Chapter 43 Playful Heroic Spirits
Chapter 43 Playful Heroic Spirits
In the gale of the dark night, a completely unknown power appeared on the Zhiyuan, filling the previously empty skeletal markings. The hull, damaged by the initial magical attack, was slowly repaired.
"You guys know a lot, don't you?" Zijin stood up on the deck of the boat, stretching her arms forward with her hands clasped together. "But the requests you've made are really difficult to fulfill."
"I have a feeling you're eager to try," Su Ming bluntly pointed out.
“I’ve got a temper after being chased and beaten so much!” Violet stretched her shoulders. “That ship just hit me so hard. I thought I’d have to wait a while to get revenge—it feels so good to settle things right away!”
Once on the battlefield, Zijin's scholarly demeanor vanished.
However, this whole mess is Su Ming's fault. He quickly manipulated the bone mark to dismantle the sails and masts, reassembling them into a ship's superstructure. The Zhiyuan was restored to its original steam-powered warship form, and its speed inevitably dropped sharply.
The bone platform beneath Zijin's feet rose, and she focused her mind to unfold the magic array.
Colorful patterns appeared all over the ship, the intricate structure was reorganized, and channels of magic were established in the skeleton, flowing faster and faster.
Bone Fortress, a spell-based attack configuration!
Su Ming also switched the mode of the White Bone Mark and activated all relevant nodes. A vast amount of magical power began to synchronize and merge with the Violet.
Bone Mark, Spell Amplification Form!
Zi Jin was surprised and wanted to stop him, but after Su Ming joined the magic synchronization, he actually withstood the intense magic pressure.
"Such rapid progress!" she thought to herself.
Ahead, the commander of the Fusō battleship watched this scene with bewilderment. He couldn't understand why the enemy, who was about to leave, would suddenly slow down. But this gave the Fusō another opportunity to attack, and he quickly organized a salvo from its cannons.
The Zhiyuan performed a very smooth zigzag maneuver, dodging most of the shells, and the few threatening ones were intercepted by the Violet.
"Su Ming, my bounty is going to increase again." The scholar's tone was very mournful.
"Isn't it said that having a lot of lice means you won't itch?"
The girl turned to the side and held out her right hand. The divine scepter was not in her grasp; instead, it floated on its own in the sea breeze, parallel to her arm.
The scepter began to glow with a halo of light, starting from the cyan color representing the wind element, then the red of the fire element, the blue of the water element, the yellow of the earth element, until it became multicolored, followed by the shimmering light element, and finally it was enveloped in dark black, returning to calm and without any further ripples.
The once surging magical energy fluctuations of the Zhiyuan gradually decreased and even disappeared, and a noticeable negative magical pressure appeared in the surrounding sea area, as if an elemental black hole had silently appeared here.
Three kilometers away, but an unknown force had locked onto the Fusō from afar.
The officers on the Fusō's faces changed drastically; this was beyond their comprehension. As a destructive weapon at sea, range and maneuverability were the Songstress-class's most formidable advantages, but today they had been mocked time and again.
"Hexagram - Death's Word - Divine Decree!"
Zijin didn't say it aloud, but everyone present heard it.
The phantom of an ancient cannonball appeared out of thin air and shot out.
"Take cover!" the first mate of the Fusang shouted in alarm.
But it was all in vain. The next moment, the entire superstructure of the Fusō was riddled with holes, and then it collapsed with a deafening roar!
Amidst the flying debris, all of the Fusō's cannons were blown away, and sailors and officers lay sprawled on the floor. The deck was littered with scattered shells and propellant, yet there was no secondary explosion.
How could there be no casualties after such a horrific attack?!
"It didn't explode?" The scholar was very surprised by this result. She glanced at the Divine Scepter beside her; it seemed that since she started using it, she hadn't killed a single person.
Finally, the scholars attributed the cause to the enemy's sheer luck.
But the people on the other side didn't see it that way; the sudden turn of events had already terrified them. Encountering such an illogical enemy was absolutely the worst luck imaginable!
The captain of the Fusō, suppressing his trembling hands, picked up the signal flare that had fallen to the ground and shoved it into the arms of the still-shaken messenger beside him. "Immediately, three blue flares, declare withdrawal from battle!" Three bright blue signal flares rose into the air, floating and slowly descending, bringing a sliver of light to the dark battlefield.
"What a capricious heroic spirit." Violet felt the satisfied specks of light dissipate. She lay sprawled on the roof of the ship, soaking wet, watching them vanish beneath the starry sky. "Is this how it is in your world?"
“Yes.” Su Ming closed his eyes. Although the battle hadn’t lasted long, as soon as he relaxed, a feeling of exhaustion immediately overwhelmed him.
He sensed those beings fading away, "They were thanking me for my space and necromancy abilities, giving them a chance to play in the mortal world—I'll never dare to give them random names again."
“I think the person on the other side should regret choosing the wrong name,” Violet said.
"By the way, Su Ming, are you really not a combatant from your world?" she continued.
Being pointed at by a dozen cannons from a battleship, calmly searching for weaknesses and turning the tide—this kind of performance is not something a normal person should be able to do.
Su thought for a moment and decided to explain, "Maybe it's related to the game."
It's not a regular game, but a hardcore war-themed competition with teams of up to fifty people.
Su Ming loved it very much during his university years and eventually became the leader of the team.
In the heat of battle, a misjudgment of the situation or a bombing order that deviates from the target can cause the battle to fall apart in an instant, making an hour's worth of effort by all members go to waste.
It took him about three years to go from initially being unable to bear the pressure of failure to eventually calmly dealing with various ups and downs. Through countless reviews and criticisms, he painfully corrected his bad habits and shortcomings amidst regret and reflection.
When faced with a crisis, whether it's the outcome of a game or a real battle, the principle remains the same: calmness offers opportunity, panic guarantees defeat.
At that moment, Su Ming achieved a state of perfect stillness, as if it were muscle memory. He even belatedly realized that he wasn't typing on a keyboard, nor was he facing a virtual competition; he was engaged in a life-or-death duel.
"You can do that?" Zijin looked bewildered. "This kind of experience doesn't require risking your life?"
"I don't know either, but training in similar situations is helpful."
“That makes sense.” The girl thought for a moment. “It’s time to start training you.”
"What kind of training?"
Violet did not answer, but looked up at the night sky, where a small black dot appeared late in the distance.
He is the Archbishop of Stanton.
He sensed the familiar wave approaching from afar, and then witnessed it brutally shave the Fusang's head.
So back then at the edge of the Emerald Sea, was he jumping around in front of something so terrifying? Stanton recalled in horror, and he was incredibly grateful that he had activated the Bone Dragon Illusion first and acted faster.
He took a deep breath and symbolically followed behind the Zhiyuan. After all, having flown for so long, it was only natural that he wouldn't have the energy to accelerate and would eventually be left behind.
Zijin waved gently towards the horizon, then said to Su Ming, "I'm going to sleep for a bit. Good luck to you."
"Wait a minute, I'll take you back to your room."
Su Ming sat up from his chair, maneuvered the rudder to turn the Zhiyuan back east, and pushed the boilers and steam turbines to maximum power.
go ahead!
