Chapter 67 Lois Lane
Chapter 67 Louise Lane
Children's friendship is very pure. Sometimes they can quickly become familiar with each other without even a few words or a few games.
Clark awkwardly dodged a snowball thrown by Chloe and deliberately stumbled in the deep snow.
He bent down to roll a snowball, deliberately slowing down his movements and carefully controlling the strength to ensure that the snowball was soft and not a hard lump of ice. Then he aimed at Chloe and threw it back, and the snowball drew a normal arc.
perfect!
Clark breathed a sigh of relief.
He didn't want to hurt anyone, nor did he want no one to play with him anymore.
"Haha! I missed!"
Chloe laughed and jumped away nimbly, her golden brown hair dancing in the sunlight.
Clark laughed too, but his eyes couldn't help but glance at the quiet figure not far away.
Lois Lane, Chloe's cousin.
The girl did not join their snowball fight.
Instead, he stood alone on the undisturbed white snow a little further away, with his back to them and his head slightly lowered.
He seemed to be holding a small notebook and a pen in his hand, writing something in it intently. Occasionally he would raise his head and glance around sharply.
The farmhouse covered with thick snow, the pine forest in the distance bent by the snow, the crystal icicles under the eaves, and even Clark and Chloe who were playing snowballs, then he quickly lowered his head and continued to record.
But Clark felt that this scene was a bit...
strangeness.
Louise was obviously about the same age as them, but her focused and self-absorbed aura made her seem out of place.
This reminded him inexplicably of Dio.
Just as mature, just as oblivious to others.
"Chloe."
While Chloe was bending over to make a snowball, Clark pouted towards Lois and asked curiously in a low voice, "Your cousin...what is she doing? Isn't she playing with us?"
Chloe followed his gaze and shrugged.
"Oh, cousin Louise? She must be 'working'! She's in 9th grade now."
"Work?"
Clark was even more confused.
What jobs can minors have?
"Yup!"
Chloe straightened up and brushed the snow off her gloves, a mixture of admiration and a hint of helplessness on her face. "She's a reporter for their school newspaper! She's amazing! She carries her little notebook with her wherever she goes, and she wants to write down everything she sees. She talks about 'recording the truth' and 'finding stories.'"
She mimicked Louise's serious tone and made a face.
"She must think it's childish for us to play in the snow like this."
"I'm busy recording the scene after the snowstorm, and... well, what the home of 'Mr. God,' who saved my grandfather, looks like." As she spoke, she also opened her lively eyes wide and looked around at the snowy scenery and the Kent farmhouse. Her eyes sparkled with a similar light as Louise's, but more outgoing. "Honestly, this is cool! It's my goal too!"
"Your goal?"
Clark didn't understand.
"Become a reporter for the school newspaper!"
Chloe puffed out her chest, looking longingly:
"Just like Cousin Louise! Write down all the interesting and important things happening in school and town so that everyone can know!"
"School newspaper?"
Clark repeated the word, which was completely new to him, his blue eyes filled with confusion.
"What's that?" Chloe turned her head sharply, staring at Clark with wide eyes as if he were an alien, her mouth slightly agape.
"You...you don't know what a school newspaper is?!"
Her voice was filled with disbelief.
Clark was a little scared by her look and shook his head honestly:
"I don't know. Our school... Smallwell Elementary School, we don't have that thing."
"No?!"
Chloe's voice rose an octave, as if she had heard the most horrific news in the world.
The longing and vitality on her face disappeared in an instant, replaced by a grayness that was almost desperate.
"Smallwell Elementary School... doesn't have a school newspaper?!"
She seemed to have been devastated by this cruel reality. She stood there blankly, muttering to herself, "That... doesn't that mean... after this winter break, when I transfer here to study... I'm going to live without a school newspaper?!"
She imagined a future in which she would not be able to interview, write, or publish articles like her cousin Louise. She felt that her life had suddenly lost its meaning. She even forgot to throw away the snowball she had just made and dropped it on the ground.
Clark looked at her instantly fallen face and her dull eyes, feeling a little helpless.
He didn't know why the school newspaper was so important to Chloe, nor did he know how to comfort her. He just scratched his head and spoke awkwardly, "Uh... Actually, our school is pretty good. We have..."
but
Before he could finish his words, Chloe suddenly woke up from a nightmare and shook her head vigorously to get rid of the frustration.
She took a deep breath of cool air, her eyes refocused, and she regained her energetic look.
"never mind!"
She seemed to be cheering herself up, "If there's no school newspaper... then... then we'll talk about it later!"
Then, a cunning gleam flashed in her eyes, and while Clark was still trying to think of words of comfort, she suddenly threw the forgotten, slightly frozen snowball in her hand at Clark!
"Hey! Watch this! The 'Sadness Without a School Newspaper' bomb!"
"puff!"
The snowball hit Clark's chest hard, and the scattered snow even splashed on his face, making it cold.
"Ow!"
Clark yelled in cooperation, pretending to be beaten and taking a step back, but secretly relieved that Chloe had regained her energy.
He wiped the snow off his face and looked at Chloe, who was laughing triumphantly with her hands on her hips. He couldn't help laughing himself and temporarily put aside his doubts about the little adult Louise.
But this does not mean that others will not pay attention to him, because the girl who was writing and drawing not far away was already attracted by the movement here.
She raised her head and glanced at the two people playing together. Her gaze lingered for a moment on the boy's identical staggering movements every time he was hit by a snowball, and she frowned slightly.
From the moment she saw this country boy at the door, she felt that he...
A little different.
She couldn't tell exactly what was different, it was just a vague feeling, like an imperceptible undercurrent beneath the calm surface of the water.
"Sister, what are you looking at?"
Chloe, who was standing by, seemed to notice Lois and asked in confusion, "What are you looking at Clark for?"
Nodding, Louise hummed softly when she heard Chloe's question, but her eyes were fixed on him.
Still stuck on Clark.
Clark's cheeks flushed slightly, and he rubbed his gloved hands unconsciously.
Used to being an unassuming farm boy in Smallville, this sudden attention made him a little uncomfortable.
"Um. What happened to me?"
Subconsciously avoiding Lois's overly focused gaze, Clark was careful, his blue eyes looking particularly clear in the reflection of the snow.
