Chapter 49
—Have I somehow entered the world of Journey to the West? Even Pigsy has appeared!
Despite thinking this, Zhou You did not react in any way. He simply hung upside down there, quietly, just like a real corpse.
The pig-headed monster did not notice anything unusual.
With its enormous head held high, it sniffed around the pile of corpses, occasionally rummaging through the hanging carcasses, carefully examining every inch of flesh with its eyes.
It was as if the chef was carefully selecting the ingredients for the day.
Fortunately, Zhou You's physique was probably far from being fat and plump. After searching for a while, the monster gave up on that piece and finally carried away a corpse that had been split in two.
Only then did Zhou You have time to observe his surroundings.
At first glance, it was a small room of about twenty square meters. There were no windows or anything like that around it. Only a few dim candles provided lighting. Seven or eight corpses were neatly hanging in the room, and Zhou You was one of them—albeit not quite dead yet.
The room door wasn't locked.
But given Zhou You's current situation, he has no way to get past it.
"So the most important thing now is how to get off this hook."
Zhou You looked up and first tried to free himself from the hook with just one hand, but a sharp pain immediately stopped him—due to the position of the hook, unless he hardened his heart and gave up his right hand, it was impossible for him to get off on his own.
In a place where you can't see anything, losing a hand is basically equivalent to losing your life.
So Zhou You scanned his surroundings again, trying to find a handy tool or something he could use for leverage. Unfortunately, after searching for a long time, he still couldn't find anything useful.
So he took a second look at the corpse in front of him, its eyes wide open in death.
—It seems this is the only one we can borrow.
"Brother, I'm sorry."
Zhou You silently said no, then slightly arched his back, took a deep breath, and suddenly exerted force with his lower body!
Driven by inertia, the hook that had been hanging him swung forward instantly. Accompanied by a tearing sensation, an intense pain instantly shot through his hand, but Zhou You didn't even utter a sound as his body crashed directly into the corpse!
Unfortunately, it was just a little short.
Zhou You did not lose heart. Instead, he endured the excruciating pain and gripped the hook in his right hand to prevent the wound from worsening. Then, he kicked backward, hitting another corpse and making himself sway even more violently!
After trying two or three times, he finally got close to the corpse in front of him, wrapped his legs around it, and locked the other person's waist tightly.
After catching his breath and regaining his strength, Zhou You used the corpse as support, pushed his legs up, and straightened his body.
At this point, he finally reached a height where he could reach the hook.
Then, this person grabbed the already pale right hand, and with a chilling scraping sound, actually pulled the palm off the hook!
By this time, all their strength had been exhausted.
Even so, Zhou You did not let his body fall under the force of gravity. Instead, he hugged the corpse and slid his body down little by little until he finally landed on the dusty ground.
—From beginning to end, no one was alerted.
Only then did he let out a long sigh of relief. He wiped the large beads of sweat from his face and spat. "System, you're really going too far! It's bad enough that the dungeon difficulty is getting higher and higher, but now you've even given us a half-crippled start!"
Nevertheless, he still struggled to take out the Yun Gu ointment and applied it to the wound on his palm.
The sticky but cool sensation gradually seeped into the body, and the wound began to stop bleeding and heal at a visible speed. Although it could not be said to be cured, at least it did not completely cause the loss of limb function.
"This stuff is useful, but unfortunately we didn't get enough from the old woman." Looking at the few tubes of ointment left, Zhou You sighed softly, put them away, then half-squatted down, carefully walked to the door, and glanced outside.
There was no trace of the pig-headed monster outside, but the faint sound of a knife chopping on a cutting board could be heard coming from the other side.
Zhou You could guess who made the noise and what they were chopping even with a fool's eyes.
So he reached out to the other side without hesitation.
The place he was in seemed to be a cave. The air was murky and had a faint, lingering musty smell. The tunnel had not been repaired in any way, and the bare stone walls were exposed. Only the torches on the walls provided dim lighting.
Soon, Zhou You found his way to another stone chamber.
Unfortunately, this isn't an exit either.
Judging from the outside, this place is much larger than the previous morgue. It seems to be a dining hall. A huge stone table is placed in the center of the hall. There is no decoration on it, only large patches of oil and mud stains covering it. There are also many rotten leftovers in the crevices. Many flies are flying around, as if enjoying a feast.
This looks like a dining table with extremely poor hygiene conditions, clearly indicating that it was produced in India.
But the problem is
—And who would have three heads on their dining table?
Looking around, Zhou You saw three severed heads neatly arranged at the end of the dining table—just like a decoration in an ordinary household.
Counting from the left, the first head is that of a young man with a topknot, the second is that of a middle-aged man with a fierce face, and the third is that of an elderly man with a full head of white hair.
And for some reason, although they are all of different ages, the size of these heads is very similar, and even their facial bones are almost the same.
"Could it be that the owner of this house is a person with obsessive-compulsive disorder, so obsessed with neatness and uniformity?"
Zhou You himself wasn't particularly moved—after all, he had gotten used to it from the previous times—but just as he was about to examine it more closely, the heavy footsteps suddenly sounded behind him again.
At the same time, the copper bell on his wrist began to vibrate rapidly!
—That monster is coming again!
He quickly glanced around, found a cabinet door in the corner, and hurriedly squeezed inside.
A few dozen seconds later, footsteps entered the room. The thing didn't seem to notice anything unusual; it simply placed something on the table and then went out again.
Zhou You breathed a sigh of relief, crawled out of the cabinet, and looked up, immediately spotting something.
—It was a roasted carcass, glistening with oil, golden brown and crispy.
A human corpse?
