Chapter 72 Past Memories

She shouldn't have hesitated to give way to Bai Qi; she should have just killed that lowly beastman.

She was decisive her whole life, but she stumbled only with him, thinking that such a lowly orc couldn't cause any trouble.

Who would have thought that he would have the audacity to harm her child again and again.

……

The orcs stayed in the ice cave for a while. After confirming that Bai Li and Ya Ke were alright, Bai Pei decided to take them back.

"Once I capture Lian Xun, I will send an orc to inform you."

Bai Pei gave Chao Sheng some advice, then meaningfully pulled Chao Sheng up, her eyes filled with gratitude, "Sheng Sheng, thank you so much this time."

"This is what I should do," Chao Sheng said softly and gently. "We are a family, Mother."

"Good, good, good!" Bai Pei said three times with emotion. She looked at Bai Ni, who was yawning but still insisted on seeing her off, and couldn't help but smile. "A Ni, you have indeed found a good wife."

Bai Ni's consciousness was already mostly overwhelmed by drowsiness, but upon hearing the praise, he replied without hesitation, "Of course."

"Sheng Sheng is the wife I chose myself, so naturally she is the best in the entire ocean."

"Ha!" Bai Pei chuckled, surprised that her most troublesome child's marriage was the least worrisome of hers. "You know that's good. You'd better treat Sheng Sheng well from now on."

"Okay!" Bai Ni replied absentmindedly, even though he had always been very good to Sheng Sheng.

Bai Li, standing to the side, darkened her eyes slightly and said in a low voice, "Mother, let's go first."

"Alright."

"Then let's go first."

……

After a busy day, Chao Sheng lay wearily on her seashell bed, enjoying the fragrant aroma, her heart at peace.

It wasn't just Bai Ni who wanted to sleep; she wanted to sleep too.

My eyes slowly closed, and my consciousness gradually faded.

She stepped into a white mist, and the long-lost land beneath her feet.

"Strange girl!"

"That ugly monster with a headscarf!"

The little girl, her face covered by a black headscarf, was crying sadly.

The teacher lied to her, saying that the outside world was no fun at all.

"Stop talking, be good!"

"Grandma has some candy here."

The little girl tasted the sweet lollipop in her mouth for the first time.

Later, the girl grew up a bit.

The girl went to find her teacher, but was swindled out of all her money on the way.

It wasn't even enough to cover the travel expenses along the way.

An old man stopped his carriage and asked, "Where are you going, young lady? I can give you a ride."

The girl gave her address.

The old man, in a kind and simple accent, told her to get in the car, "Let's go, it's on our way."

When they arrived at their destination, the girl asked the old man to wait for her while she went to ask the teacher for money.

When she returned, the old man had already left.

She followed the tire tracks back and found that the old man was going back, even though it wasn't on his way.

Later, the teacher who adopted her died.

The priestess wanted to use her power to help others, and she devoted herself to saving people, even after revealing her differences.

At first, those people were very grateful to her.

But later they gradually became afraid of her; they were afraid to go to the unusual parts of her.

Until a wizard said she was a harmful demon, that she was now deceiving you, and that she would soon reveal her true nature.

You will all die then.

It was a lie so clumsy it couldn't be more clumsy, yet they all believed it.

They tricked her into standing on a magic circle carefully designed by a wizard, and she watched in despair as the haystack beneath her feet burst into flames.

They called her a demon.

The flames scorched her skin, burning away her short life.

"Huff..." Chao Sheng woke up from her dream, beads of sweat as big as beans falling down her face, her eyes filled with desolation.

"What did you dream about?"

"So scared?"

Upon hearing this alluring voice, Chao Sheng looked around at the surrounding black mist and realized that she had entered Zhu Che's space.

"nothing."

Chao Sheng lowered her eyes, looking at the intact skin and flesh on her hands, her fingers curling slightly.

Why would I have this dream out of the blue?
"Ha!" Nagisa Tetsu sneered, "In a bad mood?"

"Hmm." Chao Sheng hummed in response. "By the way, I need Chunze Teng tomorrow."

I've calculated it, and the time is almost up.

"He's quite good at giving me orders."

Nagisa Tetsu was both angry and amused. He couldn't even get a kind word from him when he needed something.

"I'm in a really bad mood right now."

"Nagisa Tetsu."

The low, floating sound was as Chao Sheng sat curled up, hugging her tail, her long hair hanging down into the black mist behind her.

"I asked you, but you wouldn't tell me."

"I want to go back first," Chao Sheng said coldly.

Zhu Che's bewitching face turned cold, and the swirling black mist rose slightly, as if trying to keep the little mermaid from leaving.

But what came out of his mouth was, "Whatever."

A black vortex appeared, and Chaosheng returned to her seashell bed.

After tossing and turning in bed twice, still unable to fall asleep.

Chao Sheng suddenly got up and swam towards the shore.

The cold, pale moonlight shone on the layered surface of the sea. Chao Sheng sat quietly on the icy shore, her fishtail soaking in the cold water, her gaze indifferent and lost.

She seemed a little unsure of what to do.

A hole appeared in the deep blue sea, and Silver Floss emerged, swimming slowly toward Chaosheng.

White fluff floated on the water's surface, and a gentle voice, soft as water, rang out amidst the sound of the waves: "Want me to stay with you?"

Chao Sheng looked at Yin Xu in surprise, "Why are you here?"

"Seeing you come up, I followed you."

Yinxu braced herself on the shore with both arms, then turned around and sat down next to Chaosheng, still carrying the cold and damp scent of the deep sea.

The thoroughly wet downy hair dripped water onto the well-defined abdominal muscles.

The vast blue sky seemed to hold only the two of them.

Looking at the moon high in the sky, Chao Sheng casually chatted, "Do you know where the Black Filth came from?"

In the past, the oceans might have been polluted by humans.

But where does the pollution come from in this world that only has oceans?
"It seems to have existed for decades."

"I heard it from my parents."

"It's as if it appeared out of thin air."

"The first orc suddenly lost consciousness and started a riot. At the time, we thought he had angered the sea god."

"But then, as orcs died one after another, everyone realized that it wasn't that simple."

Yin Xu said softly, looking at Chao Sheng with tender eyes, "Why are you asking about this?"

“It’s just that…” Chao Sheng suddenly stretched out his hand and waved it at the moon, “I suddenly realized that I seem to be the nemesis of this filth.”

Through the gaps between her fingers, Chao Sheng looked at the split moon. "I always feel it's a coincidence."

"Perhaps, the sea goddess did not want to see her people suffer."

"That's why we sent you."

Yinxu stared intently at Chaosheng, her tone serious.

She gave him his current life.

Otherwise, he wouldn't be alive today.
