Chapter 30: A Tragedy Caused by Silver Coins

Chapter 30 A Tragedy Caused by Ten Taels of Silver (Please continue reading)
"Wow, Li Wushou, so much food?"

Chen Gou'er's joyful shouts echoed throughout the Three Immortals Pavilion.

Just as the moon rose, Li Wushou finally finished buying food and returned home.

As usual, they served incense, and the three of them sat around the square table to eat breakfast.

Unlike yesterday, Li Wushou and the old beggar were somewhat silent today, keeping their heads down and stuffing their mouths with food.

Chen Gou'er watched with growing impatience, his mouth agape and wide open, joining the fray.

The food was similar to yesterday's, and it was all gone before the end of Hai hour (9-11 PM).

Chen Gou'er lay on the bed, rubbing his stomach, and complained to the contented old beggar and Li Wushou.

Why are you eating so fast? I was planning to eat all night!

Li Wushou and the old beggar exchanged a glance, both feeling somewhat guilty.

Yesterday, Li Wushou had already spent all ten taels of silver. This afternoon, when Li Wushou went out, the old beggar happened to kick away a clod of dirt in the corner of the wall without leaving a trace.

There used to be a rat hole under the clod of earth, but after living there for two days, the rats found that Chen Gou'er was always taking away their stored food, so they moved away.

It wasn't moved far; it was moved into the old beggar's stomach, which was nearby.

From then on, Chen Gou'er often hid things inside, such as chestnuts, peanuts, and the ten taels of silver he had just received.

The old beggar kicked the money by chance, and strangely enough, it flew directly into Li Wushou's arms. It can only be said to be fate.

The old beggar always said that it's impossible for humans to overcome fate!
Li Wushou and Chen Gou'er once asked him, "How did you know?"

The old beggar would always boast that he had tried it!

Li Wushou didn't want to try, at least not now, so he took the money and left.

"Wouldn't it be better to finish eating early and go to sleep?"

The old beggar picked at his yellow teeth and casually gave a vague answer.

"I ate a lot tonight, and my butt is so itchy. I feel like my eyes are about to get wet again. Time flies!"

Chen Gou'er suddenly rolled over, lay face down on the bed, naked, and basked in the moonlight. His five eyes glared at Li Wushou, then four of them started darting around.

"Hurry up and get it done. Tomorrow Li Wushou will become the High Priest, and we'll be moving to the main city. Once we're settled in, we can hand over the keys and leave."

The old beggar rubbed his feet, the soles of which were itchy. He swallowed about a hundred half-dead, bloodshot eyes, and the eyes under his feet looked like they were about to ripen.

Hearing this, Chen Gou'er became happy.

"That's right, Li Wushou became the High Priest, he gets twenty taels of silver a month, split among the three of us, so I get ten taels a month, haha, that's enough to eat a lot!"

"Twenty taels of silver, divided among three people, you will only get six taels."

"Six taels it is!"

Faced with the old beggar's correction, Chen Gou'er did not argue. He was bad at math, but he knew in his heart that six taels plus the ten taels he had saved was a lot of money!
In contrast, Li Wushou was in a much worse situation; he had already spent all ten taels of silver on food yesterday.

Thinking of this, Chen Gou'er covered his mouth and couldn't help but laugh out loud.

Li Wushou rolled over, not wanting to get involved in the topic, afraid that his secret would be exposed and he wouldn't have a peaceful night.

"Huh? Li Wushou, didn't you spend all your money yesterday? Where did you get the money to buy food today? Did the City God give you money in advance?"

quiet!
silence!

Even the talkative old beggar has fallen silent!
Li Wushou was so angry that his liver ached. He closed his eyes, unwilling to face reality.

Chen Gou'er got a reply after a while, and got out of bed in confusion.

Li Wushou was facing the wall as if he had fallen asleep, while the old beggar had his eyes closed, his face trembling uncontrollably.

Looking around, an ominous premonition gripped Chen Gou'er, and he jumped off the bed and walked towards the corner.

Just as he was about to lift the clod of earth, he suddenly heard the old beggar let out a surprised cry.

Shh! Don't move!

Chen Gou'er was startled. The old beggar sat up from the bed with a serious expression, carried Chen Gou'er back to bed, and asked nervously:
"Old man, what's wrong?" The old beggar shook his head solemnly and said slowly:
"I need to pee!"

"."

His witty banter only delayed his death. When it came to money and food, Chen Gou'er was surprisingly clever.

Just past midnight, Chen Gou'er cautiously walked to the corner of the wall, lifted a clod of earth, and groped around for a while.

Panic, shock, disbelief, anger.
In just a moment, Chen Gou'er brought the art of face-changing to its ultimate expression.

True heartbreak isn't about making a scene!
He slowly turned around, his sharp canine teeth gleaming in the moonlight. Looking at the two people on the bed, he pondered who to bite to death first.

Nobody will survive!
Shh! Don't move!

Just then, the old beggar gave a timely reminder, and Chen Gou'er turned his head and gave the old beggar a disdainful look.

"Still trying to fool me, Dog Master?"

Li Wushou also sat up from the bed and grabbed Chen Gou'er, who was about to scream and rush over.

"Hi~!"

A sharp pain shot through his palm as Chen Gou'er bit Li Wushou's hand. Li Wushou picked Chen Gou'er up and looked out the window.

"Something's not right outside, stop biting!"

Chen Gou'er refused to budge, but his eyes kept glancing out the window.

A group of people had appeared in front of the gate outside the courtyard.

Four sedan chair bearers, dressed in white with red painted faces, slowly brought a white sedan chair to a stop outside the courtyard of the Three Immortals Pavilion.

Chen Gou'er finally realized something was wrong and slowly loosened his grip, but the anger on his face did not diminish in the slightest.

The old beggar covered his buttocks, secretly relieved that he hadn't been bitten.

Then he stuck his head out the window and looked gratefully out of the courtyard, wanting to see who the kind person was who had saved him and Li Wushou from danger in the middle of the night.

Outside the courtyard, the sedan curtain was slightly lifted, and a delicate figure, as beautiful as a white lotus, stepped out of the sedan. Her face was covered by a veil, so her appearance could not be seen, but her eyes were very beautiful, like crescent moons!
Looking up at the words "Sanxianguan" written above the entrance, the pretty figure covered her mouth in speechless disbelief.

He thought to himself that Wushou was quite interesting, but it was a pity that he had offended Lord Zhu. Tonight, he could only capture his soul and take it back.

However, having heard that Li Wushou is about to be appointed as a high priest after consuming Qi, I should be more cautious.

Thinking this, the woman took out a pawn ticket from her bosom. It was the very ticket that Li Wushou had signed at Wusheng Pawnshop, with his fingerprint still on it.

A sedan chair carrier beside him landed as if floating in front of the gate of the Three Immortals Pavilion and dug up a handful of yellow soil.

Another sedan chair carrier took the pawn ticket from the woman's hand, put a pinch of yellow soil into it, then folded it into a triangular bag and handed it back to the woman.

Then the four sedan chair carriers fell over with the wind and turned into pieces of paper, which were stacked together.

The woman kept murmuring incantations, and the paper scraps rolled up together, turning into a white pole that stood in front of the door.

A flash of white light appeared from the cuff, and a banner flew out and hung on the white pole.

The banners fluttered in the wind, and the two characters "无生" (meaning "no birth") shone brightly.

She lit a stick of incense, took a light sniff, and inhaled the fragrance into her chest before slowly exhaling it from her mouth.

He tossed the triangular bag into the smoke, and the wispy smoke caught it perfectly, hanging it on the white banner.

The woman smiled sweetly, her voice like silver bells, and called out towards the Three Immortals Pavilion:

"Li Wushou, open the door!"
