Chapter 91 The Ambush by the Semi-Submersible
Chapter 91 The Ambush by the Semi-Submersible
Since we have reinforcements available, there's no need to fight to the death.
“Then we need to shake off our pursuers,” Su Ming said.
The White Triangle wasn't fast, and relying on its faulty right-side power unit, it hadn't been able to completely shake off the pirate ship. Su Ming patiently played a game of cat and mouse with the pirate ship, constantly widening the distance.
He planned to wait until nightfall, and once they were more than ten kilometers away from all enemy ships, to briefly stop for half an hour to perform secondary repairs on the starboard propulsion system. Even if the White Triangle could recover to half speed, it wouldn't be something these weaklings could even dream of.
Su Ming was making preparations in the engine room when Zi Jin walked in with a piece of paper covered in runes.
"Based on the feedback from the previous battle, I've made some minor adjustments to the Zombie Reversal Spell." The scholar handed Su Ming a paper covered in runes. "Your magical strength and learning ability should be sufficient to use this spell."
Su Ming took the paper and saw the completely simplified runes on it, his eyes narrowing slightly.
“I was suspicious when I saw you use it earlier. Sure enough, your Reverse Magic isn’t some modified version of the Reverse Zombie spell at all.” He held up the paper. “You’ve created a completely new spell that removes the limitations of zombies and pushes their growth rate to the limit, sending the sea monster directly to the end of its life!”
Zijin looked at Su Ming with some surprise. "This is the most effective solution I could think of. Is there a problem?"
"Can't zombified creatures be restored?" Su Ming asked. "I mean, if the creature that has been zombified is a human, is this the only way?"
“If it were the original zombie technique from three hundred years ago, it could still be restored shortly after conversion,” Zi Jin replied seriously. “But the enemy has upgraded the zombie technology, and now there is no possibility of reversal.”
“Magic isn’t everything,” she added. “Human power is sometimes limited.”
Su Ming nodded. "I understand."
The white triangle suddenly began to turn, and Sivo also sent out an alarm that a target was approaching. The two quickly went to the driver's seat.
“There are three sea monsters approaching,” Siwo pointed north.
Su Ming and Zi Jin immediately picked up their binoculars to observe. It was the cusp of dusk, and the light and shadow effects at sea were chaotic, making it difficult to see clearly in either the infrared or normal mode of the binoculars. However, upon closer inspection, they could still spot three giant octopuses swimming towards them with all their might. Their tentacles constantly extended above the water, and their bodies rose and fell in the waves, creating three huge white streaks.
Sivo immediately ordered the White Triangle to turn south. The three sea monsters were about two kilometers apart and traveling at a speed of over 14 knots. Even after deducting the White Triangle's speed, it would take them seven or eight minutes to catch up.
"Why are these giant octopuses floating to the surface of the sea?" Su Ming asked, puzzled.
“It’s probably to catch up with us faster,” Siwo explained. “The resistance in the water is much greater than the resistance in the air, so having part of your body above the water allows you to swim faster.”
Su Ming looked at it carefully again. These octopuses used their mantle cavity to contract and spray water in the water, then moved their tentacles to leap out of the water, and then plunged back into the water as they rose and fell.
Spray water again, leap out, fall back—isn't that the wave-like breaststroke?
This is definitely not the normal swimming motion of an octopus. The manipulator behind this sea monster is truly cunning.
Su Ming then raised another, even more perplexing question, "What are they here for?"
The three giant octopuses were only about sixty meters long, smaller than the second batch, suggesting they were the third batch as a reserve force. Even if the White Triangle allowed them to entangle them, they wouldn't cause any real damage.
Especially since Violet has already demonstrated her ability to disintegrate zombies and can easily kill them—so this action by the enemy is illogical.
"Let's wait and see?" Siwo suggested.
Su Ming shook his head in rejection. He recalled how the pirates had previously tried to lure them into a seemingly open area of sea when they were besieged. Could they be using the same trick again? He carefully scanned the sea area ten kilometers ahead with the radar, but found nothing unusual. Su Ming didn't give up. He had the zombie bring flares and launched them close to the surface of the sea.
The last rays of the sun had begun to sink below the horizon, and the light from the flares smoothed out the shadows of the waves, revealing a few scattered metallic glints on the sea surface directly ahead!
"A semi-submersible ship!" Su Ming finally realized who his long-standing enemy was.
Most of the ship's hull was submerged underwater, with only a small portion above the surface, revealing only its light blue-painted top, making it difficult to spot amidst the waves. At this moment, it was opening its top armor, revealing a row of dark cannon muzzles.
"Heavy artillery!" Su Ming exclaimed. "Zi Jin, don't hold back!"
Violet was already standing on the bridge tower, manifesting the Divine Scepter, and countless magical energies began to converge upon her. The magical link of the Bone Fortress was activated, providing her with a magical amplification.
"Siwo, let's break through!" Su Ming judged that the ship was not small, and a single attack from a titled scholar might not be enough to sink it. He picked up his gun case and slung it over his shoulder. "Those sea monsters, let the bone whale handle them!"
"Okay!" Sivor pulled Su Ming up and leaped into the night sky.
A vast amount of magical elements were compressed by the violet onto the Divine Blessing Scepter, condensing into a six-colored spell until the colors faded. A sudden stillness fell, the last rays of the setting sun disappeared on the horizon, and darkness spread across the sea.
Between the sea and the sky, only a faint glow of the scepter remains.
Su Ming and Xiwo had already spotted their target. The lines on the ship's hull were distinctly different from those of the Western Continent, and seemed somewhat familiar.
Suddenly, a figure flew out of the cabin and hovered above the deck. It could be vaguely seen that it was a woman, very tall, wearing a long cloak and a casually tied cloth belt around her waist.
Su Ming and Xiwo sensed a faint ethereal aura emanating from the woman.
"This necromancer doesn't seem very strong," Siwo said. Logically, with such weak necromancy, he shouldn't be able to control such a large octopus.
"The person behind this has finally shown their true colors. Let's suppress them first, and capture them alive if we have the chance!" Su Ming said.
The girl just chuckled and leaped into the air. "How annoying, my tactics got figured out again." She waved to the two fast-moving figures. "Let's play again next time!"
On Violet's side, the semi-submersible was outside the mental lock-on range, but fortunately, the target hadn't moved. She aimed the Divine Blessing Scepter at the semi-submersible's turret and activated the spell!
"Six-pointed star - Divine decree!"
The scholar's magic, as always, was not particularly dazzling, and its effects were even less noticeable than the wind and waves in the night, but the entire sea still seemed to freeze at that moment.
The mysterious woman casually shook her head, then leaped into the air. Her movements were fluid, yet seemingly slow but actually swift, and in an instant she was out of the spell's range.
Yesterday, I posted a rant in the "Author's Note" section, explaining in detail why certain content cannot be written.
But a third of it was accidentally gone (guess why). So the whole comment looked weird. I only just realized it, so I just deleted it all.
The author's words cannot be mentioned, yet people still keep leaving comments asking me to write about "characters from the Three Kingdoms period." Have I offended you?
I've tried to be as clear as possible; if you don't understand, there's nothing I can do. I'll delete any similar posts I see in the future.
