Doomsday America

Chapter 91 Don't Let Your Determination Fail

Chapter 91 Don't Let Your Determination Fail
Seeing that Steve was about to walk away, Madison quickly followed and called out.

"Together we will."

"it is good."

Upon hearing this, Steve nodded and smiled.

"Although I can manage on my own, I wouldn't mind having a strong guy to help me. Come on."

"Okay, but I need to talk to the boss first."

As Madison got into the car, he pressed the intercom button and spoke.

"Boss, this is Madison. Steve and I are going to the farm to get some hay."

"Go ahead, I'll be at the farm in a minute."

Gavin responded.

After receiving a response, the two got into their car and headed towards the racecourse. They had only been gone for half a minute when they met Gavin's Raptor.

Gavin rolled down the car window and waved to Steve, who responded with a thumbs-up.

The two cars passed each other, and Gavin returned to the garage door, got out, and started carrying books while speaking to the people who had gathered around him.

"Please do me a favor and deliver the weapons to the armory and the books to the library and study."

As soon as he finished speaking, even William came over to help carry two weapons into the manor.

After the pickup truck was emptied, Eugene lifted the felt cloth, walked downstream along the river, rinsed it briefly in the river, and then laid it on the grassland and weighed it down with wooden stakes.

While Gavin drove the car into the garage, Steve and his companion carried hay and fodder and distributed it to the cattle and horses.

By this time, the sun had completely disappeared, and the grassland was shrouded in darkness.

After delivering the last book, Gavin stood silently in front of the makeshift cattle pen, gazing absently at the cattle inside.

Seeing this, Steve came to Gavin's side and asked him with a smile.

"Brother, what are you thinking about? Are you, like me, looking at this mere pen with a few dozen cows and longing for the vast herds of cattle that once filled the pastures?"

"No, I was just thinking about this afternoon when you inexplicably left the team to become a hero."

Gavin turned to Steve and teased him.

Upon hearing this, Steve rolled his eyes, and his face turned even redder.

"What the hell."

He took off his hat dejectedly, rubbed his messy hair, shook his head and smiled bitterly.

"I did something really stupid this afternoon."

"But he was very brave, though he was also incredibly stupid, so this is the last time."

Gavin put his arm around Steve's shoulder and led him toward the manor.

As darkness fell, Winnie temporarily put aside the remaining bloodstains and decided to go home.

However, Gavin was still outside, so everyone simply gathered at the entrance and watched him approach from a distance.

Seeing that everyone was blocking the doorway, Gavin smiled and urged them on.

"What are you all doing here? Isn't anyone in a hurry to eat?"

"Doris had already prepared the food, but we thought we should wait for you a while."

As Winnie responded, she tried to take Gavin's gun.

Just then, old Bert's voice came through the walkie-talkies on everyone's waists.

"Hey guys, look towards the forest."

"I just got up from the sofa and couldn't resist watching the sunset. Guess what I saw with this telescope? Another human figure!"

As soon as he finished speaking, old Bert, sitting on the second floor, knocked on the French windows.

Of course, no one heard him knocking on the glass, and besides, no one was paying attention to it anyway.

Everyone carrying binoculars was eager to peer into the forest.

After exchanging glances and searching for the figure, Gavin was the first to spot the target and said softly.

"At the three o'clock position, near the river, there is only one figure."

"I saw it, damn it, that's definitely not a living person!"

Eugene followed Gavin's directions to confirm the target, but the target was too far away. Through their binoculars, they could only see a vague, staggering figure.

Madison paused for a moment, then asked.

"You mean, if that person were alive, he would at least walk towards our lights, right?"

"Of course, Old Mike, you really understand me. We're a match made in heaven, haha~"

Eugene laughed and gave Old Man a high five. Then he reached into the Raptor, pulled out the TAC, propped it up in the pickup truck bed, and aimed at the figures in the distance.

"Boss, should we take him out?"

"No, let's lure him over."

Gavin answered quickly, his words catching everyone off guard. But before the members, who were still wondering, could ask Gavin why he had attracted the zombies, Eugene decisively opened fire.

boom!
With a loud gunshot, the bullet traveled at supersonic speed, hurtling towards the figure.

A few seconds later…

The figure in the telescope suddenly moved, running quickly towards the manor.

At the same time, Eugene put away his TAC and laughed.

"You've probably never heard the sound of a supersonic bullet flying overhead. How can I describe it? It's like a stupid parrot whistling as it flies by in the sky."

"The sound wasn't particularly loud, but it was very clear. It seemed to be related to the penetrating power of the sound, but I don't really understand it."

"All I know is that after I fire a shot, even though he'll be too far away to hear the muzzle of my gun, he should be able to follow the sound of the bullet and rush towards where it came from."

"As it turns out, I was lucky. That guy really did run this way. Tsk tsk, he's really fast!"

"Boss, I did a great job, right?"

Eugene laughed and boasted to Gavin, who shook his head in response.

"Actually, I would prefer that you don't shoot, but instead bring him here on horseback."

"Is that so? Well, it's not too late now. I'll go and lure him over."

As he spoke, Eugene drew his pistol and walked toward his warhorse.

As Eugene walked further and further away, Winnie, standing beside Gavin, suddenly stepped forward, drew the pistol from her waist, and spoke to Gavin.

"Boss, I can do it! Let me go first!"

Upon hearing Winnie's words, Gavin was slightly taken aback and quickly asked Winnie.

"Wait, kid, what can you do? What's with being the first one here? And what's with that determined look on your face?"

Faced with Gavin's question, Winnie gritted her teeth and said resolutely.

"Boss, you encountered a living zombie, and then you lured it to our vicinity. Isn't that just to test the courage of us support staff?"

"So let me go first, I'm fine. I secretly went to the indoor shooting range this morning and afternoon to practice shooting for more than ten minutes each time, I..."

"William!!!"

Upon hearing Winnie's words, Gavin suddenly grabbed Winnie's head, interrupting her, and at the same time, growled at William.

"You knew nothing about that kid secretly going to the shooting range to practice shooting?!"

"I...uh...sorry, boss..."

William glanced at Winnie helplessly, then lowered his head in frustration.

Seeing that William was indeed unaware, Gavin raised his hand and slapped Winnie on the head.

While Winnie was still dazed from being hit on the head, Gavin grabbed Winnie's gun and began to examine it.

"Good, the safety's still on, and the bullets are full. This kid didn't just stupidly put his finger on the trigger when he was holding the gun." Having confirmed these key points, Gavin handed the gun to the flustered Winnie with a gruff expression, then tapped her on the head and said...

"Next time I want to practice shooting, I'll find a professional to go with me!"

"Even disregarding safety issues, having professionals correct your incorrect posture and habits from the very beginning of your shooting practice will improve your marksmanship much faster, kid!"

Gavin didn't say anything about you having to listen to adults.

Or they might say something like, "Don't do such a stupid thing."

He was young once, and he knows what young people don't like to hear.

Of course, all of this is based on the premise that Winnie's method of using the gun was indeed correct.

If Winnie's gun was off safety as soon as she drew it, or if she even accidentally discharged it, Gavin would have had a completely different way of beating her up.

Now, Winnie raised her head and looked at Gavin with fear.

After confirming that she hadn't heard any terrible scolding from Gavin, she couldn't help but feel a lump in her throat, but she didn't dare to look at Gavin again.

So she shrank back and looked apologetically at William.

William shook his head at Winnie, indicating that he was fine.

Winnie then mustered up her courage and looked up into Gavin's eyes.

Before Winnie could speak, Gavin ruffled her hair and explained softly.

"There are many reasons why I wanted to let the zombies over."

"On the one hand, I don't want us to accidentally kill survivors because of distance and lighting issues."

"What if he can't see the light because he has night blindness?"

"As for his seemingly unsteady figure, could it be that he sprained his ankle like William?"

"Aha, I understand what you mean!"

Bella, who was standing nearby, suddenly seemed to realize something when Gavin mentioned this.

"Just like that bitch in The Walking Dead who almost accidentally killed Daryl, who was seriously injured and on his way home, right!"

"I'm a big fan of Daryl, and I really wanted to shoot the TV and blow up her slutty ass... uh... cough cough, sorry, I interrupted."

Bella was speaking when everyone turned to look at her, and their stares made her awkwardly stop talking.

Seeing that Bella had stopped talking, Gavin clapped his hands with amusement.

“You could have continued talking, then I would have had to explain less.”

“That’s right, just as you said. Our judgment, made from several kilometers away, can hardly be called 100% accurate.”

"But besides that, I had another idea for having Eugene lure him over."

"I want to catch a live zombie, tie him up like a mummy, and lock him up to see how long a zombie can survive when it is unable to move and lacks water and sunlight!"

"This might take a long time, but the importance of this information makes it worth our time. What do you think?"

At this point, Gavin glanced around at everyone.

Meeting Gavin's gaze, everyone looked at each other.

Then, Eugene gave a thumbs-up from afar.

"You really have one trick up your sleeve after another. I like this decision!"

But Steve spoke up almost simultaneously.

"Brother, I think we should send the zombie to its death. It's too dangerous to keep it around here. As for observing the zombie, we'll see it during our patrols and explorations!"

After they finished speaking, they couldn't help but look at each other.

Seeing Eugene and Steve fall silent, Madison turned to Gavin and asked.

"Boss, I'll listen to you."

"That's right, we'll listen to the boss!"

Winnie responded loudly to Madison, and also said to Steve.

“Uncle Cowboy, none of us are afraid of danger, because we’ve already experienced far more dangerous things.”

“Winnie is right!”

Bella, agreeing with Winnie, added her own comment.

"When I was being chased by zombies on the ship, it was much more dangerous than this. If my sweetheart dad hadn't been pounced on by a zombie first, I would have..."

"Wait, what dad? Didn't you say your boyfriend got eaten by a zombie first?!"

Before Bella could finish speaking, Eugene immediately glared at her and yelled.

Faced with Eugene's questioning, Bella was stunned, then quickly changed her tune.

"I misspoke, it's boyfriend, boyfriend!"

"You son of a bitch boyfriend, do you dare say how old your boyfriend is? I finally understand why you college student have that worldly air about you and why you keep spouting that damn old white guy nonsense. I've caught you red-handed!"

Eugene, riding on horseback, roared at Bella with a loud laugh, leaving her completely stunned.

When she looked at everyone again, she felt as if she had been stripped naked and was standing there!
The feeling sent chills down Bella's spine, so she bit her lip and, feeling the pain, yelled at Eugene!
"Yes, I am the kind of bitch you're talking about, so what!"

“My dad died when I was two years old, and my mom was secretly smoking. I grew up in this damn environment. Can you guess how I was going to earn my college tuition and how I was going to get recommendation letters from top universities!”

"I'm not a warthai, I'm just a fair-skinned Latina girl. If I can't rely on myself, what can I rely on? You sitting on horseback making sarcastic remarks, you piece of shit white man!"

"Bella."

Upon hearing this, Gavin knew he had to step forward.

He took two steps forward, blocking Bella's view of Eugene and preventing her from glaring at him.

Then, Gavin reached out and ruffled Bella's hair while speaking to Eugene from a distance.

"Eugene, that zombie is veering off course; we need to adjust it."

"I know, screw it... Tell her I didn't mean it that way, I'm a son of a bitch myself... How can a son of a bitch laugh at someone else for being a son of a bitch? I am... Fuck... Do whatever you want!"

Eugene had mentally prepared himself, but he still couldn't bring himself to say what he wanted to say. He rode his horse all the way to the vicinity of the zombies, then turned the horse around and galloped back towards the manor.

As he attracted the zombies, Gavin released Bella and whispered words of advice.

"Everyone standing here is someone whose past has been taken away by the apocalypse, Bella, you are no exception."

“I know, thank you. I’m not actually that angry. I’m just… well, I’m not angry at Eugene. After all, even though he’s a jerk, he’s telling the truth.”

Bella muttered something to Gavin while looking down.

Upon hearing this, Gavin took a deep breath, then patted Bella on the back and said.

"Alright, the zombies are getting closer and closer."

"Even if I were to raise a zombie for experiments, it wouldn't necessarily have to be this one."

"Compared to keeping a zombie alive, I think I should respond to Winnie's first decision."

“Winnie, didn’t you want to try out the gun? Let Bella protect you as you go over and give it a shot. Let me see if you can give me a surprise.”

"Most importantly, don't let your first decision fall through."

"Really?!"

Upon hearing Gavin's words, Winnie finally revealed the genuine joy that a child should have.

She jumped up and grabbed Bella, pulling her towards the zombies while excitedly talking.

"Please help me! If a zombie gets really close and I still haven't hit its head, you have to protect me, Bella!"

"No problem, I've practiced shooting, with... ha, with my boyfriend who's over fifty!"

At this moment, after Bella responded generously to Winnie, she felt as if a burden had been lifted, and she smiled as she stood with Winnie at the edge of the old manor, waiting for the zombies to approach.

Meanwhile, Gavin and his group followed behind them. Gavin and Steve both had their hands on the Colt Python, ready to fire at any moment.
