Chapter 10 Let me borrow the Tyrannosaurus Rex
The window structure in the guest bedroom is roughly the same as in most villas.
The window is divided into three sections: the left and right sections are narrower, while the middle section is a huge pane of glass.
To push the middle glass open, you need to turn on the switch at the head of the bed to lift it up electrically.
The windows in the smaller areas on both sides can be accessed manually.
Apart from the window itself, the view outside is the backyard of the manor, and twelve or thirteen meters directly below is the still-blood-stained swimming pool.
The dirty guy who had been playing in the pool has disappeared, leaving only a few water streaks leading to the parking lot.
After crossing the pool, there was a wide shooting range where they had practiced shooting yesterday afternoon. The range was equipped with disc launchers and tracks for moving targets.
Outside the shooting range is a forest area that connects to the manor, which is a reasonable plan to avoid injuring innocent people during shooting.
After assessing the surroundings outside the manor, Gavin leaned closer to the window and looked to the left for the horde of zombies.
At this moment, the horde of zombies was positioned at the far left edge of Madison's view from his room.
The backyard lights were dimmer than those in the garden and parking lot. Gavin squinted, carefully assessing the distance.
After roughly drawing a conclusion, he straightened up and reached out to touch the window hinge at the edge.
After carefully stroking the shaft twice to check its lubrication and condition, Gavin slowly pushed open the window.
I tried pushing it open a little, and the window opened and closed very smoothly without making a sound.
At this point, Gavin turned to look at Madison and then made a zipping motion over his mouth.
Madison nodded knowingly, while Gavin continued to open the window until it was wide open.
Seeing this, Madison stepped forward, raised his hand to hold the window to prevent him from accidentally retreating, and handed the bottle of wine in his hand to Gavin.
The two bottles were different models. Gavin weighed them in his hand to feel their weight, then silently looked at the third target from the left in the shooting range.
Aim and throw.
The bottle flew swiftly through the night, then struck the target precisely, shattering with a crisp sound.
Especially in an open firing range, the sound of breaking is much clearer than in a parking lot.
Madison quickly raised his hand and gave Gavin a thumbs up.
Gavin didn't even look at him. Instead, he glanced at his watch and then pressed his face against the glass, staring intently at the horde of zombies.
Based on his assessment, with the obstacles significantly reduced, it would take the zombie horde approximately eleven to twelve seconds to cross the eighty-odd meters.
But Gavin discovered that when the horde of zombies left the parking lot, they lingered for a while at the shooting range fence.
Only a very small number of zombies at the front jumped over the fence with a single leap; the rest of the zombies crashed into the wall and scrambled over it.
When the zombie horde finally began to form a human pyramid at the third target position on the left, Gavin looked down at his watch and found that fifteen seconds had passed.
Therefore, Gavin set his sights on the range fence.
After a moment, Gavin understood, because the height of the shooting range fence was about 160 centimeters, which could effectively prevent wild boars from the forest from rushing into the shooting range.
The front and rear height of most sedans is around 140cm, while SUVs are higher and sports cars are lower.
Gavin thus firmly remembered this 20-centimeter height difference and decided that when planning any escape route in the future, he must keep a height of 160 cm or more in mind and apply it to obstacle selection.
Then, without saying a word, he walked towards the door, picking up a wine bottle along the way.
After leaving the room, as usual, they hugged the wall to avoid the zombies at the food delivery area on the first floor, and the two went to the terrace at the end of the villa's shooting range.
This time, Madison also stood on the terrace, gazing absently at the gloomy night.
Gavin judged the distance well, smashed a bottle, and then enjoyed the spectacular scene of hundreds of corpses running rampant.
Time passed slowly, and when the zombies finally began to spread and patrol the target location, Gavin waved and led Madison back to the corridor.
As Gavin walked, he seemed to hear something, so he turned around and glanced back.
The subtle noise came from Madison's slightly trembling mouth.
He didn't say anything, but continued walking until he reached the side door of the parking lot, where he patted Madison on the shoulder.
"Come on, buddy, let me drive your Tyrannosaurus Rex. I've never driven a pickup truck like this before."
As soon as he finished speaking, he reached out his hand to Madison.
Given Madison's current level of tension, Gavin has no intention of handing over the steering wheel and his life to him.
Seeing this, Madison was slightly taken aback, and instinctively reached for his keys while asking, "Didn't we agree that I would drive? That's my beloved car, and besides, you should take a break. I've been relying on you the whole time."
"Alright, why bother with all that? I'm going home to rest now."
"Since you live far away in Chicago, I'll have to pray you don't have a problem sleeping in that particular bed, haha~"
Gavin chuckled and casually patted Madison on the shoulder.
Seeing that Madison was still in a daze, Gavin grabbed his arm and continued.
"I haven't called home yet. After you get on the bus, could you call home for me a few times?"
"Can you believe it? Actually, it's not that I don't want to fight, it's that I'm afraid to."
"what?"
Upon hearing Gavin's words, Madison paused slightly and looked at Gavin with suspicion.
"You have moments of cowardice too?"
"Of course, when Charlie Sheen was exposed to have AIDS, I was almost scared to death."
Gavin made a sarcastic remark, which made Madison's eyes widen in suspicion.
Madison asked in astonishment.
"Wait, what did you say? Charlie Sheen was exposed for having AIDS? When did that happen? I've never heard of it!"
"Impossible, absolutely impossible. How could I not know about such big news? Are you kidding me, you piece of shit?"
Just as Madison finished speaking, Gavin reached out and snatched the key from Madison's hand.
Realizing his left hand was empty, he instinctively grabbed at it twice, then wiped his sweaty hands with his pants, and brandished the military knife in his right hand twice as he spoke.
"Gavin, are you telling the truth? Is Charlie Sheen really in love?"
"Who knows? I've only heard about it."
Gavin gave a perfunctory reply.
The revelation that Charlie Sheen was actually in love should have happened in 2015, which was only 13 years ago.
Gavin said this simply to ease Madison's tension.
Seeing that Madison's condition had improved and his breathing had calmed down a bit, Gavin put his hand on the door and said softly.
"Alright, stop thinking about all that nonsense. Even if Charlie Sheen hadn't gotten A, she would have turned into a real zombie by now."
"Back to our plan, I just took a look and there are no zombies in the parking lot. Their sensitivity to sound has become their weakness."
"Stay close to me for a bit. We're not going to do anything unnecessary. Let's just drive away from this shitty villa!"
"Buddy, enjoy the sound of the Tyrannosaurus Rex's engine!"
As soon as he finished speaking, Gavin deftly opened the door and crouched down as he moved toward the stairs.
Madison, who had just relaxed a little, immediately felt tense again as she walked down the stairs.
After Gavin left the stairs, crouched down and walked into the garden area, using the bushes as cover, he moved towards the parking lot.
Madison's teeth started chattering slightly again.
However, Gavin didn't have time to pay attention to him. Right now, Gavin only had his surroundings and that Dodge Tyrannosaurus Rex in his eyes!
The Tyrannosaurus Rex was located in the middle of the parking lot, quite far from the exit.
But this location is actually closer to the villa.
After passing through the garden area and only two rows of cars, Gavin arrived in front of the Tyrannosaurus Rex.
Although Madison was nervous, he instinctively walked around Gavin and stopped in front of the passenger door as Gavin stopped.
Gavin glanced at his watch, then pressed the car key. The Tyrannosaurus Rex's headlights instantly lit up, accompanied by two not-so-harsh unlocking sounds.
As the headlights came on, Gavin yanked open the car door, threw the large backpack wrapped in rope and his military knife into the back seat, then jumped into the driver's seat and started the car as fast as he could.
As the Tyrannosaurus Rex's engine began to rev, Madison had already taken his seat in the passenger seat, turned around, and was gripping the back of the seat, staring intently out the rear window.
Even though his teeth were chattering, even though his hands were gripping the back of the chair, even though cold sweat was trickling down to the corners of his eyes, he still stared intently in the direction the zombies might be coming from.
While Madison observed the situation, Gavin lightly pressed the accelerator.
