Beta stood in front of the mirror and began to remove her disguise.
First, wet the edges of the facial implant with makeup remover. Once the adhesive has softened, peel it off slowly, like tearing off a stubborn sticker, with a swishing sound. Next, use the handle of a comb to peel the wig along the hairline, revealing the light blonde hair that was previously hidden.
He leaned closer to the mirror, his fingertips lightly touching the corner of his eye, carefully removing the contact lenses that had altered his pupil color. His icy blue eyes regained their radiance. Finally, he immersed his hands in makeup remover, the special coating used to blur palm lines and fingerprints gradually dissolving.
Every step was clean and efficient. When the last trace of disguise was removed, the person reflected in the mirror was a completely different person.
His pale golden hair shimmered softly under the light, and his icy blue eyes were as clear as polar glaciers. Coupled with his sharp gaze that could pierce through one's heart, Beta's true appearance was finally fully restored.
Katalia leaned against the door frame, observing the angular face in the mirror: "You always say you're plain-looking, but this face is more than enough to play the male lead in a Hollywood blockbuster."
Beta bent down and scooped up a handful of water, the cool droplets sliding down his sharply defined jawline.
Through his wet bangs, he met Katalia's gaze in the mirror: "Oh? The male lead in an American blockbuster?"
Catalia gave a mischievous smile: "The male lead in an adult movie, the kind who's tied up and thrown on the ground. And there's a big black guy on the bed next to you, acting opposite your wife."
Beta raised an eyebrow dismissively: "It's a special skill, after all."
He shook his wet hair: "Whether it's on top or on the bottom, being the main character is a skill."
"You're crazy!" Katalia cursed irritably, turning and walking towards the living room. "Hurry up, I just checked, the earliest direct flight to New York is taking off in four hours."
Beta dried the water droplets on her face with a towel, then carefully applied iodine to the wound on her earlobe: "Aren't you leaving Paris?"
"I still have orders to process, why are you leaving?" Katalia's voice came from the room, her tone clearly annoyed: "Speaking of which, I get so angry! Do you know that because of this stunt, the difficulty of my orders has increased several times over? It's fucking ridiculous!"
Beta carefully examined the wound on her earlobe in the mirror to make sure that it wouldn't look strange even up close.
He turned and asked, "Do you have black hair dye?"
Katalia straightened up from in front of the wardrobe: "What are you going to do?"
“My entry record says I have black hair.” Beta pointed to her light blonde hair. “I have to keep that look the same when I leave the country. I don’t want to be questioned by customs over such a trivial detail and attract the attention of the security bureau.”
He paused for a moment: "After all, spending the rest of your life in prison is not a good choice."
"Are you suffering from paranoia?" Katalia squatted in front of the cabinet, rummaging through it, and said sarcastically without turning her head, "Who cares what color your hair is?"
Beta leaned against the doorframe: "This is the age of digital surveillance. Customs takes photos when you enter the country, and there are countless cameras overhead. Who knows if the security bureau will screen all the images of people entering the country for differences? Once you are flagged, they will track you down like hounds. In the end, it's not just a spanking; you'll be sent straight to jail."
Katalia finally pulled a box of hair dye from the bottom of the cabinet, turned around and threw it at him: "Fine, fine, Agent. Go dye your blond hair black."
Beta waved the hair dye in her hand: "Come help me."
Katalia, hands on hips: "Huh?"
"For the sake of standing up for you at the junior high graduation party," Beta said, "can you do me a favor?" Katalia immediately exploded, "I could beat them to a pulp even without you! What are you so smug about? Is it something to be proud of almost being sent to juvenile detention?!"
She got angrier and angrier as she spoke: "You idiot, even if you're going to take action, can't you wait until they're on their way home, find a dark alley, and break all three of their legs with a baseball bat!"
Beta calmly retorted, "Let me ask you, did it feel good to watch me pull down their pants and beat them up in front of the entire school?"
Catalia irritably swept her bangs back over her head and gritted her teeth, saying, "What sins did I commit in my past life to deserve serving a bastard like you?"
She snatched the hair dye and shoved the packaging box hard into Beta's nose: "Listen up, if you dare use this to blackmail me again..."
Beta didn't dodge or flinch, but instead revealed a confident smile: "Don't worry, I've helped you with a lot of things, from cheating on that exam in eighth grade to the high school graduation prom."
"Shut up!" Katalia interrupted him fiercely, her hand squeezing the hair dye box out of shape.
Katalia shoved Beta into a chair and viciously rubbed hair dye into his light blond hair, with such force that it looked like she was going to rub his scalp off.
At that moment, Beta's phone suddenly vibrated.
He took out his phone, and Katalia glanced at the message on the screen: "Are you alright? I saw the news. Do you need me to contact a hotel in mainland China to help you evacuate?"
"Girlfriend?" Kataria paused, her voice suddenly rising, "How can someone like you have a girlfriend?"
She tugged at Beta's hair forcefully: "Could she be one of those female painters who paints all day long? Or an artist who plays the piano and violin?"
Beta quickly replied, "Don't worry," then turned to Katalia and said, "If you can find an artist as a boyfriend, why can't I have a musician as a girlfriend?"
Katalia scoffed, her hands continuing to dye hair: "This world is truly magical; even a ruthless killer like you can find a partner."
Beta looked up at her and said, "Don't you also have an artist boyfriend? He draws these incredibly abstract things all day long. To be honest, I can't understand them at all."
“Who needs you to understand?” Kataria vigorously combed his hair. “It’s enough that I can appreciate it.”
“Ha! Artists need to eat too, right? Who would buy his paintings if no one understands them?” Beta had barely finished speaking when he saw Katalia hold up a comb covered in hair dye to his lips: “If you say another word, I’ll shove this thing in your mouth.”
Beta immediately shut up.
After a half-minute silence, Katalia suddenly spoke up: "When will you let me meet your girlfriend?"
Beta glanced at her: "Why?"
"To be fair," she said matter-of-factly, "you've already met my boyfriend."
"That's because you almost gave yourself away in front of him, and you had to ask me to act out the scene at the last minute, okay?" As soon as Beta finished speaking, the comb was mercilessly poked at his mouth. He turned his head in time, but the hair dye still got on his lips.
