Chapter 4 Report
Chapter 4 Report
The patrol vehicle stopped outside the Holy Court's headquarters—the Temple of Ember. The group exited the platform and arrived at the gate of the Temple of Ember.
Two Holy Court knights in heavy armor stood at the entrance. When they saw the group approaching, one of them stepped forward.
"Please show me your pass."
Elena stepped forward and showed her pass. The knight glanced at the heretics bound behind him and shook his head. "The quality of heretics is getting worse and worse."
Elena smiled and said, "It's just a small test for the prospective saintess, perfect."
The guards said nothing more and let them in.
The Temple of Embers was very large, but Elena, as a mentor, had been there many times and knew the way well. She quickly led everyone to the square in front of the Court of Law.
There are already quite a few teams of teachers like Elena here, mentoring students.
Including Celia's team, there are a total of five teams.
Upon seeing their arrival, one of the group's instructors greeted them, "Elena, you've finally arrived! Why were you so slow?"
"The place we went to was quite far away, so it took us a while to get back."
"I see. These heretics are hiding themselves more and more deeply."
"..."
While the teacher was speaking, Ross noticed that Celia would occasionally glance longingly at the other squads... and the puppets, or rather, the golems, beside her.
I initially thought she just didn't want to bear the consequences of making a wish, but now it seems she really wants a magic puppet.
Ross didn't know what was so good about this thing. He thought it would be better to get a few pets in the wild, which could level up with their owners and would be more convenient.
"I'm sorry to have kept you waiting, children. I am Vasily, the presiding priest of the court. May God protect you."
The group emerged from the Court of Justice. After introducing himself, the white-bearded old man at the head clapped his hands and said, "Thank you all for your escort along the way. Leave these heretics to the Knights of Judgment. Please have a few candidates for saintess come forward."
Five girls stepped out from their respective groups, and Celia was one of them.
Apart from Celia, the other girls were not wearing the black robes issued by the Holy Court; instead, they were all dressed in beautiful gowns or dresses.
“Children, tell me, how did you capture these heretics? Doris went back first, you go first.”
A girl named Doris, dressed in a Gothic-style dress, held her head high like a proud little peacock as she approached Vasily.
"Good afternoon, Grandpa Vasily."
Vasily stroked his beard and smiled broadly. "Good afternoon, Doris. Let's begin the report."
"Alright, based on the clues, I successfully located the heretical stronghold for this mission, confirming it to be the stronghold of one of the twelve heretics—the Deep Sea Aid Society… This operation successfully captured one sorcerer, five ordinary heretics, and seized a magic puppet!"
Doris was very pleased with herself. She controlled the puppet to perform a knightly salute, showing everyone the battle marks that covered her puppet.
These are all proof of the trials.
"A fantastic achievement, but it was too risky. You've only been enrolled for a month and have just stepped onto the path to godhood. Be careful not to get injured. Next..."
Celia was last in line. As she listened to the reports from the other candidates, she sensed that Ross was also watching. She thought to herself, "The trial of heretics is the responsibility of the Tribunal. Our school only assists the Knights of Justice in arresting heretics. We do not have the power to try them. This operation is a trial for the candidates to become saintesses. I... am also a candidate saintesse."
She had assumed that Ross would not dare to show himself once he entered the temple, but to her surprise, he was not only still there, but was also openly observing her without any fear.
"It's a bit different from the various messy temple sects I know. I'm asking you, besides the Holy Court, are there any other sects that believe in a true god? For example, the Temple of Light, the Temple of War, are they still around?"
"No, after the Age of Calamity ended, the gods unified all the temples and beliefs into one, called the Holy Court. They no longer worshipped any single god. Except for a few temples that were still named after gods, the rest were converted into churches of the Holy Court." As a prospective saintess, Celia was very familiar with these things.
She felt a little uneasy while explaining, as if she were aiding the enemy...
But if what Ross said before was true, and he was labeled an evil god because he lost the struggle, not because he was utterly wicked, then... well, that's alright. Celia didn't know if the Holy Court's history was accurate, or if Ross was right; given her status, she should believe the Holy Court's scriptures.
However, Ross's words are not entirely without merit.
After learning that Ross couldn't get out, Celia had a bold idea.
"Celia, it's your turn."
Vasily's voice came, and Celia snapped out of her daze, took two steps forward, and came to Vasily's side.
She could feel the scrutinizing gazes of the other four prospective saintesses behind her, but it didn't affect her report.
"Good afternoon, Grandpa Vasily. The heretical stronghold I destroyed has been confirmed to be a stronghold of the Abyss Cult. Unfortunately, the sorcerers there have already left. I only managed to capture 5 heretics and release 12 innocent civilians..."
“The Abyss Cult?” Vasily raised an eyebrow. “You’ve taken a greater risk than Doris. Fortunately, the sorcerers there have left, or your trial would have failed.”
The operation of capturing ordinary heretics was not particularly noteworthy in the Holy See, but the perpetrators were all rookies who had only been learning magic for a month. Vasily did not hold back his praise, giving them recognition and rewards after they finished reporting their work.
"The assessment results will be announced after your annual assessment is completed. This assessment is now concluded. Thank you for your hard work."
Afterwards, Celia was about to follow Elena to the Holy Court's dining hall when she saw Doris walking towards her.
"Good afternoon, Professor Elena. May I speak with Celia for a moment?"
Elena looked at Celia, who nodded. "Mentor Elena, I'll be there shortly."
"Okay, you guys chat. The cafeteria is at the far end over there, just turn left."
"Okay, thank you, Mentor Elena."
Celia followed Doris to a side.
"Miss Doris, is there anything I can help you with?"
“Celia, you see? I’ve captured a heretic sorcerer, while you, without a puppet, can only bully ordinary people. Without the Holy Word, you wouldn’t even be able to easily subdue these heretics.” Doris looked at the puppet that followed her and showed off the scars on the puppet’s body.
Celia did not speak.
Ross, however, thought to herself, "There are traces of corruption on this puppet of hers, and they're well hidden."
Doris continued, "What I said before still holds true. Someone like you, a prospective saint from a remote church, has no chance of becoming a saint. You might as well give up voluntarily..."
“Miss Doris, are you afraid I’ll defeat you and become the saintess?” Celia interrupted her. “Instead of worrying about me, you should worry about whether your puppet has been corrupted.”
The girl, Doris, chuckled and said, "Don't worry, I've already purified the puppet, so it won't be contaminated. As for you, I don't think you need to waste your time. If you want the best puppet, you can contact me anytime."
Celia tilted her head and stared at her.
The girl pouted and walked away, muttering to herself as she went, "Since I can't compete with others anyway, I might as well agree to my family's sponsorship. It's not like I can't become an archbishop."
She was clearly saying it on purpose for Celia to hear, and Celia heard every single word.
Celia didn't say anything, but puffed out her cheeks, lost in thought.
Seeing this, Ross raised an eyebrow.
I thought this girl really didn't have any needs.
If we have it, things will be much easier.
