Chapter 27: If you find money, hand it over to the police.

Chapter 27: If you find money, hand it over to the police.
That night, police quickly located the other victims by using the evidence and clues Joe left at his home.

Five people in total.

Besides the fat man and the female celebrity, there is Robbie, who represents "greed," a drug dealer, who represents "sloth," and a prostitute, who represents "lust."

These three people, Robbie and the prostitute, are dead.

Robbie died relatively quickly, his throat was slit, but a lot of blood was drained; while the prostitute's death was rather shocking—a man wearing a toy with metal bayonets attached fucked her to death.

The drug dealer was still alive, but he had been tied to the bed and tortured by Joe for a year. His body was covered in festering sores, his tongue was cut off, and he had been injected with various drugs. He had gone insane.

The ways Joe designed to die were all filled with a perverse sense of ritual, corresponding to the seven deadly sins.

After seeing these death scenes, William was even more grateful that Luca had killed Joe. If such a deranged killer had escaped punishment, New York would have been plunged into endless nightmares.

"Damn it! That madman actually tried to attack me!"

Back at the police station, David, who had been busy all night, angrily complained to William, "He actually has my picture and labeled it 'Angry'? Wardfa? He actually thinks I have the original sin of anger!"

William: "."

Looking at the evidence bag containing the photos in David's hand, and then at David's angry expression, William felt that Joe's judgment in some aspects didn't seem to be too wrong.

David does have a bit of a temper.

After grumbling for a while, David gradually calmed down and asked curiously, "Somerset, who do you think killed Joe Doe? Who sent you that letter?"

William shook his head: "I don't know. We can't even find Doy, let alone the person who killed him?"

“I’m guessing it’s Greco,” David said. “That guy has an incredible nose for clues; he’s a master detective! He can easily find clues that we can’t, and he knows this case very well, I think.”

“Don’t speculate without evidence.” William looked at him. “Mills, even if he did it, what do you plan to do?”

David suddenly grinned. "Of course, we should buy him a bottle of the finest whiskey and treat him to dinner! He helped us catch the murderer. More importantly, the murderer is dead! I can only say well done!"

I simply cannot imagine the consequences if that damn son of a bitch of a lawyer uses mental illness to exonerate Doe! Fuck, Doe is targeting me, he even has photos of my wife and my home address! He has all my information! My privacy has been completely compromised!

David grew increasingly terrified as he thought about it. After witnessing those gruesome murder scenes, he couldn't imagine what would happen to him or his wife. He felt he would go insane.

Fortunately, the murderer is dead.

Thank goodness, thank you Luca the pigeon!
David's panicked expression sent a chill down William's spine. Although his own photos hadn't appeared in Doe's house, William felt like his privacy was about to be exposed.

It's not just the FBI; police departments do it too.

“Some media outlets pay the police to provide information, and even pay exorbitant prices to buy privacy,” William sighed. “The laws in this country emphasize privacy, but in reality, we have no privacy at all.”

David held his head and cursed a few more times.

With a sigh, William continued, "Mills, this case is over. I'm retiring in a few days."

David nodded. "It's a real shame. I haven't worked with you for very long, and your departure will make me very sad."

"I'm just retiring, not dying."

William smiled and said, "As someone who's been there, let me give you some advice: don't act impulsively, and stay rational."

"I remember."

"Also, don't offend people easily, or you'll end up like Roberts."

“Roberts?” David was taken aback. The honest policeman who returned the lost money was now being ostracized by the entire police department. No one was willing to partner with him, and no one was willing to lend a helping hand.

That guy will probably never get promoted.

David sighed softly. He felt that Roberts was a person with a strong sense of justice and shouldn't have ended up like this.

Ricky Roberts was well aware of his situation, and during one mission when no police came to his aid, he realized just how dire his predicament was.

So he almost gave up on being a police officer.

He is currently receiving a small police salary while preparing for the bar exam, planning to resign and become a lawyer after passing the exam.

There is no place to stay here.

Three days later, a man claiming to be a senior official from the DEA in Washington contacted him.

"The world's greatest city has now become a filthy, chaotic sewer!"

A high-ranking official who had traveled all the way from Washington looked at the skyscrapers of New York and exclaimed, "Petty theft is everywhere, drug trafficking is rampant, and the air in this city is so filthy it's nauseating!"

The official turned to Richie and chuckled, "I heard Times Square has recently acquired a new nickname: 'Cowardly Square'?"

Richie neither confirmed nor denied it, saying, "That's the most apt description I've ever heard."

The official sighed, "What a pity, you were loyal to your duty but ended up like this. The good news is, there are still some upright police officers like you in New York. Come work for me, this time the DEA in Washington isn't just going through the motions, they're serious!"

The official bluntly stated: "They sent me to New York to plan the crackdown on drug crimes. On our side, I need you to take the lead! You can bypass the police and report directly to me and the federal prosecutor!"

"You don't need to go to the police station anymore. You can decide your own office location, and choose your own partners and subordinates!"

"I only have one request: find someone who would hand over money found on the street to the police!"

Richie shook his head and chuckled.

Where can you find someone like that?

I found a million dollars, not 100 dollars!
On that same day, the New York Police Department, having compiled all the relevant evidence and closed the case, held a press conference to publicly respond to the religious murder case that had been making headlines for the past few days.

The case was declared closed, the perpetrator was dead, and relevant evidence was released.

Then, special praise was given to the veteran and young detective duo, David and William.

Although the two men felt that solving the case had little to do with them, they had no choice but to bite the bullet and go for it in order to cooperate with the authorities in creating a positive image for the police.

Times Square is bad enough, but the NYPD shouldn't be so cowardly.

At the press conference, William Sr. also officially announced his retirement due to advanced age.

This left many New Yorkers feeling disappointed, as the police department had lost a brilliant detective. After the press conference, William's superiors approached him and gave the veteran detective a tight hug. "Somerset! I knew you could do it! Hahaha! Our NYPD has finally delivered a perfect report card! This honor is thanks to you. Believe me, even after many years, people will never forget your contributions to New York!"

William was a little embarrassed. To be honest, he hadn't really done anything this time. The clues were provided by Luca, and Luca was the one who captured and killed the person. Luca had been in charge of everything from the beginning.

I feel a little unworthy of it.
He originally intended to explain to reporters at the press conference, but considering that it involved "murder," and that these methods were shady and that revealing them would harm Luca, he concealed Luca's relevant information.

But it's okay to talk about it privately now.

"Actually, you should thank a kind citizen more; he provided a lot of help to the police."

"A concerned citizen?" The superior immediately thought of the mafia. "Wait, you don't mean to say..."

"Yes, the Mafia helped us again."

"."

What a generous gift of crab! Have the Mafia really become peace ambassadors?!
The higher-ups are all dumbfounded. These damn mafia gangs just want to stick the label of cowardly coward firmly on the police station, don't they?

Or is it that your Mafia now wants to seize law enforcement power?

"The murderer was also him."

"Who knows? We have no proof."

"."

You assisted the New York Police Department in solving the major Seven Deadly Sins murder case, quelling the panic among New York City residents and maintaining peace in the city.

[Cell lifespan extended, physiological theoretical lifespan increased by 6 months]

[Current Skill Fragment: 67]

Luca was very pleased to receive the subsequent reward. He had made a profit by killing the murderer, and he could make another one later. He was so rich he was practically raking in the money.

It directly increases lifespan! This reward is a great thing!

I'm so happy, I've lived another six months.

I hope that when I'm old, I'll still be as handsome and dashing as I am now!
That evening, retired police officer William Somerset and rising star David Mills came to the Bronx to have dinner with Luca.

Luca brought Matilda along and introduced her to the two of them.

“This is my sister, Matilda. You should have met her before.”

“Officer Somerset, Officer Mills, you helped me when my father was murdered last time, and I haven’t had a chance to thank you yet.”

William and David both smiled kindly at the sight of the two siblings, one big and one small.

They naturally knew Matilda, but they hadn't expected that these two people, who weren't related by blood, would have such a good relationship.

William even suspected that Stan's death was related to Luca. If Luca killed Stan's group of narcotics officers to avenge Matilda, it would seem plausible.

But that doesn't matter anymore. Stan is clearly not a normal cop, and William doesn't want to get involved in his feud with the mob.

Moreover, he is now retired.

The four of them enjoyed a pleasant dinner together.

Because of the Seven Deadly Sins case, David's impression of Luca improved significantly. He even felt that Luca had saved his and his wife's lives from being killed by Joe.

But he couldn't say that outright; he could only warmly suggest that Luca could come to him for help if he ever encountered any trouble in the future.

He affectionately called him "Luca" and "Dove" instead of Greco.

[Bond: Friends]

Luca glanced at the panel and found that his bond with David had gone directly from following him to becoming mere friends.

This is good progress.

Although David is impulsive and irritable, it also shows that he is straightforward and doesn't have many tricks up his sleeve.

Luca likes people like that.

With the bond level met, David can now learn his skills.

[Would you like to spend 50 skill fragments to exchange for "Sin of Wrath"?]

【whether】

Yes!
[Redeem successful, skill added]

[Sin of Wrath: The higher your rage, the stronger you become in combat, increasing your combat power by up to 20%]

[Remaining Skill Fragments: 17]

New skill acquired! Unlocked "Berserker Luca" form!
And it doesn't turn green when it's angry.

The group ate and chatted, discussing everything from family and life to work.

Luca subtly inquired about Ricky Roberts and McLean, but the answer he received surprised him.

“Roberts is having a really tough time right now. Everyone’s given him the nickname ‘honesty,’ which you know isn’t a compliment, it’s mockery.” William sighed. There was nothing he could do to change the situation; the most he could do was not join in the commotion or kick someone when they were down.

Luca was slightly taken aback. This was no laughing matter! You guys had no idea how awesome the [Honest and Reliable] skill was!
That's an amazing skill!

However, judging from this, although Richie is being ostracized, he will probably soon gain the attention of some bigwigs because of his unprecedented act of "handing over to the state".

Once Richie joins the DEA and completes the formation of his narcotics squad, the war on drugs will officially begin.
