Chapter 42 Silverscale Bay
Chapter 42 Silverscale Bay
When the hands of the pocket watch pointed to seven, Anser and his two companions bid farewell to Amon and set off on their journey.
They really didn't want to camp in the wild anymore; Baldur's Gate had suddenly been struck by disaster, and all sorts of monsters and demons had come out, creating chaos.
At their pace, if they set off earlier, they could reach the west coast before sunset.
Anser sent Grayhawk ahead to scout the way; with it there, they wouldn't stray too far off course.
Around noon, they finally found the "road"—a winding path with tire tracks and footprints of people and animals, clearly indicating that it was frequently used.
After passing through a woodland, an endless cornfield stretched before us, waist-high, lush and vibrant.
Young and strong men patrol the fields with dogs, as the corn is still far from ripe and they are mainly worried about wild animals.
The arrival of the three men made the farmers wary, but when Anser took off his cloak, their hostility dissipated by most, and they answered almost every question.
This village is called Bullhorn Village. It has only a few dozen households and is the private property of the Baldur's Gate Stellman family.
If you continue west along this road for more than ten kilometers, you will reach Silverscale Bay, where the silverscale trout produced there are famous far and wide.
Anser and his companions decided not to rest, ate something quickly, and continued on their way.
Although the path was narrow, it was much easier to walk than the wilderness. After just over three hours, a large cluster of low-rise buildings appeared ahead, cluttering the view with a sense of civilization and everyday life.
Further out lies endless blue, where the sea and sky merge into one. In just one glance, it feels as if the whole world is contained within one's heart, and all the gloom is swept away.
A gentle sea breeze caressed my face, as soft as the hands of a shaman, making me feel relaxed and at ease.
"Whoosh-"
Blatt shouted and ran forward with his arms outstretched, as if to embrace the entire Sea of Swords.
Anser laughed heartily, patted the horse's back lightly, and Nornos galloped happily.
"Ugh—" Finn said with a bitter face, taking long strides to catch up.
As the road extends, the entire panorama of Yinlin Bay gradually comes into view.
This is a fishing town, situated at a low elevation, and stretching very long and narrow around an irregularly shaped crescent-shaped bay.
If Silverscale Bay is the eye, then Fishing Town is a sloppy eyebrow, thick and curved.
The town has no city walls, and there are many roads and entrances, but at each major intersection there are more than two guards who vigilantly watch over people coming and going.
Anser wasn't surprised. With such a big event happening at Baldur's Gate, it would be a waste not to be vigilant.
“Look over there, it looks like a refugee camp,” Blatt said, pointing to the clusters of tents on both sides of the road.
"Ah."
Anser removed his cloak, revealing his face, to avoid any misunderstanding.
The two guards glanced at him, their eyes lingering on Nornos for a moment, before making way for him from a distance.
Their primary responsibility is to guard against large groups of refugees and subterranean creatures, not to invite trouble.
The town was crowded with people, bustling and lively, so much so that it didn't feel like a town at all.
"Why are there so many people?" Blatt exclaimed in surprise.
Anser raised his staff and pointed to the bay, which was now obscured by buildings: "With the Baldur's Gate in trouble, the mouth of the Chongsa River must be congested with merchant ships. The surrounding ports and anchorages are probably all packed. It's normal for it to be crowded..."
"Even with so many people, I didn't see anyone go to help," Blatt said, scoffing.
Anser chuckled softly, "Didn't we escape too?"
“Uh, we’re different.” Blatt’s expression froze, somewhat unconvinced.
Just as he was about to organize his thoughts in rebuttal, a commotion broke out in the crowd ahead, with many people rushing towards the western port.
Anser seemed to hear the word "merman" and frowned.
"Follow me."
"it is good."
The town had many boats, nets, and fish, but few horses and livestock. Nornos was unusually tall and strangely shaped, and people avoided it wherever it went.
Seeing this, Blatt and his companion simply followed behind Nornos, which made things much easier.
The three followed the crowd to the dock area, which was unusually noisy and surrounded by many people.
Anser, standing on high ground, could see far and wide, and immediately noticed that the dock was littered with corpses. There were a few human bodies, but the rest were Koto fishmen, at least a dozen in total.
Its ugly appearance and dark purple skin made it hard to mistake. A wooden sailboat about thirty meters long was moored at the berth. Its hull was covered with scars and numerous repair marks, and patches of bloodstains had seeped into the wood.
"What kind of monster is this?"
"The Dragon Lake Fleet has suffered a setback..."
"Is the Chongsa River really blocked?"
"It's over..."
"..."
Anser listened to the noise around him and his heart actually calmed down.
This was all expected. Due to the information gap, many people have not yet realized the seriousness of the matter.
Actually, breaking through the blockade isn't difficult; all it takes is gathering armed ships from several factions. The real challenge is completely driving the fishmen back underground, otherwise the Chongsa River will never be peaceful.
He winked at Blatt and the other man, and the group left the crowd and returned to the much quieter street.
"Nornos is too conspicuous."
The holy emblem on his chest was burning hot, but his gaze was so chaotic that he could hardly discern its source.
He turned into a small alley, and when no one was around, he unloaded everything and then activated the Synergy Emblem.
Nornos glanced at him reluctantly, then stopped abruptly after taking a step, opened his backpack, grabbed the remaining few pounds of frozen crab meat, and leaped away, disappearing into thin air.
“Uh, this is hard to believe.” Anser twitched the corner of his mouth, seriously doubting Nornos’s motives for signing the contract with him.
He slung his backpack over his shoulder and waved, saying, "Let's go find a hotel."
"Where did Nornos go? Will he come back?" Blatt asked doubtfully.
"The Fairy Wilderness, it's a fairy, it's probably returned to its clan. It can come back anytime, don't worry."
The premise is that the Holy Symbol will not be lost, because neither Anser nor Nornos has the ability to open the fairy passage. The contract relationship is still in place, but they can no longer meet.
"That's so convenient."
"Is there a branch of the Watchers' Guild around here?"
"There should be."
Using her charm, Anser quickly learned about the town from a female clerk in a general store and successfully located the Watchers' Guild branch.
Unfortunately, the guild is very small and already overcrowded.
The three had no choice but to come to the largest inn in the north of the town: Moonshadow Kuiling. The name was typical of elves, and even the interior and exterior decorations of the inn were quite different.
Two six-story wooden houses sit in a large garden. One looks like a colorful mushroom, and the other is like a treehouse. They are covered with various plants and surrounded by lush flowers and grasses, making you feel like you are in a fairy tale world.
The three of them, like country bumpkins entering the city, stood in front of the primitive-style courtyard gate, stunned for a long time.
"Are you sure this isn't a private estate?" Blatt asked, looking surprised.
Anser looked up at the wooden sign above and the two human guards at the entrance, then pushed open the door and entered the garden first.
The location is probably fine; he's just worried about his wallet.
Sometimes being too charming isn't necessarily a good thing. Perhaps the female shop assistant genuinely thought that a "tall, rich, and handsome" guy like him should live in a place like this.
"Are you here for lodging or dining?" The doorman didn't move, and a waiter wearing a contrasting vest emerged from behind the greenery and walked up to them in a few steps.
"Accommodation." Anser took off his hood, wondering to himself whether his face would be of any use.
"Gentlemen, please follow me." The waiter led the three to the counter of the Mushroom House and then left.
Behind the counter sat a female elf with long silver hair, her beautiful blue eyes constantly scrutinizing Anser.
"You've come at just the right time. There are only two rooms left, each accommodating a maximum of two people." Her voice was soft, with a hint of a smile in her eyes.
Anser didn't look at her, but stared intently through the glass window at a familiar figure in the garden.
'Guess!'
The first teaching assistant who betrayed the original owner and stole his mentor Fabian's personal belongings.
