll just lie down in the lounge for a while."
"Ah."
Dunn nodded and then said to Lu Ze, "You can talk to Luo Yao about anything. If any emergency occurs, you must listen to her."
Seeing that Lu Ze understood, he hurriedly left with two team members, leaving the Longdaoer siblings and Ms. Luo Yao staring at each other in place.
This was a woman who appeared very aloof, with long, smooth, jet-black hair, large eyes, and thin, long eyebrows. She didn't speak, but simply observed the brother and sister quietly, her gaze seemingly lingering a little longer on Lu Ze's face.
"Um, Ms. Luo Yao, good evening?"
"good evening."
Seeing Lu Ze greet her, Luo Yao nodded slightly and calmly said, "Let's go to the back; there's a lounge there."
"okay, thank you."
"follow me."
She turned and led the two of them behind the partition.
Lu Ze and his sister quickly followed. Before leaving, he looked back at the front desk and, sure enough, the brown-haired Rosanne was drooping her head and starting to doze off again.
Hopefully she won't be caught by Dunn when he returns.
Lu Ze thought to himself, and stepped behind the partition.
Behind the partition was a short corridor with about three offices on each side. Luo Yao led them into the second office on the left, which contained several sofa beds that looked very soft, and some newspapers piled on the table.
The night watchman named Klein had arrived earlier and was lying on one of the sofa beds. Seeing Luze enter, he smiled and nodded to the two of them.
Lu Ze responded with a smile.
"Please sit wherever you like. You can even take a nap if you're sleepy."
Luo Yao pointed to the sofa bed. She chose one to sit down first, then tidied her already smooth, jet-black hair, turned around and pulled a newspaper from the table, and started reading it by herself.
She seemed to have no intention of continuing the communication.
Lu Ze had originally intended to use this opportunity to extract some information, but seeing the other party's cold attitude, he gave up the idea. He looked at Cecilia beside him and asked her softly, "Are you sleepy?"
"not sleepy."
Cecilia whispered.
"Let's sit down for a while. Would you like to read the newspaper?"
Lu Ze asked, and seeing the other person shake their head, he simply picked up a newspaper from the table and glanced at the newspaper's title.
The "Tinggen City Serious People's Newspaper"—what a unique name!
I want to see what the respectable people in Tingen are concerned about.
With this thought in mind, Lu Ze picked up the newspaper. He suddenly regretted not bringing in the tea. After all, isn't it standard practice to drink tea while reading the newspaper? He lowered his head and began to browse casually.
The nation rejoiced and celebrated the complete repeal of the Corn Act.
At a dinner party, Baron Henry, the steel magnate of Tingen, publicly professed his love for Lady Sharon and got into a fight with three gentlemen.
A popular opera singer has been exposed for having a long-term affair with the opera house owner and his stepson.
Wow, this is the kind of news that respectable people would pay attention to; it's really exciting.
Klein lay down fully clothed, quietly resting with his eyes closed. Luo Yao flipped through the newspaper, occasionally glancing at Luze and Cecilia, seemingly diligently fulfilling his bodyguard duties. Cecilia sat leaning against Luze, initially a little uneasy, but soon began to doze off beside him.
Time passed slowly.
