Chapter 2 Dogtown
"News Channel 54 brings you this report—"

"We have just received news that a team dispatched by Dogtown to transport weapons was attacked by unidentified individuals in Badlands."

"The casualty figures are still being tallied. The area is under the control of troops dispatched by Colonel Kurt Hansen. Unfortunately, our reporter has not yet been able to connect with this highly ambitious strategist."

For more news, please see below.

Sino reached out and turned off the radio, his expression turning sour because of the news.

Compared to the sullen Sino, Lin Yue was more curious and confused about the world.

He's neither a street kid nor a corporate dog, so how did he end up as a member of Dogtown?

However, this is also good news, after all, they are soldiers from Dogtown!

Otherwise, that last fight would have been disastrous.

It is now 2075, and the story of this world has not yet fully unfolded.

The embers of the Fourth Corporate War still linger in this world, and the Night Corporation has left Night City, a precious legacy, to this fertile land of North America.

Those legends who belong here, they all slowly walked the path that their lives were meant to take.

anyway.

Lin Yue stared at his personal attribute panel, his vision blurring.

"So weak," is Lin Yue's current assessment of himself.

Prosthetic bodies are all low-quality assembled products, with ridiculously cheap panels, and they don't cost much.

In short, this guy either used all his military pay to buy some tinctures mixed with paracetamol, or he played cards with the old hands in the military camp for several nights in a row.

Lin Yue hesitated.

Where to go? How to start walking? He had no clue about these questions at the moment.

Having just been reborn, and still feeling dizzy, I was slapped hard by the tense Night City.

It seems the only option is to return to Dogtown to report back.

I can't exactly go around looking for Rebecca and the others and say I want to join, can I?
His heart is still pounding from that life-or-death moment.

When fighting the cyberpunk team, Lin Yue subconsciously called for Sino to bring the goods, which was actually the fear of Colonel Hansen that the original owner of the body remembered.

That guy has the guts to control people's hearts and is fair in his rewards and punishments, but he punishes them quite severely.

[Rebecca's affinity has been updated]

[Affection level: 0 (You've piqued her curiosity, good luck!)]

[Reward: Reaction +2]

Lin Yue, who had just come to his senses from his distress, did not notice anything unusual. He blinked, but the feeling of being filled with power that he had imagined did not come.

I just felt my head was a little lighter, and my hand holding the rifle felt stronger.

Okay, at least there's something to look forward to.

Screech! The sharp sound of tires rubbing against the road rang out.

"Damn it! Bro, we can't go back."

"Damn it, I don't even want to think about what Hansen will do to us."

Sino's sudden braking nearly caused the unsuspecting Lin Yue to crash into the control panel.

Lin Yue frowned. With Seno looking so disoriented, could it be that Hansen was in worse shape than he had imagined?

Sino shook his badly injured arm and lit a cigarette with trembling hands. "Let's go together, buddy."

Lin Yue's first words were, "I don't think this will work. Hansen's influence is all over Night City, and the NCPD is in cahoots with them. Where do you want to go? Unless you leave this godforsaken place and go to New America."

At this point, losing the goods and returning them would have been understandable, but running away would only make things more difficult to explain.

God knows, whether Hansen will think that Cyno is the mole who sold information to the Cyberpunk team.

"NCPD?" Sino gave him a knowing look, "Well, anyway, I'm not planning on going back to work for Hansen. What do you think, bro?"

Lin Yue subtly watched as Sino's hand rested on the pistol at his waist, and he unconsciously tightened his grip on the barrel of his rifle.

The scene froze instantly.

Lin Yue spoke when the cigarette butt was almost completely burned out:

"Alright, buddy, you can go now. I'll tell Hansen I've never seen you before."

He forced a smile.

After all, he owed someone his life. Everyone has their own ambitions, and what Sino does is his business. As for Lin Yue, he has reasons why he has to go back.

Because the development panel gave him immense confidence:

[Person: Kurt Hansen]

[Affiliation: Dogtown]

[Affection level: 0 (You definitely don't want to see him with such low affection for you, so go back and apologize)]

[Development potential: Extremely high.]

[Stage Reward: Return to Dogtown to see him, gain the opportunity to interact with other legends, and receive +1 to all attributes.]

After listening to Lin Yue's words, Sino's tense body gradually relaxed. After finishing his cigarette, he jumped out of the car facing Lin Yue. This kid was quite wary, afraid that Lin Yue would shoot him in the back.

"Let's go, buddy. Wherever we go, it's definitely not here."

"Here you go with these gloves. They're top-quality, factory-made, durable, sturdy, and slip-resistant!"

Lin Yue watched Sino stagger and disappear around the corner in the rearview mirror, picked up his sweat-stained gloves and shook his head helplessly. Neither path was easy to choose, but he still felt that things might not be so bad in Dogtown.

Hansen is vengeful and won't make things too difficult for his own people, provided that the mistake wasn't made by one of them.

The car started and drove along the road in Tai Ping Chau, littered with burning garbage and paint cans, all the way to the checkpoint in Dog Town.

"Please undergo inspection."

The soldier in the externally mounted mech raised his hand to stop him; behind him, behind the roller shutter door, crisscrossing infrared beams were visible, so clear you could see every single hair on your head.

Lin Yue exposed his neck, and the soldier slowly examined it after inserting the wires into his brain-computer interface.

"So those unlucky guys from this morning were you guys?"

The soldier said jokingly, "Colonel Hansen is waiting for you. You're the third one to come back with his tail between his legs."

Lin Yue forced a smile and followed the instructions to undergo various scans.

"Damn it, drive faster! Are you waiting here to get your car washed?"

The soldiers at the checkpoint weren't very polite to their own people.

The magnificent "Sapphire Blue" is one of the few respectable buildings in Dogtown. Hansen's empire stands in Night City, and this former soldier of New America has long been a thorn in the side of various factions.

After Lin Yue got out of the car, several soldiers disarmed him, and then he was pressed down on the shoulder by a tremendous force.

"Hey, Lin! Open your eyes wider!"

The soldier, who seemed to be a friend of Lin Yue's predecessor, had letters tattooed on his back and face. He whispered a few words of advice and was then escorted to the Gemstone Green elevator.

……

"Mann, did you understand what I said?"

Rebecca was nestled on the sofa in a private room of a bar on Twisted Street, her legs swinging on the table as she grumbled unhappily.

"Calm down, you mean that Ghost Hound knows your name? That's unlikely..."

Mann rubbed his temples, feeling a bit of a headache.

"Didn't we agree on this, Mann? This is the top-secret job the middleman introduced?"

Rebecca chuckled and slowly continued, "The good thing about this job is that all those idiots from the Ghost Hounds are calling me by my name and calling me a moron! Damn it!"

Rebecca's brother, Pila, waved his arms dramatically, "I thought this job was as simple as assembling a hand grenade!"

"Now look what's happened, everyone knows my name—hey! I know you, you're the girl I picked up at the bar!"

Mann's head throbbed even more when he heard Pila's grumbling complaints.

The middleman wasn't going to clean up the mess; that was something only the team could handle. So he turned his attention to the girl in the corner, arms crossed, leaning against the wall and looking up information.

What do you think, Sasha?

Sasha Yakovleva's holographic glasses closed the message, and a pink heart popped up as she closed the interface, which matched her pink and black hacker outfit perfectly.

She tidied her dark, tousled hair behind her ear. "Dogtown is a bit nauseating."

"However, you can leave it to me and see which important figure from the Netherhound is this."
