Chapter 52 The Zhang Family
Chapter 52 Going Home (15)
Kai looked back and saw that Ding had finished looting the body and was about to walk towards the car. Kai said, "Yu Yu, the agent isn't hard to deal with. We can take the national highway and don't need to accompany him on his adventures in the off-signal zone. Didn't you notice? His purpose in going into the off-signal zone is exploration; he's not too concerned about the main mission."
Kai: "I think he's using us as a minefield. If the five of us are together and something happens, he'll most likely be the last one to die. Compared to him, we're just cannon fodder."
Before Kai could say anything more, a flash of cold light appeared ahead. He and Chu Yu, in the passenger seat, were drawn by the sunlight and looked in the direction it was pointing. They saw a flying axe spinning towards them, smashing through the windshield and striking Ri Tian's burly chest. The axe severed several ribs, embedding them in his chest.
Everyone instinctively looked up ahead, but the cracked lines on the windshield obstructed their view.
Chu Yu's alarm bells rang. She pressed the seatbelt with her left hand and slid out of her seat. The next second, a flying axe smashed through the window and struck the passenger seat.
Chu Yu shouted, "Ding Shi, Ding Shi!"
Upon hearing the shouts, Ding Shi ran over, pistol in hand. He approached the passenger seat, glanced inside, and slowly moved forward, gripping the gun with both hands. Ahead lay a 200-meter-long cement road nestled between two hills, with drainage ditches on either side and dense woods along the edges.
Both mountains are quite steep, which basically rules out the possibility that the murderer climbed into the mountains immediately after committing the crime. It is more likely that the murderer hid in the woods to the left and right of the drainage ditch.
Suddenly, a sound came from the right, and a dark figure rose rapidly, disappearing into the denser woods above. Ding Shi aimed, but the trees obscured his view, preventing him from firing. He only caught a glimpse of a tattered black cloak. The figure moved incredibly fast, traversing a 60-degree slope as if it were flat ground, almost defying the laws of physics. In just over ten seconds, he had completely vanished into the forest.
Ding Shi slowly approached the place where the dark figure appeared and quickly discovered something. The dark figure was climbing up the mountain quickly using the vines hanging from above, rather than climbing up the mountain with its bare hands.
Ding Shi stepped back. By this time, Ri Tian had already been lifted out of the driver's seat. Several people surrounded Ri Tian, who was bleeding profusely. Chu Yu knelt on one knee beside Ri Tian, with a medical kit placed at her feet.
Chu Yu calmly said, "At Ding Shi, the dagger."
Ding Shi drew his dagger and flicked it, turning it 180 degrees. He gripped the blade and handed the hilt to Chu Yu. Chu Yu took the dagger, cut open Ri Tian's clothes, and said, "Water."
Water poured onto Ritian's chest, and fresh blood immediately gushed out. Chuyu concluded, "It's not fatal for now, but we can't save him."
Chu Yu added, "I studied medicine for four years." This was also the main reason why she wasn't frightened by the female dwarf last night.
Mumu asked, "How can we save them?"
Chu Yu said, "Take him to the hospital. Although the axe didn't hit any vital organs, it was very destructive, leaving deep surgical wounds and multiple broken ribs. The only solution is to remove the axe and stitch up the wounds. For the rest of the journey, Ritian will have to lie down and won't be able to move around."
In short, Ritian is useless, yet he can't die, making him a burden to the team.
Given Ritian's size, he couldn't fit in the back seat; he'd have to lie sideways on the footrest. The rest of the journey would be very painful for Ritian; his wounds would likely become infected and fester, and the pain from the trauma would torment him indefinitely. If Ritian were petite, he might be manageable, but he's a large man, and even two men would struggle to move him safely. A mishap could cause bone fragments to fall into his chest cavity, potentially piercing his heart, lungs, and blood vessels.
Chu Yu pondered for a moment and then ordered, "Ding Shi, take charge of guard duty. Mu Mu, give me a hand. Kai Ge, do you think you can remove one of the seats and open up the trunk and back seat?"
Chu Yu opened a medical kit; it was fully equipped. Chu Yu said to Ri Tian, who was enduring the pain, "You don't want to die, do you?"
Ritian nodded.
Chu Yu said, "I need to pull out the throwing axe now and stitch up the wound. It will be very painful."
Ritian nodded, and Mumu stuffed a roll of gauze into Ritian's mouth. Ritian bit down hard, and Chuyu grabbed the throwing axe with one hand and pulled hard, causing the axe and blood to spray out together.
The novice healer, Chuyu, did not dodge. Her face was covered in blood, but she remained calm and stuck her head out, saying, "Wipe it off."
Mumu used gauze to wipe Chuyu's bloodied face, and Chuyu began to sew. Ritian was fortunate not to see the process; Mumu watched from the side, her eyes twitching. No wonder Chuyu changed careers; with stitching skills like that, even livestock farms wouldn't dare hire her.
Ding Shi, who was in charge of guarding the area, said, "Fog is forming." It was 11 a.m. the next day, and theoretically, fog shouldn't be forming at this time.
Ding Shi reported again: "The concentration isn't very high, and visibility hasn't been greatly affected." This is bad. Guns have a long range, while throwing axes have a short distance. The higher the fog concentration, the more dangerous it is for their group. If they don't leave Blackwater Ditch Road before sunset, the consequences will be unimaginable.
Ten minutes later, Kai removed the left rear seat and said, "I'll make a simple stretcher." He figured he could make one using the seat leather and wooden sticks.
Twenty minutes later, Chu Yu looked at the C-shaped stitches on her wound and breathed a sigh of relief. It was finally stitched up; removing the stitches was out of the question. Once she left the dungeon, the system could heal all of her injuries.
Ding Shi and Kai Ge worked together to lift the unconscious Ri Tian and place him on a stretcher. They then shoved Ri Tian into the trunk, a rather difficult process, but they managed to get him in. In the end, Ri Tian's legs were bent, his lower body was in the trunk, and his head was directly against the driver's seat.
Ritian woke up and his first words caused everyone to go crazy: "I need to pee."
Moving it again would be too much work, so as Ritian's best friend, Kai asked the two girls to leave and took a water bottle.
After finishing everything, it was already 12:30 PM. Everyone ate something and drank some water, and the car continued its journey. The windshield had been removed, and the early autumn mountain wind carried a chilling, eerie feeling, making everyone feel cold all over.
After successfully navigating the winding mountain road to the summit, the car entered a canyon terrain. On both sides were lush green mountains, and in the middle was a road with many twists and turns. The Fish Team also arrived at the first abandoned village on the Blackwater Gully Road.
