Chapter 49 A Fake Novel Compiled by the Madman's Newspaper
Just as Severus had predicted.
After lunch, the supplementary magazine of "The Quibbler" began to exert its influence in the wizarding world.
The witch's letters arrived at the Lovegood family like snowflakes, and for the wizards who were always concerned about the poisoning of magic potions, the contents of the novel were simply horrifying!
Meanwhile, among the Aurors at the Ministry of Magic, this highly problematic novel was also discovered.
“Mr. Shakel? Mr. Shakel! This is the copy of ‘The Quibbler’ that you asked me to deliver this morning. Coincidentally, they also sent a magazine along with the newspaper today.”
In the Auror's office, a subordinate delivered the things that Kingsley had given him that morning.
Hearing that in addition to the newspaper, today's issue of "Singing the Discord" included an extra magazine, he showed no surprise whatsoever.
"Thank you." After expressing his gratitude, he insisted on stuffing the five dollars for the newspaper subscription into his subordinate's hand.
This newspaper, which most wizards consider trivial gossip and lacking authority, simply talks about the same old things.
The newspaper's front page embellished the story of the Aurors' pursuit of Severus, though Kingsley, as one of the parties involved, knew that most of it was nonsense.
He glanced at the newspaper briefly before turning his attention to the magazine.
This is clearly Severus's purpose in going to Lovegood yesterday!
He glanced at the magazine's title—"Blood Ties: Vampires and Muggles."
The title sounds more like a novel.
He opened the cover and began reading carefully from the first chapter.
To be honest, the layout and printing of this novel are very rough, and you can tell that the person who made it did so in a very rushed manner.
The book is about 12 words long. After Kingsley was publicly criticized by Scrimgeour, he had some free time and spent an afternoon in his office reading the novel until he finished it!
After closing the last page of the story, he finally understood why Severus didn't trust the Ministry of Magic and why he had run away with his men!
Kingsley jumped up from his chair with such a large movement that everyone else in the office looked up at him.
However, he ignored those stares, picked up the magazine, and strode out of the office to Scrinker's personal office!
He knocked hard on the door, and soon an Auror opened it from inside the office. The dozen or so Aurors who were having a meeting inside all turned to look at him.
Scrimgeour's face was as black as an enraged lion, and he stared intently at Kingsley.
"You'd better have made some major discovery, Shakel!"
Kingsley held up the novel in his hand.
“You have to see this! We were wrong from the start! There was no poisoning! That Muggle drank the Hellfire Potion willingly! The truth is right here! Right here!”
Upon hearing this, Scrimgeour's expression did not improve at all; he simply directed one of the Aurors beside him.
"Go and get that thing from his hand, let everyone see what's written inside that made him so agitated!"
The Auror handed the novel from Kingsley to Scrimgeour as instructed. Scrimgeour flipped through it quickly, and after finding the beginning to be nothing but boring ramblings about vampires, he skipped straight to the section about Muggles.
He finished reading that part in less than twenty minutes.
Scrimgeour didn't speak immediately, but instead checked the book's simple front and back covers again before asking a question.
“Shakel, can you tell me where you found this book?”
"The supplement to 'The Quibbler,' sir! Everyone who subscribed to this paper received it today!" Kingsley said solemnly.
“The Quibbler!” Scrimgeour raised his voice at this moment. “I remember this newspaper office; I think everyone sitting here should remember it!”
He frowned, his face dark and menacing, his eyes fixed on Kingsley as if he wanted to devour him.
"I'm sure everyone remembers the articles they published, and I can help you recall them now!"
"They swear that the Curved-Horned Snoring Beast, a magical creature generally considered to be fictional, exists! They claim that Babydi the Rabbit Witch from fairy tales like The Tales of Beedle the Bard, is still alive! They ridicule the Aurors of the Ministry of Magic as a bunch of wand-wielding, robe-wearing pigs! They firmly believe that wizards have ridden flying broomsticks to the moon!"
The office was eerily quiet when Scrimgeour suddenly slammed the book at Kingsley!
"Now you come to me with a newspaper full of nonsense, a bunch of lunatics! They've concocted a fairytale love story with their wildly imaginative minds! They've wasted half an hour of my time, and you're saying this is the truth of the case!"
"Are you crazy, or am I crazy, Shakel!"
Kingsley stood pale-faced in front of the door, letting the book hit him and fall to the ground.
Even though he was treated this way, he did not avoid Scrimgeour's gaze and said firmly.
"Sir, you can't analyze this book they've just published based solely on what the Quibbler newspaper has reported in the past! According to the evidence we obtained from the Muggle police, both the emotional state of the victim Muggle during that period and the garlic found in her room perfectly match the content of the story!"
“Hasn’t this information been published by the media?” Scrinker retorted loudly. “That crazy newspaper clearly fabricated this book based on the details we published!”
"But there are some details we haven't made public! The servants at the manor said they sometimes hear motorcycles being started at night, and that they once hired a mechanic who knew nothing! Only the Aurors involved in this know these things! But the book provides reasonable explanations for why these things happened!"
“Then you should go find those lunatics and ask them which loose-lipped Auror they got this information from! Instead of stopping me from continuing my investigation!” Scrimgeour’s patience had reached its limit. “Besides, even if the truth of the poisoning is as it is written in the book, how is Snape going to explain it! And why did that wicked bastard get involved in this! You should also let those lunatics make up a story!”
"Close the door! Throw him out!"
An Auror stood up and half-persuaded, half-pushed Kingsley, trying to get him to leave.
Kingsley spoke to Scrimgeour one last time before being pushed out the door.
"I will go find other people! There will definitely be someone who believes this! There will definitely be someone!"
"boom!"
The only response he received was the sound of the door being slammed shut.
