Chapter 82 Call Me Uncle Snape
He rented an owl from Eastbourne and wrote a letter to Kingsley.
Without lingering, Severus immediately led old Lupin and Granger to the sea cliff called Beachy Point.
The area has been completely sealed off by the Muggle police, prohibiting any tourists from entering. Meanwhile, Aurors remain inside to handle the aftermath.
Among the Aurors, there are also wizards belonging to the Memory Erasure Group who are gathering Muggles who saw the Dark Mark last night and erasing their memories of that part of it.
After Severus and his two companions arrived, they did not choose to disturb the Aurors.
Many of these people were acquaintances who had recently fought or met Severus, and those sent to handle last night's incident were clearly Robaz's men.
Moreover, although Severus didn't understand how someone had broken free of the Imperius Curse, since he could inform the werewolves once or twice, he could definitely communicate with them many more times.
It would be unwise to deal with the entire Auror division right now.
They need to wait until Kingsley receives his letter and begins to address the problems within the Ministry of Magic before they can get help from the Aurors.
After avoiding the Aurors on the sea cliffs, the three began searching the surrounding area.
Of course, the search is mainly led by Lu Ping. Their only hope now is that Lu Ping might leave some decent clues that they can find.
However, it was Severus who ultimately discovered the valuable clues.
"Do you see that rock down there?"
He pointed to an inconspicuous rock below the sea cliff, being battered by the waves.
Upon hearing his words, Granger and old Lupin both looked over, only to vaguely see a smiling moon pattern on the reef, about the height of a person, carved from stone or something else.
The design itself is nothing special; it looks like a child's doodle, and even old Lupin couldn't figure out what it meant.
“It was left by Lupin,” Severus said with absolute certainty.
"How did you know?" Old Lupin couldn't help but ask.
“Lupin should have told you that he had three best friends during his school days.” Severus spoke calmly, but the ghost Snape inside him wished he could plug his ears after hearing this.
"The four of them were inseparable, forming a group called 'The Raiders,' and each of them gave themselves a code name. Lupin's code name was 'Moon Face.'"
Granger looked at Severus with curiosity.
Are you one of the four of them?
Upon hearing this, Severus couldn't help but laugh.
“If their leader and that big dog heard you say that, they would hate you to death, Robert.”
"Did I say something wrong?" Granger stroked his chin, and with his intelligence, he quickly realized, "You have a grudge against them?"
"Back when the moon was full and Lupin went outside the school to transform, they tried to lure me to his side so that Lupin could kill me."
Severus said casually.
Granger's eyes widened, and old Lupin stared at Severus in shock.
“Don’t be so surprised. That’s how young and naive people are, unable to distinguish between what’s important and what’s not,” Severus reassured them. “Later, their leader was afraid things would escalate, so he rescued me. While I was partly to blame, the main problem was with that black dog. Lupin was innocent; he knew nothing about it.” Severus then steered the conversation back to the main topic.
“Let’s go down. Lupin has chosen to leave a mark in this way, which means he really has no other choice. Not many people know the nickname ‘Moon Face’. He’s trying anything as a last resort.”
Seeing that he seemed genuinely not to hold a grudge about the past, Granger and old Lupin exchanged a glance, and with a sigh from old Lupin, he simply spoke.
“Even if Remus didn’t mean it, I still want to apologize to you on behalf of my son.”
Severus simply patted him on the shoulder.
"It's alright, Lyle. What's our relationship? We're all brothers. How could I hold a grudge against your son? Once Lupin is rescued, have him thank me, your Uncle Snape, in person. Is there any need to bring up the past?"
Old Lupin pointed at Severus, shook his head, and chuckled.
The three did not linger on the sea cliff. They soon found a path leading down the cliff and arrived at the shore.
From above, it's easy to find the rock with the pattern, but once you get down there, it's not so easy.
They searched around for most of the day and finally rediscovered the rock with the moon face painted on it around 10 a.m.
On the shore directly opposite that rock, there is a winding path blocked by cliff rocks, leading deep into the distance.
Just as Severus and his companions discovered the path, five wizards, mostly dressed in grey robes and with long beards, emerged from it!
This unexpected encounter left both sides stunned for a moment!
But the one who reacted instantly was Severus!
Without hesitation, he first cast an Ironclad Charm on Granger beside him, and then the tip of his wand lit up with a crimson light!
"Lyle! We'll take him alive! Don't worry about Robert! Let them shoot him! Killing these beasts isn't illegal!"
"All petrified!"
"Except your weapons!"
Even though the werewolf wizard was a beat slow to react, all five of them snapped out of their daze by the time Severus spoke!
Surprisingly, they weren't a complete mob; instead of running away, they drew their wands, ready to fight.
But the moment the red beam shot over, the first person fell!
Severus's spell was too fast!
Almost at the same time he began chanting the incantation, his wand reacted.
The werewolf at the front was the first to fall, followed by Old Lupin's disarming spell. However, the werewolves had already reacted by the time his spell was cast, and some of them fell to the side on the spot!
The werewolves then turned their attention to Granger, the only one not holding a wand but instead carrying a thick, long, unidentifiable object.
Clearly, he hadn't heard what Severus's initial shouts meant, nor had he found the real easy target.
Of the three, Granger is the only Muggle and also the most dangerous!
Granger's expression was unusually cold as he faced the werewolf charging at him with a wand in hand.
He held the gun barrel in one hand, disengaged the safety with the other, aimed at the werewolf's chest, placed his finger on the trigger, and finally pulled it without hesitation!
"boom!"
