Chapter 33 Something’s wrong with you
Nornos's intelligence is not high, but that is in comparison to humans.

Its intelligence is roughly equivalent to that of a 10-year-old child, and it is also very clever, so it doesn't need Anser's command at all.

Anser was happy to have some peace and quiet and quietly brought up Nornos's character card.

This is what makes Nornos so special – it has individual character cards on the dice!

'With experience and a level, can I level up?' He stroked the stubble on his chin, lost in thought.

He tried to give Nornos some experience, but the character card didn't budge.

There are definitely differences.

After several attempts, he still had no clue and had to give up for the time being and focus on continuing his journey.

The weather was hot and the roads were difficult to travel. He was afraid of tiring Nornos, so he stopped to rest many times.

They also used cryogenic rays to create ice blocks, which were then wrapped in waterproof cloth to help cool everyone down.

Nornos is a fairy who can draw energy from magic or the spirits of nature. She doesn't have high requirements for food, but she also gets tired and needs to rest and eat properly.

At lunchtime, it developed a liking for raw crab meat, devouring over ten pounds of it, and its gaze towards Finn became much more affectionate.

After Anser fed it its first ice cube, it fell in love with ice cubes.

While traveling, Anser had to feed it a few pieces every now and then.

When the person and the horse interact, neither feels tired, and time flies by.

The wilderness was vast. At first, you could see waves of refugees and scattered corpses, but the further you went, the fewer people there were, and by the afternoon, you could hardly see anyone at all.

After most of the day, Blatt and his companion were exhausted and listless, while Anser and Nornos remained energetic throughout.

He wasn't tired from riding the horse, and after escaping a life-or-death crisis, everything seemed interesting.

Unseen plants and flowers, unfamiliar beasts and birds, unique natural scenery...

He had only been in this world for a few days, and was filled with novelty, not finding it boring at all.

Blatt looked at the sun, which was no longer glaring, and asked listlessly, "How far is it to the west coast?"

"More than halfway there, at most twenty miles left," Anser guessed.

The "li" he mentioned is a unit of distance in Phrygia, and twenty li is roughly thirty-two kilometers.

Baldur's Gate is a natural bay, about 60 or 70 kilometers from the estuary, and it takes more than ten hours to reach it by medium-sized sailboat.

Blatt pointed to a patch of greenery to the south and asked, "Have we gone astray? Is that the Cloak Forest?"

“It might be an extension of the Cloak Forest,” Anser said, pulling out a map, not entirely sure.

"I should have stayed in the village ahead," Blatt said with some regret. They had seen two villages along the way but hadn't stopped.

“There’s a village ahead called… Giant Red Deer Village,” Anser said, pointing to the map.

“Hmm.” Finn nodded, and Grayhawk saw it too.

"How far?" Blatt's spirits lifted.

"That was the woodland in the past."

"Walk."

Following the gray eagle's guidance, the group walked southwest for more than ten minutes, passing through a sparse woodland, and a village appeared ahead, with about a few dozen households.

“The terrain is good,” Blatt commented.

This area is flat and dry, with no standing water, and the ground has clearly been hardened, making it a great place to rest.

"Why is there no one here?" Anser frowned slightly; it was unusually quiet here.

"Is this an abandoned village?" Blatt carefully examined the dilapidated and collapsed buildings.

“Look,” Anser shook his head, pointing to the messy traces, footprints and tire tracks around him, “It could be an abandoned village, but many people must have been here.”

Finn squatted down and observed for a moment, then affirmed, "There are new ones, old ones, and some from today."

“They might be refugees,” Blatt speculated. “After all, the village is on the map.”

Anser looked at Finn beside him: "Are there any monsters or wild beasts around?" "No monsters, no large wild beasts," Finn shook his head.

"Go in and have a look."

Anser and his companions roused themselves and entered the deserted village in battle formation.

However, apart from the mess and dust everywhere, there were no corpses or other random things.

But for some reason, Anser always felt uneasy.

Just as we ventured deeper into the village, a dark head peered out of the window of a wooden house in the distance, with a long snout, curved horns, and black scales...

The group was taken aback and immediately assumed fighting stances.

“It seems to be a dragon descendant,” Blatt reminded him.

There are also many Dragonborn in Baldur's Gate, and everyone has seen them. However, their appearance is so different from humans that their sudden appearance can be quite startling.

At that moment, the door of the wooden house opened, and several people came out. Apart from the black dragon descendant, the others were all humans.

These people were all armed and clad in armor, primarily studded leather armor, with similar colors and styles, but there seemed to be no spellcasters among them.

The holy emblem hidden in Anser's bosom suddenly became burning hot. His heart tightened, and he immediately gave the two of them a wink, signaling them to be careful.

Perhaps fearing they might misunderstand, the black dragon descendant walked over empty-handed, while the others remained where they were.

"Hello." The Dragonborn's voice was like the clash of metal, deep and powerful, with the last note like thunder.

He looked Anser and Nornos up and down, his eyes wide with surprise: "We're from Alaron, on our way to Baldur's Gate, and we're resting here temporarily. Did you come from Baldur's Gate? We heard there was trouble there, how is it now?"

Alaron is the largest island in the Moonshadow Isles, facing Baldur's Gate across the sea.

Anser remained calm: "The river breached last night, and the Livington area was flooded. We left in a hurry and don't know the current situation."

"I see." The Black Dragonborn's eyes darted around, his lizard-like face revealing little emotion. "I heard that Baldur's Gate collapsed, revealing a large number of subterranean creatures. Is that true?"

"I've heard about it, but I haven't seen it myself, so I wouldn't dare to say anything." Anser smiled faintly, still pretending to be confused.

During the brief exchange, he had already discerned the other person's true intentions:
[Ammun's elite, Dragonborn, Level 3 Barbarian (Berserker)]

Clearly, the other party lied!

The Black Dragonborn kept getting turned away by Anser, knowing full well that he was deliberately keeping quiet, but there was nothing they could do.

He casually glanced around, then pointed to the house behind him and said, "We'll stay in this wooden house. The other houses are all empty. You can choose one yourself."

With that, he waved and turned to leave.

Anser squinted. He wanted to check more information about other people, but he didn't expect them to leave so quickly and decisively.

“Let’s go too.” Anser waved his hand, and Nornos strode off onto another village road.

The group walked briskly, crossing the village without stopping.

“That dragonborn’s accent is off; it sounds like he’s from Amn,” Blatt mused.

"How did you make that judgment?" Anser slowed his pace. He knew that Blatt's hometown was on Dragon Coast, which was not close to Amn.

“I’ve been there. Am is wealthy, but unfortunately, everything costs a fortune.” Blatt shook his head regretfully.

“You’re very perceptive,” Anser praised. “Neither the people nor the place are right; we shouldn’t camp here.”

“That’s what I think too,” Blatt replied.

“Hmm,” Finn agreed.

After leaving the village, you are greeted by a lake of moderate size, its surface shimmering in the sunlight, surrounded by lush vegetation, a truly beautiful sight.

Anser discovered that the land around the lake showed obvious signs of cultivation, but had been abandoned for some unknown reason.

The group walked around the north bank of the lake, crossed a high grassy slope, and suddenly a temporary camp appeared before them.

Twenty or thirty tents were scattered along the lakeside, and dozens of people were busy at work. Some were clearing land, some were fishing, and some children and the elderly were playing.
