Chapter 2 The End of the Timeline

Chapter 2 The End of the Timeline
"Huh? Where did I end up? Is this still Earth?"

He had experienced a spacetime vortex that nearly tore his consciousness apart, and endured a dizzying, toilet-flushing experience, but what he saw was not the scene he had expected.

The ruins stretched into the distance as far as the eye could see, and the sky was a despairing gray.

The whole thing is packed with wasteland and post-apocalyptic environmental elements.

And his body also seemed to be acting strangely.

Lin Yu looked down at his hands, which had a strange, ethereal quality, as if they might vanish into thin air at any moment. He tried to touch a piece of charred wood beside him, but his fingers passed right through it without any resistance.

"Why is it still like this? Have I really become a time prisoner?" Lin Yu couldn't help but complain.

It was certainly novel at first, but now that you can't eat anything or experience anything, it will alienate your personality.

Just then, a series of hurried footsteps came from not far away.

A figure rushed out from behind a pile of collapsed building ruins, covered in dust and with disheveled hair, looking quite disheveled, but tall and beautiful, she also had a bit of the air of a beauty in troubled times.

"Is there anyone else?"

She was visibly startled when she saw Lin Yu, and then her face showed anxiety as she shouted at him, "Don't come out! Go back quickly! The monster is coming!"

As she spoke, she rushed up to Lin Yu and reached out to grab him.

Then, without any hesitation, her hand slipped through Lin Yu's arm.

The girl's movements came to an abrupt halt. She stared in astonishment at her hands, then at Lin Yu, her expression shifting from anxiety to bewilderment, and finally to disbelief.

"Mayumi?" Lin Yu blurted out almost immediately.

The girl in front of him was Tetsuo Shinjo's younger sister, Mayumi Shinjo.

Mayumi was taken aback, tilting her head: "You know me?"

Without thinking twice, she immediately realized what was happening and anxiously called out, "Don't talk about this now, quick, let's hide over here!"

She crouched down first and hid under a relatively intact section of broken wall, signaling Lin Yu to follow.

Although he knew that his normal attacks would be ineffective in his current state, Lin Yu still "floated" over as instructed.

Not long after, a huge shadow loomed over the area, and a ferocious giant monster slowly flew by from not far away. Its appearance was grotesque, with three red eyes. Lin Yu recognized it at a glance as the Cosmic Spider that flew over from the side of the moon in Gaia.

He looked intimidating, but after being punched twice by Supreme Gaia Boom, he fell asleep immediately.

Young monsters are great; they can eat well and sleep soundly.

Only after the monster's commotion had completely subsided did Mayumi finally breathe a long sigh of relief, patting her chest, still shaken.

She turned her head and looked Lin Yu up and down again, her eyes filled with doubt: "You just called my name, how do you know me?"

Lin Yu cleared his throat: "I learned about you from the Xincheng team members, and I've also seen your photos. He always mentions you, his little sister."

He really didn't lie.

Although I didn't mention it to him.

Upon hearing the words "New Town," Mayumi's eyes lit up briefly before dimming again.

She nodded, seemingly accepting the explanation: "So you're my brother's friend?"

"What's going on? I just got outside."

Lin Yu asked the question that had been on his mind, "Also, what about the Xincheng team member...?"

Mayumi was silent for a moment, then said in a low voice, "It's the thirtieth day since the Great Cataclysm."

"?"

Why is it time travel in reverse?

Unaware of Lin Yu's expression, Mayumi thought of her brother, straining to lift her face as if trying to force back the tears welling up. Her voice was slightly hoarse, yet filled with pride: "My brother... he's everyone's hero! He's always been fighting so hard!"

Lin Yu fell silent.

Hero?
He then explained his unusual physical condition: "My current situation is somewhat special, and I can't explain the specific reasons. Simply put, I can't come into contact with anything from the outside world, and the outside world can't affect me either."

Mayumi nodded as if she understood, probably taking it as some kind of superpower or a special phenomenon after a catastrophe.

She stood up, brushed the dust off her clothes, and said, "It's not safe here. Come with me, I'll take you to our shelter."

The shelter was converted from a relatively intact underground parking lot, with a hidden entrance.

Upon entering the shelter, he found it dimly lit and the air heavy. He saw many elderly people, women, and children huddled in various corners, most of them looking tired and anxious.

At that moment, a figure emerged from the depths of the shelter.

"Mayumi, you're back."

She was a young woman who looked to be about twenty-four or twenty-five years old. She had a beautiful face and a calm yet resilient air about her. Her voice had a unique charm. "Sister Maya."

Mayumi quickly went to greet him, then pointed to Lin Yu and briefly told him about his situation and how she knew Shinjo.

Maya nodded slightly, then looked at Lin Yu, her expression suddenly becoming somewhat strange: "Your clothes..."

Lin Yu looked down, because he had just transmigrated and was still a little confused.

"What's wrong with this?"

Maya's expression became even stranger. She pointed to the singer's picture on Lin Yu's T-shirt, then pointed to herself: "Don't you recognize me? It's me printed on this."

"what?"

The scene fell into a strange and indescribable atmosphere.

Lin Yu then realized that the posters that had covered the walls of the room were actually of her.

What Master Kong beef noodles? The actual product doesn't match the picture at all!

Seeing his seemingly genuine demeanor, Maya fell silent, then smiled helplessly: "Looks like he's in the same situation as me."

As night fell, a few dim oil lamps were lit inside the shelter.

After a simple dinner, people did not disperse immediately.

Maya sat on a relatively clean stone step and began to hum softly.

Her singing voice had a wonderful charm, ethereal and far-reaching. Although Lin Yu couldn't understand what language she was singing in, he could feel the comforting power contained in her voice.

The surrounding noise gradually subsided, and people listened quietly, their fear and unease seemingly dispelled by the song.

However, Lin Yu could hear that her voice was noticeably hoarse and tired.

Mayumi quietly moved closer to him and whispered, "These past few days, especially the first few days after the disaster, everyone was so scared they couldn't sleep. Only listening to Maya's songs could make everyone feel a little more at ease, but..."

Her tone was full of heartache, "I'm also trying to find some medicine to soothe her throat, or some cooling pills, so that at least she can feel a little better."

Lin Yu nodded. Just then, a commotion suddenly broke out at the entrance of the shelter.

Immediately afterwards, a strong light shone in from outside, illuminating the dimly lit shelter.

"what happened?"

"It's bright outside!"

People gasped and rushed toward the entrance, and Lin Yu ran out with Mayumi and Maya.

Across from the shelter, the abandoned office building that was originally pitch black was now brightly lit, its huge glass curtain wall reflecting dazzling light, as if it had instantly returned to the bustling metropolis before the disaster.

In such a post-apocalyptic wasteland, the sudden appearance of such a symbol of civilization left many people stunned.

Then, the suppressed sobs that had been building up for so long began to rise one after another.

"They're back...they're all back..."

"It's light! Our city is lit up again!"

People murmured to themselves, weeping with joy.

Mayumi's expression suddenly changed: "Buhou."

She immediately rushed toward the building.

Maya followed suit, and before long, the light suddenly went out, plunging the building into darkness once again.

Mayumi and Maya brought out a little boy, who looked to be about ten years old.

Mayumi grabbed the little boy's ear and roared into it, "Chiki, what are you doing? Don't you know how dangerous this is? What if we attract a monster? If you get into danger, how am I supposed to explain this to Captain Megumi?"

Chiki, with her neck stiff and a defiant expression, argued, "Everyone is afraid of the dark. I wanted to bring light to everyone, and I finally did it! Were those smiles on everyone's faces just now fake? Mayumi-neechan, you smiled too, didn't you?"

He paused, his eyes hardening: "I believe that as long as there is enough light, we can illuminate the whole world and dispel all darkness! Even if we have to live underground in the future, we won't have to be afraid of the dark anymore. Once we develop more powerful weapons, we'll launch a counterattack and drive those hateful monsters out!"

Lin Yu fell silent for a moment.

The little guy's words were full of innocence, even a bit childish, but he truly brought light.

Seriously, why are all the kids in the gym? It makes me, an adult, feel like I'm a complete failure.

The thought that this little guy was already a hacking genius while he himself couldn't even connect a wire made Lin Yu suddenly break out in a cold sweat.
