Super Magician: The Magic Network Collapsed Again at the Start
Chapter 60 No one can win all the time.
Chapter 60 No one can win forever.
The wind direction created by wind-making techniques is not exactly the same as the sea breeze, which wastes some wind power, but there is no other way. It is indeed easier to change the wind direction when no one is operating the sail.
The sea breeze is gentle tonight, which is good news. The Conch Ship only needed to accelerate slightly to leave its opponent far behind, and the distance between them was visibly increased.
Nearly two minutes passed, and just as the boat picked up speed, the wind gradually subsided.
The basic duration of the Wind-Making spell is one minute. Anser has higher charm, but he can only control it for less than two minutes.
However, spells are not so rigid. He does not need to recast the spell. He only needs to stay focused and maintain the spell while injecting magic power. A little magic power can extend the wind spell by several minutes, which is very cost-effective.
This time he tried to reduce the wind force and extend the duration. Although he needed to adjust the wind direction appropriately, the effect was much better than the first time.
However, several minutes passed, and the expected support did not materialize.
Ragnar's face turned grim. This was something she had personally arranged, and the executioners were all her trusted guards. She never expected to be betrayed.
"Maybe it was just an accident," Teach reassured her.
Ragnar remained silent. Once she returned, those people would surely have prepared a whole host of plausible reasons, but who could say for sure whether it was a genuine accident or just an excuse?
"Find a berth and anchor!" Anser looked at the row of dock lights not far away and felt that it would be better to berth directly, as waiting for a ship to pick them up might result in being blocked.
“Okay, let’s go over there.” Teach pointed to a large sailboat on the dock. The ship was about 60 or 70 meters long, with three decks and a towering mast. It was quite huge.
There are only two sailboats this big in the entire Silverscale Bay, which shows how rare they are.
The Conch Ship broke through the water and sailed away. A few minutes later, the dock berths and details of the large ship became clearly visible.
The watchman on the large ship was terrified when he saw the sailboat rushing towards him at high speed. He immediately rang the alarm bell, and the urgent sound of the bell echoed throughout the dock.
"Too fast, too fast..." Teach panicked a little.
He had no experience in berthing, but he knew that when approaching the dock, the boat speed had to be reduced to near zero, relying on inertia to drift over.
At this rate, the ship will inevitably be destroyed and everyone on board will perish.
Anser certainly knew, but he could stop it.
He first gradually reduced the wind force, then reversed the wind direction, causing the sails to billow in the opposite direction, and the speed of the sailboat to drop sharply, making the mast creak.
However, due to the angle of the sails, the boat did not decelerate in a straight line, but instead tilted, forming an angle with the dock.
Tichy breathed a sigh of relief and quickly turned the steering wheel to adjust the direction.
Once the bow of the ship approached the berth and the hull formed an acute angle with the dock, he decisively ordered Ragnar to drop anchor. As the anchor chain entered the water, the bow suddenly jerked, and the stern swung toward the dock, drifting and hitting the crash pads.
Canisa jumped off the dock, took the thick rope that Matthew threw to her, and struggled to hang it on the bollard.
First the stern, then the bow, and as the mooring lines tightened, the sailboat was steadily moored at the berth.
The pursuing slave ships circled around for a distance before quickly disappearing into the night.
They gave up!
"Just like that, you left?" Ragnar shrugged, looking puzzled.
“What else? Start a war? Look over there, whose ship is that?” Teach gestured with his chin forward.
Anser looked up and saw two flags hanging on the top of the ship's stern. The top one had a blue shield pattern with a silver crescent moon and its reflection in the center, surrounded by several silver stars below.
'Water Deep City!'
Deepwater is the largest city in Sword Coast, renowned for its unique political system, thriving trade, and rich legends. It is known as the "City of Glory" and the "Crown of the North," and boasts a powerful navy and famous griffin riders.
“This is a transport ship belonging to the Magath family, a noble family in Waterdeep. It was converted from a decommissioned naval vessel. Those slave traders wouldn’t dare fire it even if they had ten lives.” Teach’s lips curled up, his expression very confident.
“You’ve taken advantage of someone, so you’d better give a reasonable explanation.” Anser gestured towards him with his chin.
Lights lit up on the large ship, and teams of crew members rushed toward the "Conch" filled with corpses.
“Don’t worry, I know someone.” Teach jumped onto the dock and spoke with a man in a magnificent robe. A few minutes later, the crew began boarding the ship, clearing away the bodies and rescuing the civilians from the cabins.
Anser was somewhat surprised, but not too much of an anomaly. The Harpists' Alliance had a wide network of connections and a good reputation, and could often call for various forms of assistance.
“I knew it was you right away.” Ragnar walked up to him, a playful look on his face. “Why pretend to be me?”
Anser's disguise had worn off, so he put on his hood and said dismissively, "Your reputation is so widespread that people will be intimidated if we fight."
“Haha…” Ragnar suddenly burst into laughter, as if he really believed it.
Hearing the laughter, warrior Matthew and wanderer Kanissa also came over.
“Hey, I overheard something. Teach sold the boat, so…” Kanisa made a small money gesture and smiled in a somewhat lewd way.
He wasn't wearing a hood, and this was the first time Anser had seen his face. His features were quite ordinary, his skin was yellow, and his hair and pupils were also yellow. He was probably from some ethnic minority or of mixed race.
"What's it to you?" Ragnar's smile vanished, his expression turning cold. "Who was trying to run away just now? Trying to get a share of the money after turning the winch a few times?"
"Hehehe..." Matthew launched into a merciless taunt, his mouth twisted and his eyebrows raised, his expression perfectly conveying the intended meaning.
"Hmph, I'm going to get a share anyway," Kanisa retorted. "This isn't what we agreed on. I took extra risks and almost drowned at sea."
“You’re talking nonsense. You want it? Go talk to my axe.” Ragnar remained unmoved.
Kanisa immediately fell silent. They had worked together many times and knew Ragnar's character all too well. If she continued, she might actually grab an axe and chop him down.
Ragnar looked at Anser, his expression softening, and even his tone became much gentler: "You take the lion's share."
"Thank you." Anser felt a little uncomfortable; this woman's attitude was completely different during the day and at night.
“I live in Moonshadow Kuiling, please send my share over.” He waved his hand, picked up the package, and jumped onto the dock in a few steps.
There's no point in staying any longer. I might as well go home and get some sleep. That way, I can avoid Teach. The other guy's gaze is a bit ambiguous. What if he tries to recruit me?
Ultimately, his motives were driven by self-interest, while the Harpists' Alliance held a selfless and noble ideology; the two were simply not on the same page.
However, today's trip was worthwhile; I gained both experience and money.
However, the Conch Ship is a black market ship, and no one dares to buy it. The selling price is definitely much lower than the normal price. If several people split it, it's uncertain how much they will actually get.
Silverscale Bay was quiet at night; even Moonshadow and Kuiling had turned off their lights, with only a few lights on in the garden and foyer.
Anser walked through the garden and saw the treetops were completely dark in the distance, and he couldn't help but feel relieved.
'That's not right, I'm not a husband having an affair in the middle of the night, what am I afraid of her for?'
The main problem was that Gwyneth kept staring at him, which made him feel a little uncomfortable.
Upon entering the Mushroom House, he found the counter empty. His gaze swept across the small hall, and his expression froze instantly.
On a chaise lounge by the window, a girl lay bathed in moonlight, her head tilted to the side, her bright eyes gazing at him.
"Uh...are you sunbathing under the moon?"
Gwyneth stood up and came to him, sniffing him with a cold expression: "No one can win all the time. Once you lose, everything becomes meaningless."
She shoved Anser aside and hurried away.
Anser remained silent for a long time, watching her retreating figure.
To take control of your own destiny, you have to take some risks. Seeking comfort now will eventually lead to paying the price in the future.
