Chapter 10 Change of Mind

Chapter 10 Change of Mind
The smell of disinfectant in the corridor of Renji Hospital's inpatient department was so strong it was pungent.

As Jiang Guier walked by, she couldn't help but pinch her nose; she couldn't stand the smell.

Today, she was still carrying her pink LV bag and wearing a sleeveless dress from UR's latest season. The puffy skirt design neutralized the dullness of the gray tone and added some lively elements. She wore a pair of PUMA's new ballet-style sneakers, making her look fashionable and full of energy.

These shoes have recently become very popular on social media platforms such as Xiaohongshu. Although she is a food blogger, her vlog content tends to be lifestyle-oriented, so her advertisements cover everything from food and clothing to daily necessities. The shoes were samples sent by the brand. In order to complete the product display, Jiang Guier had prepared a shooting plan for an outdoor camping food vlog, but she has been too busy these days, which is why she hasn't been able to shoot it yet.

She didn't sleep well again last night; there were faint bluish spots under her eyes, and she looked somewhat haggard.

Last night, she was torn between worrying about her great-grandmother's condition and whether the letter could be repaired. She tossed and turned, unable to fall asleep, and finally opened Baidu to continue learning about the repair process.

Those technical terms were too confusing; they made her dizzy, so she eventually had to give up.

Upon entering the ward, she noticed a bunch of yellow daisies placed by the window, bathed in sunlight, radiating vitality. Upon closer inspection, she recognized them as the Ping Pong Chrysanthemum variety, their round and adorable blossoms adding to the charm.

No one knows who brought it, but whoever it was, it brought a touch of life to the ward.

Jiang Guier felt a pang of heartache looking at her great-grandmother's hands covered in tubes. Her great-grandmother was so thin that she was almost sinking into the white quilt. The bluish-purple veins on the back of her hands looked like the roots of an old tree, entwined under the transparent IV tubes, which was quite frightening.

That hand, which used to gently hold her hair, now rests quietly on the sheets.

“Your great-grandmother can eat today.” Caregiver Aunt Chen said softly as she adjusted the IV drip rate. “But her blood pressure has been unstable. The doctor came to check on her this morning and said she was doing quite well today. If you hadn’t come at the right time, she would have fallen asleep again.”

Jiang Guier moved a chair and gently placed it beside the bed, whispering:

"Grandma, I'm here."

Grasping her grandmother's withered fingers, Jiang Guier felt a lump in her throat.

"Grandma, don't worry, I will definitely bring the letter to you. There was a little accident yesterday, I'm sorry... Please wait a little longer. In a couple of days, or at the latest the day after tomorrow, I will definitely be able to see your letter. I will sit here and read it to you then." She spoke softly and gently, explaining what had happened yesterday.

"Don't worry, Xiao Jiang, I'm here. There won't be any problems. Look at you these past few days, you seem so tired and lack energy. Even though you're young, you still need to take care of your health."

The caregiver is an elderly woman who has been with the Jiang family for over 10 years. She is familiar with the family and knows everything about their affairs. It would be a lie to say that the two elders don't care and let Jiang Guier, their great-granddaughter, run around all the time.

There aren't many young people these days who are so filial, thinking about the elderly and willing to spend time with them; those who personally take care of the elderly are even rarer.

"Thank you, Auntie. You've gone to so much trouble these past few days."

“Look at what you’re saying. This is my job. Before your great-grandmother got sick, I could go out with her every day, tend to the flowers and plants, and listen to Kunqu Opera. Now that she’s sick, I’m not used to it. I just hope she can get better soon.”

"Yes, Grandma will be alright."

No sooner had the words left his mouth than the monitor suddenly emitted a sharp alarm.

As Jiang Guier frantically pressed the call button, the attending physician, who had rushed over, gently patted her shoulder from behind, saying, "Miss Jiang, please move aside."

"Oh, I'm sorry." Jiang Guier hurriedly stepped back in a panic.

"It's nothing serious, just keep an eye on things, family." After the treatment was finished, the attending physician gave a few simple instructions and then hurriedly left the ward to continue his rounds.

I witnessed two different rescues in two days.

Jiang Guier's mindset underwent a subtle change. "Aunt Chen, I have some things to attend to, so I'll leave Grandma here with you."

After leaving the hospital, Jiang Guier called Qian Xin and firmly canceled her afternoon meeting with the brand representatives, driving directly to Shen Huaizhou's studio. She circled around for a while before finally finding a spot to park, only to see the cashier rushing towards her at top speed. She silently took out her phone, scanned the QR code, and transferred 40 yuan before finally being able to leave.

As she approached the door, she realized she didn't have Shen Huaizhou's contact information. She hadn't even added him on WeChat yesterday. What was she going to do?

Why don't we ask Lin Wan?

But thinking back to yesterday when Lin Wan interrogated her about their relationship, and she honestly confessed, Lin Wan's creepy smile remained vivid in her memory. If she went to Lin Wan for Shen Huaizhou's contact information now, she would definitely be ridiculed. But if she didn't want to, it would be annoying to not be able to find him.

She hesitated before standing in front of the door where she had complained about her unique style yesterday, and tiptoed to look inside through the glass.

She was wondering if anyone was inside—

"Bang!"

The door is opened.

"Miss Jiang, is there anything I can help you with?" Shen Huaizhou stood in front of the half-open door, looking at him with a somewhat weary expression. He had just dozed off for a moment and got up to make a cup of tea and rest before continuing his work. Unexpectedly, when he stepped out of his work area, he saw Jiang Guier standing at the door, looking inside.

The glass in his studio is one-way glass; you can't see in from the outside, but you can see out clearly from the inside.

He could spot a beautiful young woman at a glance, winking and making faces at him; he had never known that a person's face could express so many emotions.

Lively and interesting.

"Ah, you're here." A sweet, surprised exclamation woke him up.

Shen Huaizhou's face was expressionless, cold and indifferent. He stepped aside, "Would you like to come in?"

“Of course!” Jiang Gui’er slipped through the half-open door, making way for Shen Huaizhou to enter. “I just happened to be passing by and thought I’d see if there was anything I could help you with.”

"Well, I don't think there's anything I can help you with. If you're really worried, you can just watch from the side." Shen Huaizhou didn't expose Jiang Guier for the few minutes she had been standing at the door.

"Really? Don't worry, I'll stay quiet and just watch." Jiang Guier held up two fingers: "I promise, I'll just watch."

Shen Huaizhou pointed to a rattan chair on the side, "Sit."

"Okay." Jiang Guier casually put her bag on the coffee table and sat down obediently.

"What to drink?"

After asking the question, Shen Huaizhou pointed somewhat awkwardly to the tea table in front of Jiang Guier, "You can choose your own tea."

Jiang Guier looked down and saw only one type of tea, wrapped in paper without any label or name. She shook her head, "No need, I don't drink tea, water is fine."

"Okay." Shen Huaizhou picked up the kettle in front of Jiang Guier, filled his own cup with water, and his eyelids slightly drooped. "Pour it yourself."

They didn't even give us a cup, we had to drink it from our hands?

Jiang Guier curled the corners of her lips into a polite smile, "You may continue."
