Chapter 28 Girl
Durant certainly couldn't understand it.

In Rhodes's view, anyone who can survive alone outside the town is definitely not an ordinary person; they might even be a skilled hunter like Raine.

Rhodes had even already thought about what to say to get the other party to join Frostleaf Town, and what to promise.

But now he was bitten to death by a black bear!
Everything I planned is gone!

This feeling of being out of control drove Rhodes crazy, yet he was powerless to do anything about it.

Even if we take a step back and assume he's an ordinary person, Rhodes would never want to see such a scene.

Even if this person doesn't live in Frostleaf Town, even if his residence here is illegal, he is still a citizen of Rhodes!
It's not even a black bear's place to eat it!
"Come quickly, my lord!"

Raine called out from the doorway of the cabin, which calmed Rhodes' anger.

He spat at the bear's head, shook the blood off his sword, and put away his wildness before going into the house.

It's a typical Northern cabin, with a few animal skins and deer head decorations hanging on the walls, but nothing particularly special about it.

Raine stood in the corner, with a wooden plank next to him, beneath which was the entrance to the cellar.

"Come and see."

At Renn's prompting, Rhodes walked up and looked down.

A teenage girl was holding her younger brother and sister, and the three children huddled together in fear.

The older girl was about the same age as the fourteen-year-old maid, Sunny, while the other two children were under ten.

Rhodes took a deep breath, composed himself, and said softly.
“I am Lord Rod Tulip of Blackpine Ridge. I have slain the black bear. You are safe now. Come out.”

After saying that, Rod extended his hand to the girl.

The girl looked at Rod's handsome and gentle face, hesitated for a moment, then got up and picked up her youngest brother, handing him to Rod.

"Slower."

Rod took his younger brother and placed him aside, then took his younger sister out as well, and handed his hand to the last girl.

But the girl didn't reach out. Standing there timidly, she said, "I can't carry her."

"she?"

Rod paused for a moment, then adjusted his position and looked inside in the girl's line of sight. There was a short-haired girl lying diagonally in the corner, her eyes closed, her life or death unknown.

"You come up first, I'll take care of her."

The little girl nodded, took Rod's hand, and climbed up.

Rhodes then jumped down into the cellar and came to the girl's side, his brows furrowed slightly.

The girl in front of me had a face covered in mud, but her delicate and beautiful features were still visible. Her jawline was elegant and smooth, and her fair and radiant skin revealed a beauty that was out of place in the northern wilderness.

Rhodes was not attracted by the girl's beauty; he was more concerned with her identity.

She doesn't belong in this cabin; she's a noblewoman.

The cellar was not a place for thinking. Rhodes stepped forward, picked up the girl, and carried her out of the cellar to the bed.

Rod wanted to ask the little girl about her background, but when he heard crying coming from outside, he had to give up for the time being.

"Aleya".

Rhodes let out a soft cry, and Aleya handed the child to two guards to comfort him before quickly going inside.

"Let's see how she is."

"Yes, my lord."

Aleya responded and stepped forward to examine the girl's body.

Although Aleya is not a herbalist, she has learned a lot from her mother and can treat common skin injuries.

"She has several abrasions, but they're nothing serious. She was bitten on the calf, but we've already applied herbal medicine."

Aleya examined it carefully, bent down and smelled it, "Calendula and lion's tooth grass, the choice is correct."

Then Alea reached out and touched the girl's forehead, finally confirming before reporting to Rhodes, "She's alright, she should wake up soon."

Rhodes nodded and said, "Check if she has anything unusual on her, preferably something that can prove her identity."

"Ok."

Alea rummaged through the girl's clothes and quickly found a brooch, which she handed to Rhode. Looking at the design on the brooch, Rhode turned and walked outside, handing the brooch to Durant.

"Look at this, this is interesting."

Durant took the brooch with a puzzled look, and involuntarily took a breath.

Gunle, who was standing nearby, craned his neck and asked curiously, "Is that... an eagle?"

“It’s a griffin,” Durant reminded him.

Rhodes nodded. "She's from the Red Griffin family."

"what?"

Gunther looked on in surprise.

Rhodes didn't want Gunle to be just a leader of charging soldiers; he wanted to train him and broaden his horizons. Therefore, he shared information about the surrounding forces and the news Durant brought back with Gunle.

Gunle also had some understanding of the surrounding situation.

"Who is she in the Red Griffin family? What is she doing here?"

Rod did not answer immediately, but looked the girl over again.

After hesitating for a moment, Rhodes finally spoke: "This is the closest place to Razor Plains."

I guess she's the lord of Razorfen Downs who was torn to pieces.

Durant nodded in agreement.

He appeared alone in this place without any servants, and with the air of a nobleman, it was hard not to think that way.

Of course, there are still many questions surrounding this.

Most importantly, how did she escape? And why are there rumors that she is dead?

These questions can only be answered when the girl wakes up.

Aleya was in charge of taking care of the girl, while Rod and his men dug a pit in the yard, put the bodies of the deceased couple in it and buried them to prevent wild animals from digging them up.

Without a doubt, these three children wouldn't survive long in the wild, and Rhodes would inevitably have to take them back to Frostleaf. This abandoned yard would be a perfect burial ground for the couple.

"it is a pity,"

Looking at the grave, Ryan sighed, "He must have been exhausted by the wolves and then ambushed by this black bear, which is why he ended up like this."

Raine found the carcasses of two Steppenwolves in the yard; their fur was covered in grass and dirt, clearly indicating they had been dragged back.

If they could, hunters wouldn't treat their prey so badly.

This indicates that the hunter was exhausted when he returned and had no choice but to drag his prey.

People's impression of black bears is mostly that they are fierce and brutal, but they don't know that black bears are also very cunning.

Unless they are extremely hungry, they will ambush and stalk their prey, looking for an opportunity to strike and kill them in one fell swoop.

"This is the downside of living alone."

Rhodes's face was grim. "Especially in a place like the Northern Wastes, you never know whether tomorrow or an accident will come first."

Only when everyone comes together and cooperates can we have a safe and stable life.

Raine and the others nodded in agreement with Rhodes's words.

"I wonder how many more scattered families like this still live in Heisongling."

Rhodes sighed and ordered, "Durant, when you get back, collect information from all the townspeople about the wandering lone wolves in the wasteland. If any information is confirmed, reward each person with thirty pounds of rye."

“Yes, Your Excellency.” Durant nodded immediately in response.

"Alright, Ryan, process all the game and start a fire to cook."

Rhodes gave a few instructions and was just about to go back to his room to rest when Aleya ran out.

"She's awake!"
