Otherworld Bone Dragon Operation Guide
Chapter 38 Kathleen
Chapter 38 Kathleen
The girl clearly struggled for a moment, but then sighed and waved her hand.
“No, my strength is about the same as Catherine’s, and she can’t possibly be without helpers—” Violet said dejectedly, “We are the ones who should be avoiding her.”
Su Ming was puzzled. Just now, the opposing side had completely avoided battle, even giving away the scout ship for nothing. If the opposing team had someone capable of going toe-to-toe with the scholars, plus the support of the rune array mages, how could things have come to this?
“This person was my classmate at the Temple of Light, the High Priest of the Temple’s Oversight Division.” Violet sighed, brushing aside the hair on her forehead to reveal a shallow scar. “This is what she hit me with a candlestick back then. After hitting me, she even cast a healing spell on me—and I had to pretend nothing happened and force myself to endure it. It made me so angry!” She had a sullen expression on her face.
Su Ming felt that Zi Jin had already used up her daily quota of expressions, so it seemed that this Catherine must be her true love without a doubt.
“But why would Catherine stay obediently in the rear? With her personality, she should be on the front line, on the Azure Sea Valley.” Violet asked, puzzled, as she raised the wooden stick in her hand, ready to continue hitting the captain on the head.
"She's pregnant!" the captain said shrewdly. "Judging from her figure, she's at least eight months along."
"Pregnant?" Zijin exclaimed in surprise. "Your daughter is already eighteen, and you're having a second child?"
However, this made her avoidance of battle reasonable, and the scholar suddenly felt that chasing after her was not out of the question.
"No, forget it." She finally gave up. "I already have enough enemies. If we provoke her now, we'll be hunted down by the strongest nation on this continent."
Su Ming desperately wanted to pretend he hadn't heard. He felt he must have made a mistake since transmigrating, as the enemies he'd gotten involved with were all terrifying.
He was an unfortunate soul who accidentally traveled to this world, a wage slave by profession, not here to challenge it. Wouldn't it be better to quietly research the portal, then go home and continue drinking his sugary soda and playing games?
Su Ming had never longed for world peace so much.
"Who is her husband?" he asked.
“No husband, this mistress isn’t married,” Violet replied. She tapped the captain’s head a few more times, realizing she couldn’t get anything of value out of him anymore.
Su Ming was puzzled. Although clergy members could marry and have children freely, having a child out of wedlock, especially a second child, and knowingly becoming a third party, was something that shouldn't be taken seriously regarding the reputation of the church's management.
“Because of the child’s nominal father status, no one dares to object.” Zi Jin saw that the zombies on the deck had already completed the initial dismantling of the ship’s hull and were carrying it into the boiler room in batches as fuel. “That’s about enough, Su Ming. What’s our next step?” she asked, beckoning to her skeleton servants and pointing at the captain, “Drag him down and lock him up first.”
"Wait, aren't you going to let me go?" the captain asked in fear.
“We’ll release you once we’re free,” Su Ming replied.
"The Temple of Light's carrier strike group is ahead!" the captain shouted. "We'll be blown to smithereens by the Songstress's rune cannons!"
“So you should pray that we can escape safely.” Violet struck him again with her stick.
Su Ming returned to the operations room and updated the data on the sand table. The Azure Sea Valley had appeared on the radar, oriented southeast at a distance of 125 kilometers.
Ahead of the Azure Ocean Valley, two Songstress-class destroyers were still advancing 10 kilometers in an inverted triangle formation. The "Squirrel Battle Group" on the other side was not in the field of view of the mast radar and was estimated to still be in the northeast direction.
However, the ship is not only equipped with X-band radar.
The Zhiyuan first sailed north until the sailors were out of sight, then raised its sails and released a weather balloon.
The large-scale S-band scan was completed, and radar images with a radius of 260 kilometers appeared on the display screen. The equipment even experienced some lag.
More than one hundred ships were scanned in total, and Su Ming and Zi Jin identified and marked them one by one.
"Is this Catherine difficult to deal with?" Su Ming asked while busy.
"The most powerful commander in the Temple of Light this generation," the scholar replied. "I suggest you don't try to outmaneuver her in the realm of strategy." "...I don't have that ability either."
Most of the targets detected were fishing boats, merchant ships, or possibly logistics vessels that provided supplies to the combat fleet.
However, they still managed to find a fourth combat fleet, a formation of five destroyers with a displacement of about 800 tons, located 200 kilometers north of the Zhiyuan.
Su Ming designated it as the "Five-in-a-Row Battle Group".
The "Squirrel Battle Group" has also been located, indeed in the northeast direction, 140 kilometers away, and is coordinating with the "Carrier Battle Group" to encircle the location of the Zhiyuan.
By this point, including the six Mabe-class destroyers, they had been surrounded and attacked by five fleets.
"What a magnificent scene."
“Oh, there’s something I need to remind you,” Violet suddenly said. “We can’t go along the coast. If we get too close, we might be attacked by a dragon.”
"A giant dragon, not a flying dragon?" Su Ming thought he had misheard.
"No, it's a dragon."
Great, Su Ming discovered that his enemy team had assembled a complete set of SSR characters.
"Alright then, since our plan is to break out to the open sea anyway," Su Ming said.
He measured the distances between the various fleets, especially the "Squirrel Battle Group" and the "Carrier Battle Group" blocking the way, and found that the distance between the two fleets was as high as 90 kilometers.
He quickly calculated that this width really could allow him to break through, and the chances of success were very high!
"Don't blame me for flanking them then!" Su Ming thought to himself.
He drew the route on the sand table. "Violet, we'll head northeast first, out of the reconnaissance ship's detection range; then turn east, passing between the 'Squirrel Battle Group' and the 'Carrier Battle Group'!"
Zi Jin quickly calculated the required speed. "How fast can you run like that?" she asked, puzzled. "After turning east, the wind direction is a 45-degree headwind!"
Even with steam power, the thrust of the sails was crucial, as headwinds would reduce speed. The speed needed to break out of the water had to be higher than the previous 20 knots.
"You'll see for yourself in a moment," Su Ming said, keeping everyone in suspense. "But will Archbishop Stanton be able to help this time?" he suddenly asked.
"You solve puzzles very quickly," Violet praised. "He's the most skilled pilot, and he'll definitely participate in the naval battle. I can even guess—"
She pointed to the "Squirrel Fighting Group," saying, "Stanton will most likely be assigned here to fill the gaps in the cruiser squadron's strengths."
"So, he can't provide information or go easy on us this time?" Su Ming asked.
It wasn't hard to guess that Stanton had a problem. No one would carry cake and strawberries in a serious operation; if they were to carry anything, it would be dry rations suitable for flight—this was the starting point that aroused Su Ming's suspicion.
Therefore, it is hypothesized that he and Violet reached a tacit agreement on the battlefield: the scholar would delay the pursuing bishops, and after creating distance, he would stage an illusion to let the Bone Fortress go.
