Chapter 72: The Murderer's Face Was Not Seen
Lu Zhishen and Su Miaoyi drove directly to the funeral home.

"You're here?" Kang Ting saw the two of them.

Lu Zhishen said, "Team Leader Kang."

Kang Ting glanced at him and nodded, much like an elder checking on his younger relative to see if they were doing well and had lost weight. Then he looked at Su Miaoyi and said politely, "Thank you for coming so late."

“It’s all for the case, it’s what I should do,” Su Miaoyi said.

Contin led them to the dissection room.

The forensic pathologist was conducting an autopsy, so Kang Ting first explained the case to them.

"The sketch was sent back to the police station for matching, and the results came back quickly," Kang Ting said. "Shao Dong, male, thirty-five years old, a local of Jiangcheng."

“After we found the person, we also found three addresses, but the police went there and found that no one had lived there for a long time, and the furniture was covered with dust covers.”

"The only job I can find is that he works as a real estate salesman and that he used to pay social insurance and housing fund contributions, but that was ten years ago. I don't know what he's doing now; I haven't been able to find out."

"We contacted his parents, but they didn't know much, except that Shao Dong had made a lot of money and bought them a house in Jiangcheng. One of the houses we found was bought for them. So it's a bit difficult to track his whereabouts."

"And then?" Su Miaoyi asked.

“Just then, a woman came to report the crime,” Kang Ting said. “She said she was being held captive, and the person who was holding her captive was Shao Dong.”

Su Miaoyi immediately asked, "The deceased Xu Shuxuan's wife?"

Kang Ting nodded.

Lu Zhishen listened from the side.

“Her name is Sheng Ningxuan, and she was a college classmate of Xu Shuxuan and Shao Dong,” Kang Ting said. “She said that a little over a month ago, Shao Dong suddenly asked Xu Shuxuan to go out for a get-together. She didn’t think much of it. But that night, Xu Shuxuan didn’t go home. It was Shao Dong who went to her house, drugged her, and took her away.”

“She has been locked up in a house for more than a month. At first, Shao Dong was there every day, cooking for her, talking to her, and giving her gifts. Later, Shao Dong suddenly stopped going, and she has survived on the snacks and water in the room until now.”

“Sheng Ningxuan said that when Shao Dong was chatting with her, he mentioned that he had killed Xu Shuxuan. She also overheard some drug deals in his phone call. So after she escaped, she went to the police station to report the crime as soon as possible.”

"Didn't Shao Dong die at his home? Which home?" Su Miaoyi asked.

There are three addresses that can be found, and one of them is where Sheng Ningxuan is being held.

These are four different places.

Is there another place?
“It was Sheng Ningxuan who provided the place,” Kang Ting said. “I asked her if she knew any other places Shao Dong lived. She said that Shao Dong had mentioned a villa to her before, saying that after a while, when she had figured things out, he would take her to live in the villa. The body was found in the villa.”

People say a cunning rabbit has three burrows, and it's true!
“When we arrived, Shao Dong was sitting on the sofa in the living room,” Kang Ting said. “We don’t have heating here this time of year, but the villa has air conditioning on. In two weeks, the body would have already decomposed.”

"Cause of death?" Su Miaoyi asked.

“He slit his throat with a knife, lost too much blood, and died from cerebral hypoxia,” Kang Ting said. “The location and direction of the throat slit, as well as the dagger on his right hand, are consistent with suicide.”

"The dagger should have been in his hand, but it fell onto the sofa as the body decomposed."

“You said it didn’t seem like he committed suicide,” Su Miaoyi said.

Kang Ting nodded and stroked his stubble: "Although the body is decomposed, the forensic doctor said that there are traces of a struggle on the body. There are also signs of restoration after the fight at the scene, as well as signs of cleaning."

“A fake suicide,” Lu Zhishen said.

“The scene has been cleaned up, and no useful footprints or fingerprints were found,” Kang Ting said.

After a moment of silence, Su Miaoyi asked, "Where is Shao Dong's phone?"

“We didn’t find anything on his phone,” Kang Ting said. “This is also a very important point of suspicion. Sheng Ningxuan said she heard him mention drug deals on the phone, but we checked all the contacts on his phone and only found a few former classmates, a few former colleagues, parents, and relatives. There was no call in the call log at the time that Sheng Ningxuan mentioned.”

"You suspect someone deleted things from his phone?" Su Miaoyi asked.

“If we just take the phone, it's unlikely to be a staged suicide. We have no choice but to leave the phone behind,” Lu Zhishen said.

"Not bad. It's recovering the contents of the phone, but I don't know if it will be successful," Kang Ting said.

Su Miaoyi fell silent again.

If the other party is technically skilled and deletes the content completely, it will be very difficult to recover the contents of the phone.

She asked, "Have you checked with Fengjiang Club?"

“No.” Kang Ting frowned.

His face turned grim whenever Fengjiang Club was mentioned.

"If we make a breakthrough here, we won't go over there yet," Kang Ting said. "If it's related to that place, the trail might go cold if we go there."

Su Miaoyi and Lu Zhishen exchanged a glance. It seemed that the Fengjiang Group was far more complex than they had imagined.

I waited outside the dissection room for a while.

After the forensic autopsy was completed, Su Miaoyi went in to examine the body.

However, the murderer who killed Shao Dong was not seen.

She could only see a little bit of the scene through the wound on her neck.

She was grabbed by the hair and thrown onto the sofa. Just as she was about to stab backward with a dagger in her right hand, her right hand was grabbed by the person behind her.

Then the person behind him grabbed his hand and slit his throat with a dagger.

That's why the wound looks like a suicide.

The murderer was always behind her; she couldn't see him at all through Shao Dong's perspective.

This only confirms that Shao Dong did not commit suicide.

It was past midnight when I got back to the police station from the funeral home.

He followed Kang Ting into the police station.

"Why are you here again?"

Su Miaoyi turned her head at the sound and saw Song Yucheng.

“Watch your words,” Kang Ting said. “She’s an advisor I invited.”

Song Yucheng looked at Su Miaoyi and then at Kang Ting: "Captain Kang, is she going to be an advisor?"

Kangting glared at him.

Song Yucheng immediately became more obedient, but still muttered, "Can women solve cases? Women only hold us back."

Lu Zhishen frowned, about to speak.

Su Miaoyi then spoke up: "Oh my, seeing you really makes up for the regret of never having met an old feudal and stubborn person."

Song Yucheng stared at her.

Su Miaoyi took two steps forward: "Women can't solve cases? Did you find Shao Dong?"

Song Yucheng frowned.

Su Miaoyi chuckled: "Do I need to elevate the discussion further?"

If we escalate the issue, then it will escalate to the Jiangcheng City Public Security Bureau.

"Alright," Kang Ting said, "Go on with your work."

Song Yucheng didn't say anything more and left.

Kang Ting said, "He has a knot in his heart, please forgive him."

What is Lu Zhishen about to say?

Su Miaoyi spoke first once again.

Lu Zhishen felt choked by the words he hadn't spoken.

"His inner conflict is related to me?" Su Miaoyi's tone was not harsh, but rather like a casual question, even somewhat gentle.

She knew it very well.

She was recommended by Director Meng of Jinghai. Although she doesn't represent the Jinghai Municipal Bureau, any mistakes or words she makes will be attributed to Jinghai.

This case is like a collaboration between the two sides.

We can't let others bully us, nor can we let the situation become embarrassing.

Meanwhile, Lu Zhishen...

His parents' affairs would inevitably involve dealing with the Jiangcheng City Public Security Bureau in the future, and she didn't want him to stand up for her and get involved in such matters.

“I will make him apologize,” Contin said.

"It's nothing serious, Captain Kang, you're too kind," Su Miaoyi said politely.
