Chapter 18: How to Break Down Your Family's Defenses
"...I've memorized the class schedule. Vaughn, Gryffindor and Slytherin have many classes together. I don't think the sorting will have any impact."
"Today's first period is Transfiguration. Have you prepared? If not, can I lend you my notes, or can we sit together during class?"
Breakfast has been placed on the long tables of the four colleges in the auditorium, and it is quite sumptuous.
Of all the British "foods", breakfast is the only one that Vaughan doesn't get bored of.
In addition to the common sausages and bacon, there are also scrambled eggs and ketchup sets.
Even the staple food, bread, comes in a wide variety of varieties.
Vaughan, wearing the Slytherin snake shield badge, sat at the Gryffindor table with dignity, listening to Hermione's chattering beside him while leisurely eating breakfast.
Every Gryffindor who passed by them would first look up suspiciously.
After making sure that he hadn't gone to the wrong place due to sleepiness, he hurried away from the two people with a strange expression.
The Slytherins not far away looked back frequently.
The news that Vaughn had knocked the prefect unconscious with two spells last night had spread overnight, and almost the entire Slytherin house knew about it.
It was said that the spell on Mr. Prefect was very powerful and his classmates could not break it, so they had to send him to Madam Pomfrey overnight.
Everyone is taking a second look at this red-haired Weasley!
This is probably the only advantage of Slytherins. They advocate strength and power. Even in the pure-blood education they receive, strength and power are one and the same.
Whoever is stronger will get their attention!
But... why was that guy sitting at the Gryffindor table? Is it the Weasley family's nature to be rebellious?
It’s so uncomfortable!
Many little snakes in the snake academy who wanted to talk to Vaughn did not dare to provoke Vaughn, so they just glared at the Gryffindors.
The Gryffindors also found it strange. For the sake of Percy, Fred and George, they were too embarrassed to drive Vaughn away, so they just glared back at the Slytherins.
It was a very ordinary breakfast, but for some reason, there was a sense of tension between the two colleges.
This naturally attracted the attention of Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff.
However, of these two colleges, Ravenclaw has always been well versed in the art of self-preservation and doesn't bother to care about other people's affairs, while the little badgers of Hufflepuff are simple in nature and don't like to show off.
No one fanned the flames.
Until Fred and George stormed in.
"Look! George! The Weasley snake, he's sitting at the Gryffindor table!"
"Yes, Fred, you read that right. It's horrible. This guy betrayed us, and he still has the nerve to come back!"
The two men stood behind Vaughn, one on the left and one on the right, with their arms crossed, and tried to open their eyes wide, trying to let their brother understand how angry and disappointed they were!
Vaughn broke off a piece of bread, took a sip of the thick mushroom soup, and said slowly:
"Are you sure you want to cause trouble for me?"
"Hmm—I remember two people trying to please me all summer. Seeing how sincere they were, I was planning to give them 10 Galleons and put them in the Halloween package they were sending me to support their cause..."
As he said this, Vaughn turned around and looked at his two brothers with a sincere expression: "Now it seems that they don't want it!"
The twins unconsciously lowered their arms and looked at each other.
"What, Fred?"
"...How about...forgive him first?"
"Will it seem that we are too unprincipled?"
"Ten Galleons..."
"Percy said yesterday that no Weasley had ever been sorted into Slytherin. Someone had to be taught a lesson..."
The twins looked at each other again and suddenly burst into laughter: "Who cares what Percy says!"
“We’re absolutely not doing this for Galleons, but how could we possibly betray our brother’s unwavering support for our cause? Right, Fred?” “Yes, George. So what if they’re Slytherins? Aren’t they Hogwarts students? Aren’t they our brothers?”
"Ahem, there are still quite a lot of assholes in Slytherin, but our brother is definitely not one of them."
"That's right George!"
Vaughn smiled and stopped teasing them. Instead, he asked seriously, "Is 10 Galleons enough?"
The twins nodded repeatedly and said:
"Enough is enough."
"Critical, Vaughn!"
The two were in a very good mood. They picked up a few pieces of bread and left quickly while discussing product development issues in a low voice.
After they had walked quite a distance, one of them muttered quietly, "There has never been a Slytherin in Weasley..."
"What can we do? That's our brother, George."
"Ugh……"
……
"The twins are gone." Although he looked calm, Vaughn was secretly relieved in his heart. Things did not go beyond his expectations.
In the entire Weasley family, Fred and George are the most mischievous.
But because of their close age, he is the most protective of his younger brothers.
He had also written a letter to Molly and Arthur last night, explaining his reasons for entering Slytherin house - he didn't mention Occlumency, but said that he had discussed it with the Sorting Hat and that he hoped to study Potions with Professor Snape.
Since this is about studying and Snape, Mom and Dad shouldn't have any qualms about it anymore...
"Alas, if I had such a clear mindset when handling interpersonal relationships in my previous life, I wouldn't have ended up being just an ordinary office worker!"
Vaughan sighed.
Then, I heard Hermione beside me say hesitantly, "Actually, I don't think going to Slytherin means anything."
Vaughn looked at her. Her face was flushed, but she still said seriously:
"I've read Hogwarts: A History, A History of Magic, and Modern History of Magic, and no magic historian has ever said that Slytherin only produces bad people. I also don't think that house sorting determines whether a person is good or bad. I even saw in Modern History of Magic that one of the most notorious Death Eaters was from Gryffindor!"
Listen to her serious explanation, or comfort?
Vaughan smiled and ruffled her hair. "Thank you, Hermione."
He didn't need comfort though.
But isn't it nice to have a sensible little girl thinking about you?
This happy mood lasted until breakfast was over and then he went to Transfiguration class with Hermione.
This was the first class of their first year. When Vaughn and Hermione arrived, there were only two or three people in the classroom, such as Malfoy and Neville, who was being mocked by him.
And a tabby cat squatting on the podium.
Seeing Vaughn, Malfoy and his followers subconsciously shrank into the corner. Neville was very grateful for this. He didn't care about Vaughn's Slytherin identity at all. He cried and thanked him, "Thank you, Vaughn. Only you can scare Malfoy. I heard that you beat him up badly. You are really great!"
The tabby cat squatting on the podium had a serious expression on its face.
Vaughan's good mood was gone in an instant.
Thank you, Neville, it would be better if you could just shut up...
