Chapter 1 Party
The evening sunlight filtered through the trees, dappling the lawn, and the water shimmered by the pool.
The villa is very large. It was a suburban guesthouse arranged privately by the homeroom teacher. It has two floors and a garden pool. It is said to be a place for relaxation, and it can also be regarded as a "farewell to youth" for the students who have just finished the college entrance examination.
Soft music played in the living room, and the aroma of oily snacks mixed with the slightly sticky scent of juice. A few classmates were playing UNO cards.
An Jing nestled in the corner of the sofa, watching the group of people running around the room, with someone occasionally falling down and yelling, all with a silly grin on their face.
She didn't laugh; she just felt a little stifled.
An Jing had good grades throughout her three years of high school. She didn't have many friends, and while she wasn't exactly aloof, she always felt a layer of mist separating her from everyone else. But she still came to the gathering—after all, the college entrance exam had just ended, and nobody wanted to have any regrets.
Her gaze swept across the living room, then over the balcony and the swimming pool, finally settling on the half-empty bottle of watermelon soda in her palm. The fizz had mostly dissipated, leaving only a cloyingly sweet taste.
She stood up, casually placed the bottle on the coffee table, and said lazily, "I'm going to the kitchen to get some juice. Want some?"
"I want the mango one!"
Do you have passion fruit flavor?
"An Jing, I want orange juice!"
"Do you have cola? I'd like a sip..."
Several people laughed and shouted, their tone relaxed as if they were playing a game.
An Jing nodded without saying anything more, and quietly walked towards the kitchen.
The kitchen is on the other side of the living room. To get there, you have to walk through a hallway. When the door is pushed open, it makes a creaking sound, typical of old wooden doors, as if it is reluctantly loosening its grip.
She opened the refrigerator door, and rows of cold drinks and juices were neatly arranged. A blast of cold air hit her face, making her shoulders shiver.
She took out several bottles of drinks with one hand and grabbed a freshly opened straw from the table with the other. She looked down at the labels and sorted the juices into different flavors on a tray.
Just as I was about to turn around, a barely audible "thud" came from the kitchen doorway.
She glanced to the side instinctively; the door was open, and the living room was still noisy, with nothing unusual.
Without thinking much of it, she took the juice and left the kitchen.
The moment she stepped back into the living room, something strange happened.
Behind the boy at the table in front of her, who was looking at his phone, the shadow on the floor suddenly deepened and lengthened, as if a second night had suddenly appeared.
The shadow moved.
Without a sound or warning, like a bubble rising on the surface of water, the dark shadow suddenly swelled and spun, and then a hand, a leg, and a face with cracks appeared from it.
With a crisp "clang," An Jing dropped the juice bottle, which rolled to the ground and splashed juice onto her feet.
No one noticed her movements. Before anyone could even get a clear look at the object, no one had a chance to see it clearly.
Someone pointed to the table in front of them, "What's that behind him?"
The boy instinctively turned his head, but only had time to see a long, sticky tongue suddenly stick out and coil around his waist like a snake.
"Ah—" He let out a bloodcurdling scream, but was instantly dragged into the mouth of the shadowy figure.
"Click—click—click".
The chewing sound was extremely slow and heavy, like bones and teeth being crushed.
Blood spurted out, drawing an arc in the air, staining the living room floor red and also splashing onto the UNO cards.
The air grew heavy at that moment, and everyone seemed frozen in place.
An Jing stared wide-eyed as the monster swallowed the boy whole.
My heartbeat seemed to slow down a bit, then quickly started pounding again, and my stomach churned, almost making me vomit.
She was the first to realize what had happened and reacted quickly, shouting to the others:
"run!"
"Run!!!"
Like a mechanism being activated, the tranquility of the villa was suddenly shattered.
Screams erupted everywhere; some people fell, others knocked over tables, and glasses shattered with a crash.
"What is that?!" "It ate people! It ate people!!"
"Help! Run!!!"
A girl ran crying toward the door, and a boy flipped over the sofa and staggered after her. The teacher tried to control the situation but was knocked to the ground.
The villa's curtains moved automatically without any wind, and swirling, black hole-like vortexes appeared in the air, like open pupils, silently watching everyone.
Someone opened the door, trying to escape.
"Don't open it—" An Jing was about to shout, but it was too late.
Because what she saw through the window was a scene that could only be described as hell.
The moment the door was pushed open, a strong stench of blood rushed out.
The blue sky and sunshine outside were gone, and the surface of the swimming pool turned bright red.
That is blood.
The entire swimming pool turned into a pool of blood, with churning water containing mutilated limbs and distorted faces. Some students were unrecognizable, with only an arm and a section of their neck remaining.
Right in the middle of the pool, a strange creature floated on the surface of the water, resembling both a whale and an octopus, its tentacles covered with human faces, each one twisted in a smile, and bubbles coming out of its mouth.
"Ah ah ah ah ah ah ah!!!"
The girls who rushed out collapsed on the spot, screaming until their throats were hoarse. Some ran away as fast as they could, while others stood there trembling and sobbing uncontrollably.
An Jing turned around instantly and ran desperately upstairs.
"Upstairs—hurry upstairs!!!" she shouted as she ran, her voice hoarse and unlike her own.
The floor beneath their feet seemed to be collapsing, and the vortex had already climbed to the foot of the stairs, swallowing all screams and cries for help.
"An Jing!"
An Jing ran to the corner of the stairs in one breath, but when she heard someone calling her, she suddenly stopped.
She turned around—and saw Huang Weiwei.
Her deskmate, the little girl who always loved to hunch over her desk and draw little figures, and who would sneak dried fruit during morning self-study.
Huang Weiwei was being dragged by the leg by a black monster towards the center of the living room. Her face was covered in tears, her eyes were filled with terror, and her hands were gripping the edge of the floor tightly, blood seeping from between her fingers.
"An Jing!! An Jing, save me—" she cried out her name, her voice trembling.
An Jing stood frozen in place, their eyes meeting.
How can we save her?
One second, two seconds.
A choked sob escaped her throat, and before she could move, the monster had already lifted her up—
Then, slowly, they put Huang Weiwei's head into its mouth.
"Click."
A soft sound, like the knocking of a nightmare.
An Jing stopped hesitating and ran forward as fast as she could, beads of sweat dripping from her forehead onto the ground.
Who can she save!
She can't even protect herself!
However, once you get upstairs, it's still hell.
A tentacle was mysteriously grabbing a classmate and stuffing him into its mouth, while the others scattered and fled.
It quickly finished eating and stared at An Jing, who had just run up to it.
Without hesitation, An Jing immediately ran in the opposite direction.
The sound of tentacles slapping the ground filled my ears, and behind me, I heard wet, panting breaths and a strong, fishy stench.
Tomorrow's the PK round! For those of you watching, please check back every day and don't ask questions, okay? Following along is really important!
